sounds like they are doing hardware tests on their beta servers.... considering when tb was there they did not have flak up and running yet i am guessing this is the sign that they are moving into internal beta and plan to give out some beta keys at e3 with a working demo (for everyone at e3 to play) of the game.

most likely this is just hardware testing going on... but good lord i hope this means we will start having beta tests around the same time as e3...


not sure tho if they are confident they might release before e3 to get some tweaking going but i severely doubt they will...

Somehow I don't think it's quite that simple.
After watching TB's videos I don't really think the game is ready for beta yet.

Of course it is very early beta, where the first small wave of invites have been sent out. The next vid we see might have only have a hundred people playing. But this is how beta starts and like is says above "It has begun".

Well we can all agree it's coming along great. With hardware tests, an actual tweet about beta and the fact E3 is coming up I must say it is looking good!

As far as the game not being ready for beta... well, TB's test might have been on an older build... it is deffo older now than it was then :P and the problems they had with it then (at least what we saw) might have been easily fixed..

To me, this says either Beta for E3 to show off the full servers and make everyone who hasn't followed Planetside poop their pants in anticipation for it OR the announcement at E3 that beta invites are being sent out as they speak.

If someone is going to the show, they just need to let us know what the hair is looking like, that's the only way we'll know for sure.

Planetside 2 is by far the greatest thing since sliced bread :D

that sounds suspiciously like the friends and family beta is now live!

meaning every soe employee is now playing the game. as well every company associated with planetside 2 like pro7sat1 and the chinese something9 company. maybe some others as well.

so the next step will be ps1 players and pc gamer customers coming in!
yeehaa! that´s the best news since the ps2 announcement! we actually get to play really soon!

damn, the first day of real beta will be strange ;)
as everybody will hop into a plane right at the start and check out the terrain.
but some will already be on the hunt, shooting them down like pigeons ;)

I think that this is a clear sign that alpha is over and beta has begun...

Internal beta.

Internal beta does not equal closed beta. We may still be a little ways off from that.

If they want their E3 showing to be really impressive they'll need to get that beta server up and running.

Considering I only ever played Planetside 1 during that time they had the free accounts I won't be getting into the beta for many months. :(

Hmm, I wonder if it means Pro7 have built their beta environment (based in Europe) and simply did an exercise to prove it was working ....

alternatively Pro7 guys could have been playing on the SD beta server.

It seems pretty clear to me that the Beta hasn't started yet, guys. Instead, as Higby stated, the beta *server* is up and running. They've started firing up live hardware (instead of internal QA hardware) that will eventually be public-facing. This is probably in preparation for E3 -- whether or not there will be actual beta testers participating with the E3 crowd.

It's still an awesome step towards beta, but let's get real here and be clear -- it's painfully obvious no beta invites have been sent out yet. That will be an announcement with much fanfare. (not to be confused with Fan Faire, amirite?)

so for you non german speakers i will tell you what the twitter conversation on the OP is about ;)

the guy from pro7sat1 states that they are playing the ps2 beta already. and he adds that they had to stock up on anti passout medication (don´t know what riechsalz is called in english, its stuff you put under the nose of a passed out for a second to wake him) to wake up the guys who just couldn´t stand the awesomeness of this game and collapsed. and he added that this was no joke ;)

so either the pro7sat1 guys are the most evil teasers and trolls on earth or someone outside of soe is already playing the game. maybe it was just a short test session to check latency for players abroad, but it´s a major step.

It would make sense for them to be playing it, considering they will be hosting Europe's servers. Hopefully that means our turn will come soon.

I'm leaning more towards the idea that people playing beta will be the E3 content.

I've been through so many betas that at this point that I'm perfectly happy to wait. It's going to be fun trying to test things with everyone trying to murder me, but I'm in this for the long haul.

I mean, come on, it's not like the world is ending this year or anything... :shrug:

It would make sense, at least to me, to have a very closed beta before a more public one. I'm sure SOE will want to get a head start on bugs associated with having many players online, before the mad rush that will be the official beta start.

This is a big step. Because usually the whole beta phase starts when the game is feature complete. So now on to the bugs! And soon the closed beta!

That would be really awesome, and it might really happen. I am sure beta wont really "start" during E3 though... too many possibilities to fuck up. IF you fuck up, you dont want to the whole world to watch. So my bet is that Invites might go out, but beta starts definitely after E3,1 or 2 weeks if we are lucky.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for beta, and as for whether the game is ready for it-- Chances are a lot of problems can be fixed with people playing it as well.

As much as I would love for beta to start tonight, I seriously doubt that live beta action will be any part of E3. SOE doesn't even know if the servers can support 2,000 players yet (well, live players anyway. They could fill the server with 2,000 bots but from a network perspective it wouldn't be a valid test).

And given the network jerking issues we've seen in some of the videos lately, I think they are going to have to resolve some issues before they get even close to 2k players. They'll probably start by adding 100 or so at a time until there's a problem.

What I AM expecting from E3 is seeing the fully playable demo that they have mentioned (which seems to be the goal of their current sprint), and an announcement of closed beta starting (soon). Which in itself would be awesome news.
