I criticize jump pads and stuff but here's hoping you knock the hell of out BF3 for being so limited in scope. And it WILL happen, I can't promise it will happen in sales equivalent(since this is F2P) but it WILL happen in quality. When you release more info on squads and VOIP, I will have some REAL ammo to get interest over at Mordor.

To Matt and the PS2 team.

We care. We really do. I've had to just troll around for a month or two due to interweb/money issues, but I do still plan on being a big part of the community after launch.

Thank YOU for making these forums such a wonderful place to learn, develop, and prove that community interaction really DOES make a difference to those who are involved.

Not to get anyone in trouble over there... but SOE should really consider making that team you've got into a permanent fixture... kind of like Blizzard is to Activision. I think you've all got top notch talent, and it seems like you are all a close-knit team.

Consider this my direct suggestion to Smed. Don't break up the dream team. Ever.

Higs says thank you, but we are the thankful ones, you've given us life long experiences (as nerdy as that sounds) and from it we've networked out and made wonderful friends.

I think there was a period of about 5-ish years or so when I figured a sequel to Planetside would simply never happen.

The fact that it is in fact actually happening is amazing. I hope that I'll be able to attend Fan Faire or something else that the Planetside 2 Dev team would be at because you all deserve so many rounds of free drinks.

Having made my first character back in February 2004 it's been an awesome 8 years and I can't wait for it to continue on into Planetside 2.

I hope that (and know that) Matt and the dev team understand that all the times that we are being critical of PS2, it's only because we love Planetside and we want to see Planetside2 become the smashing success that it will become.

Thanks for the message.

No, the thanks goes to YOU and the devs for taking the time to make this game. It's obvious how much work you guys have put into this game... it looks incredible. Of course there are things that everybody whines about (myself included..) but we do it for the love of the game. I truly want this game to succeed and feel like the sequel/reimagining to the greatest FPS ever known. (Sure COD and BF3 have the numbers, but the content is lacking compared to PS ) Keep up the awesome work!

so what happens when Matt throws message straight to the PSU community???

that is a badge of honor. Everyone and their brother trying to log on and see whats happening... or else comcast went down again..

there is no greater sign of respect then downing a site in the mass stampede to see what your message is.

And as always I love you guys working on PS2.

And as you pointed out - the constructive feedback that usually comes from here. I think a lot of people forget or aren't in the know recently that we try to have constructive discussions so that at the very least you have a good idea how the community feels about it.

Can't wait to play this game with everyone!

Planetside 2 is a dream that I have had since Smed mentioned the possibility about 7 years ago. Nothing has replaced Planetside as the "next" game for me in that time. I was beginning to believe that nothing would ever live up to what Planetside is. Knowing that Planetside 2 is coming is one thing, but it's fantastic knowing that a dev team that I have the greatest confidence in is behind the scenes. Planetside's time is here once again and it is going to kick ass and take names.

Keep up the good work Higby and Co.

You are creating a product that is unique and daring. how? because you went and tried something new. You could have just made PS1 with an updated graphics engine, but NO you and all the others working on PS2 have decided to go ahead and try to make it even better.

When so many others just play it safe and stick with the same thing, you and the team have forsworn that route.

For that, I salute you.

Becuase damn does it take a pair of brass cojones to go and do something like that.

I just can't help but have a giant f#*&ing man crush on Matt Higby after seeing him make videos like these. Not only him but TRay and all the other developers who comes on PSU or make twitter posts responding to the community. Really there are a lot of things the Sony in general does that I do not like but then I see you PS2 devs doing there jobs and caring so much that I just can't help but love you guys.

Please carry on knowing that we stand behind you.

Maybe I've just been hanging around developers like DICE for too long, but I definitely get the whole "indie vibe" from the PS2 dev team. I have to constantly remind myself that SoE isn't an a small indie developer. The fact that you're constantly on reddit and PSU is amazing. Probably the best interaction I've seen between a developer and a community in a long time.

Damn, it's been too long since I've seen such a personal video coming from such a powerful developer team.

