View Full Version : Which graphics chipsets do you currently use?

What with some new hardware recently coming out and folks debating whether and to what should they upgrade, I got kind of curious: what kind of graphics hardware do PSUers currently use?

Please note: this is not a preference poll, or which one is better poll. I'm not asking you which one is better. I am just curious what you currently have equipped.

My current gaming rig runs on an HD 5770, and the whole thing is right about at the timeframe when I am starting to look what I'm going to upgrade it to... but I kind of want to get my hands on the PS2 beta, to see how the hardware performs. If it's decent, I'd probably wait another 6-9 months for prices to stabilize a bit and just build a whole new rig rather than just upgrade the graphics.

Just ordered my GTX 670 that's going into my first rig.

Still using my MSI N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition and it works great. Never play anything below Ultra. :D

nVidia is the most popular brand. I except that won't change in the near future given ATI's current generation woes.

I bet Intel is going to continue to pick up market share, now that a marginally competent GPU is built right in.

Got a HD5770 myself. Thinking about upgrading for Planetside 2 for performance reasons but also cos I think this one will melt soon.. running 100 celsius when playing.

Overclocked it much or something else going on there?

Had two EVGA 7900GTXs in SLI, a Galaxy GeForce 250 GTS, and just ordered a EVGA GeForce 670 GTX with an optional upgrade to 680 GTX.

Not overclocked. It didnt run that hot before, so I cleaned the whole case and stuff, but it didnt do anything. I guess the thermal paste could use reapplying but I dont wanna do it cos I'm really noob with computers :D

Man up, if you can clean out the case without screwing anything up, you can reapply some thermal paste, too. And then you could probably overclock that thing to get the last few bits of juice out of it (although I haven't actually had to do that for any game I regularly play yet).

AMD 64 3500+ Winchester

The HD3850 was to replace a dead 7800GTX for as little money as possible.

I'm also rocking 2x512MB 333mhz DDR RAM, where each stick may or may not be by two different companies...

Still have my trusty HD 4870, one of the best ATI cards I've ever owned alongside the X1950 Pro. I'm considering a 7850 now that I have to upgrade my processor anyway for some OpenCL side projects I'm working on, 220 € seems like a pretty good deal.

I actually have a slowly growing amount of money that's now at...*checks*...£865. Waiting until beta to upgrade.

You are probably going to have a heart attack with your new rig at how fast it is.

No kidding. I intend on squashing an SSD into that budget too, so I fully expect to get whiplash.

I had two ATI 4870's but replaced them with an GTX 580 a few months ago. Never going to get an AMD card again. I fucking hate those drivers. Now I only need to change my old proceccor (E8400 @ 3.5) to a more recent one. Since obviously my old CPU is bottlenecking my GPU. Also planning to get an SSD, more ram, new motherboard (kinda mandatory since I want a newer CPU) etc.

Lol, that SSD is probably going to happen at the rate we're approaching beta.

GTX460 because I'm poor

460 is still a respectable card, albeit not the best but still respectable.

GTX460, can run all games maxed out thus far, and with pretty good performance. Everybody seems to want 60FPS minimum but I can play perfectly fine with 30, so eh. I'll upgrade if I have to.

if you want to play remotely competitive in a shooter youll need more then 30pfs

Well no, that's completely subjective... I regularly place top three in any competitive game. It just depends on what framerate you're used to.

Also, I meant 30FPS in graphics intensive games like BF3. Anything else is smooth as lubricated silk.

I personally prefer between 60 and 120 fps - anything below 60, and I see the rastering lines on my projector (which is primarily why I want to upgrade - I'd love to run PS2 at 120 FPS with VSync on).

ATi all the way
Because Eyefinity is just that good. (CyclesMcHurtz take note ;) )

If Nvidia would catch up and give the same features on 1 card i would consider them.

Was actually reading about that just now. I really like eyefinity, but seeing as how PS2 will support gpu-accelerated physx, I was doing a lot of research about how stable those "dedicated physix, non-nvidia primary" setups are, and then I came a cross that.

D'oh! Problem solved, buy. 680 (its about the same price as the dedicated card plus a good 7000 radeon anyway).

well to some extend it is subjective of course. but as you stated in your previous post, most people aim for +60fps. so there seems to be some objective benefit to it. most people i talked to agree with me that if you play at +60fps you'll do better.
i didnt mean to say that everyone playing at 30fps sucks. dont get me wrong :D
