View Full Version : PS video I just made

Hey guys, long time lurker of the PSU boards here, only recently created an account. I've been addicted to Planetside since I first tried it in 2004, and have been going through withdrawals since the outfit I was with went to other games, to which I followed. Anyways, just wanted to post a video I put together by recording youtube video's of other peoples Planetside experiences and also using a bit of SOE footage. I'm sure if anyone was a part of the video's, you'll recognize it right away.

I made it for a couple reasons. Primary being that I am dieing with anticipation about Planetside 2 on the horizon. Another being an homage to the game, developers, and community behind it. And finally, to use as a tool to show people in my current SWTOR guild that this game is no joke. Some of them still can't wrap their heads around a few hundred people fighting over a base and not lagging. It's really only something us veterans understand.:)

Would love to hear feedback on it. I'm still learning the software though, so be gentle.

Excellent! I usually don't watch these things to the end, but I made an exception here. That was really good! Correctly paced and informative.

Well done sir!

Nice vid, it actually is starting to look like the original game.

Now all they need to do is slow down the TTK, remove the fog and those "you are out of bounds" messages and we should be good to go :)

welcome to the forums and great work on that video! must have been a long search to find all the best parts of ps1 videos and combine them to one with only the most epic moments! and good usage of the brandnew ps2 footage!

don´t like the music very much, but that´s just my taste ;)
some don ferone planetside music would perfect it ;)

i was hoping for some videos like that when the tb footage and the airbattle videos came out! nice work in finally making the first official low quality trailer obsolete!

want beta! want to see how epic it can get this time!

Excellent really well made, captures the essence of the first game very well.

... AND translates it to the new graphical awesomeness very good as well!
i used to show people some old ps1 videos and some screenshots of ps2 and would tell them to imagine the scale and feel of the ps1 video with the graphics of the ps2 screenshots. now i can just link to 1 video that does all of this for me ;)

Wow, that captured a lot of emotion of PS!

Just a bit of editing critique. To avoid the black outline in the youtube video, you should adjust your render size to about 1280x720, or 720x480 (preferably the higher res).

Around 4:13, when the song climaxes, I think the fades should be more snappy, instead of a slow fade.

Other then that, great job!

Oh, and this I think also had some great footage. Possibly usable. 40+ reavers FTW!

This video really pointed out to me how much aircav has dominated the PS2 gameplay footage we've seen, though. It's pretty obvious Higby's a Reaver nut. We need some gameplay videos from treadheads!

Ya, I wanted to use some footage from that, but for some reason FRAPS wouldn't record it when I went full screen.

And thanks for the feedback guys. I'll remember your comments when I go to make PS2 vids in the future.

I definitely want to use some Don F. music in future videos, here's hoping the PS1/2 soundtracks are one of the things you can buy in the store.:D

I absolutely loved it; that video brought back a lot of fond memories. I was trying to get my wife to watch it while I explained what was happening, but she just looked at me like I had a dick growing out of my forehead. Planetside is something that has to be experienced first hand, I guess. Loved the music choice too, by the way. Almost made me cry

Nice. I love the contrast of the old and the new. Not as much of a contrast considering how good your PS1 footage was.

As fondly as I remember the first game, I'm not sure I would put it as an advertisement for the new game in it's present state, but footage like this is perfect.

Seriously getting pumped for beta. Cool to see these vids are helping keep the devs pumped as well.

Actually, I can't take credit for that. Who ever made the original footage was responsible for that piece of genius. I wish I was that good.

Nicely done video ComerEste, actually restored some of my excitement for the game I've lost due to constant exposure. Enjoyed the music, tempo change synced with the transition. Would have liked more introductory text similar to the beginning explaining what was going on. That way some of the simpler questions in the comments could be headed off (original release date, explanation of what "couldn't be done", player counts, etc).

You sly bastards also don't need to worry about securing the rights to use songs when the fans make their own videos ;)

Keep pumping out the footage as you are able. That air combat video has provided some of the most amazing footage ever. Clearly it has inspired a lot of creativity for these fan made videos. The more awesome footage there is, the more diverse the fan videos get.