I'm not a supporter from the very beginning (PS1) and I don't consider myself to be, but that was still a very thoughtful video.

Keep up the good work, we're all here for you :)

It's moments like this that make me proud to be a part of this amazing community. :]

Exactly.

Thank you Devs!

The amount of community work that went on from the initial announcement until now has been truly special to be apart of. Being able to see the interaction between hardcore's and dev's was something i didn't think could really ever exist in the industry right now like it did here. It has been a real pleasure to be able to see honest people talking with us and not shoveling PR smoke up our asses all this time. It's nice to see Gamers talking to gamers, not Suits talking to Sheep.

If I'm to be honest. Seeing all of this has really given me a different perspective on an industry i had skepticism going into.

Once again, thank you to everyone that is working hard on this project and thank you to all the people on PSU that have been around this whole time debating and discussing. It's been a blast to read everything!

Ive been here since the day PS launched, playing infil, because its the only role i could even get 4 fps on at the time my trash computer. i remember the days of massive sanctuary raids, teh 8 hour long battles for a single tower, the days when iw as in school, i would fight till 4 am, get a few hours asleep, go to school come home, and my outfit, my soldires, still fought the cont, still fighting the battles i was apart of hours before.

and i will be here until the servers close forever, if ever it happens. i wont leave until im forced, so thankyou matt, and the PS team, thank you for nearly a decade now, of memories, friends, enjoyment. sometimes in vent, or ts, i run into another PS vet, and like war vets of real life, we share hours recalling memerable battles, deeds of soldires, and great loss, shareing our war stories from across diffrent sides.

thank you guys for what you gave to us, for what you continue to bring us. thank you for staying true to what you created, as so many developers lsoe sight of what they were, your keeping true to what youve always been, and im so happy, that you maintain this relationship with us, a rare thing now adays, to not just have PR messages, but just the ones for us.

I want to chime in with the chorus and thanking the unbelievable Planetside 2 dev team. I truely feel blessed that my soon to be favorite game of all time is being made by the greatest dev team a Planetside fan could ever dream of.

I'd also like to take this chance to piggyback on Mr. Higby's message and thank this entire community, not just the great people that run this site (and you are great people), but to every single person on these forums. Thank you for the entertaining discussions. We obviously do not all agree on everything except for our love for this game. And that love bonds us all together. In a couple of weeks planetside2 will be all over the press.
A lot of new folks will pop on the forums, the guys at SOE will have a lot of job to do and interviews to clarify what planetide 2 is all about (something actually not that easy since there is no similar experience anywhere).
I really liked in a recent interview where Higby said that they listen the community because listening anyone else that never played planetside would be bad feedback-wise.
We might face such people in the next days.
I feel that I (or better - we) owe them something, to continue spreading the word and interacting with the new fanbase with the same respect and patience that they had with us,even when we where clueless.

If the game is really going mainstream(wich i really hope it does) i don't want we veterans be bitchy with newbies, but to embrace and empower the community feeling we always appreciated (on the forums and on the battlefield).

So... He hasn't been reading my ideas and thinking they were any good???

I did have 2 good ideas and 2 bad ideas, mostly because they were completely absurd, adding modern day gun and soldier skins, and adding a Christmas Santa attack. No thanks you Matt.

You and the team are doing what many many people in my outfit have wanted for years and what's more it looks like you're nailing it!

I think you have been brave (also sensible) to have engaged with the community in the way you have. Every time you put something out these you have run the risk of it being trashed and I'm sure if something is criticised it must hurt a bit.

I know I have criticised one or two things and it's human nature for more words to be generated of a few things perceived as negative rather than the larger positive things.

All in all I think what you're doing is great and long may it continue into post launch. :)

keep posting ideas! they ARE reading them! it´s just that the veterans who really have mmofps experience will debate over the ideas and the devs will always check, if the vets think it would work or not. just because the chances are high, that the vets know of the flaws and problems of mmofps games. nobody else ever played a real mmofps, so the vets oppinions are very valuable to the devs. but this doesn´t mean ideas from "outsiders" aren´t welcome or not even read by the devs!

keep posting ideas! they ARE reading them! it´s just that the veterans who really have mmofps experience will debate over the ideas and the devs will always check, if the vets think it would work or not. just because the chances are high, that the vets know of the flaws and problems of mmofps games. nobody else ever played a real mmofps, so the vets oppinions are very valuable to the devs. but this doesn´t mean ideas from "outsiders" aren´t welcome or not even read by the devs!
just get over it, if some stupid idea is ripped apart by us old ps1 bastards ;)

Yeah, you guys arn't really nice when it comes to bad ideas.... :p

Yeah pretty much what people have said already, no need for you to say thank you to us. We are the ones that are soooooo thankful to you. You are creating the 2nd instalment of a game that has inspired all of us old and new. What you guys are doing and the work ethic you guys have is amazing, this interaction with the community is not the "norm" and I personally appreciate it very much.

So again..
Thank you.

Now bring on BETA!

I have to say, I really haven't seen this level of interaction between Devs and players before. Liking it! I'm an old PS vet from back at release, left a few years ago. The love that this game is receiving from the Devs, SOE and the fanbase is truly amazing. Chomping at the bit...

We're always critical here and rightfully so, but that just means we care! <3 Really appreciate it the Devs look through things and regardless of a change is made, postponed to check other things first or not made at all, there's at least the time taken to listen and the consideration. That's really nice and I've hardly ever seen that from any dev team anywhere.

All in all it's a hell of an undertaking to design. And we're not even gotten to the fine tuning of balancing yet. :p

Thanks again to Matt and the others at SOE on the planetside 2 project team:)
Your dedication to incorporation of the Ideas of veterans and newbies alike has been a refreshing experience I haven't been able to find anywhere. I can only hope that one of the three accounts I registered will make it to beta.
Thanks again for your support.

No problems, Matt! :D

Any chance you would ebay your hair after you cut it once you let us in the beta?

You would make a hefty bonus to your salary from it :D

(No, not serious, although no doubt someone would buy it :D)

Thanks Matt and to the development team for all their hard work.

I say again - never actually played planetside 1 but the sequel is looking to be the kind of game I have always wanted to play/get made. Been following its development since day 1.

Hoping it will play as good as it looks!

Thank you SOE for being involved with us during the development of this game. It has been a refreshing experience. Random Planetside fans having direct communications with the development staff has been really amazing.

I have not been this excited for a video game since the original Planetside.

Well, that's a nice and unexpected touch! Really good to see a major (or any) developer get involved with its community and take time to talk about their title, release sneak previews, and even change some things when people have better ideas.

On another note, I had until now completely underestimated the size of Higby's hair. Poor guy must want beta to happen more than the rest of us put together!

When a group of people can switch, in an instant, from calling you a god to going on a rampage based on hints about changes in mechanics for a game they haven't played, I think passionate is the right word.
:p

Thanks for taking the time to make this video, Goldilocks ! Don't forget us and keep trolling once in a while when PS2 becomes famous !

What was said by Matt was definitely echoed by all of the Devs I talked to while I was in San Diego. They were all extremely excited to see us there and we saw PSU up on a bunch of screens in the office. A humbling experience for myself and Jenny to see how much they appreciate the community as much as we appreciate them.

planetside 2 has the dev team it deserves!

and thanks for this message, it means a lot to us, that you guys appreciate our input and love that much! and you didn´t even mention how nasty we sometimes are if we don´t like something ;)

sell your hair on ebay but save some locks for sweepstakes or competitions ;)
yes, we also like being creepy ;)

keep up the good work and the love and ps2 will be more than just an AAA title. 3 As are just the start...

i cannot even imagine the fun we will have in beta, fighting together with the devs! i hope at least for beta they will retain their obvious dev names and take part in a lot of battles. maybe even as the big iconic leaders, sending waves of their own men (us) to certain death!

That's totally awesome.

Over the past many many years I have had COUNTLESS 3 or 4 hour long conversations with my two buddies who I played with about a possible Planetside 2. We spent hours and hours pouring over ideas about how they could make it better, how it could look, just plain discussing how awesome a Planetside sequel would be. We ended every one of those conversations with a sad tone because we thought there was no way we would ever get that wish. I had accepted that Planetside was dead and would never return despite how incredible I knew a sequel could be.

I remember the day they announced Planetside 2 was being made and when they released the first early shots of the vangaurd and galaxy and a few other things. One of the best days of my life I was so excited!

Thanks for making the impossible dream come true Devs!
Keep it up!

As much as I don't like Infinity Ward either, I still think that if they learn a couple of things from Mr. Higby and his team, they would get the message on how to make A PROPER SEQUAL. This applies to all the developers,
*cough*DICE*cough*. They should all look at this video and see how real game developers work.

I finally got time to view Higby's message - I just want to say how excited I am for this game (stating the obvious), and extremely glad to see developer involvement that's practically unheard of before! I was exceptionally honored to have met Matt at PAX (and interview), it's not every day you meet one of your heroes and for that I am grateful to be apart of the PlanetSide Universe Family!

Beta is right around the corner - even though it's TBD we all know it's coming soon

*Fingers crossed for Higby's hair cut for E3!

can i just say, that when the dev team needs a pickme up, I'd bet you could post on the PSU forums, and one of us would be at the office door with a pack of 5-hours and nachos within an hour XD.

you guys are awesome. we care about the project and our dev team. and we love giving our comments and ideas when they're asked for. we're not just a fansite though, we're a loyal community. I have no problem saying that when i find out someone else is or was a planetside vet, i'm immediately positive towards that person.

keep interacting with the community, we'll keep supporting you guys. <3

Thanks Higby and thank you to the entire development team, along with the Planetside Universe staff.

I have to say that the only reason that I give you guys in the dev team so much of the benefit of the doubt in design decisions is because I have been so consistently blown away by all of your work.

I hope my fanboyism hasn't gotten the best of me and that I've still been able to add some constructive feedback now and then for you guys. I know that this community all has the best intentions for the games, even when we occasionally go at each others throats.

So again, thank you to the development team, thank you to Hamma and the PSU staff, and to echo Higby, thank you to the community for being so awesome. It's a lot of fun around here because of you all.

I can't wait to see how this thing grows into the future.

Having Higby is like making up for the PS1 Jackhammer nerfing for NC loyalists everywhere.

Now, has anyone ever wondered if the Devs EVER look at the official forums? I think they made a nest somewhere on PSU instead.

I rarely post on these forums but I visit here just about everyday for the past couple of months, but I just want to say I'm impressed by what Higby did with this video. I've never seen a developer have such an active relationship with fans of a game while it's still being developed, nor have I ever seen a developer take the time to make a nice 'thank you' video just for fans.

Thank you Higby, and the whole PS2 development team. Your relationship with the fans is much appreciated.

Fantastic Matt, it's been a pleasure watching with excitement every update, with thanks to PSU too for making it all easy and accessible in one place. I'm more of (to use the forum title you assigned to 'lurkers' in the PS1 forums) an 'infiltrator' with all this, but I wish sometimes I wasn't because you seem to be so in touch with the community that it would be rewarding to be a more active part of it.
All in all, keep it up! You guys are brilliant and I really can't wait!

Cheers for all the video blog updates, community messages an all around invested interest in the community of PLanetsides player/fanbase. I've rarely seen this amount of dedication to keeping the players on track with all things gamewise as well just socially. Big props to the Planetside team, I wish the original had this much devotion, but I understand the issues that kept it from breaking ground during it's day. I still loved the beta testing of PSU 1 an the retail for the years that followed. (former BR25, CR4 VS for XoO!)

Can't wait for the floodgates to open with PS2.

P.S. - expand the out of bounds, it will make a MASSIVE dynamic strategic asset to the games attraction.
