Quick question, it may have been addressed already but I cant possibly read everything in these forums.
Will your Charecter/s be specific to a server?

Yes, the character you made is only for that empire. You will not be able to switch empire with that character.
For example, you got a battlerank 10 Vanu character. You will not be able to then suddenly switch to a battlerank 10 Terran character.
Instead, what you will have to do it make a completely new character from scratch at another empire. However, with the current build as it is, you will have to make a completely new account, because your account is only allowed to play for 1 empire, but that is good, because it makes you develop loyalty to your empire.

but the question was about servers, not factions.
and we donĀ“t have any confirmation yet, if characters are locked to a server or if you can take your char to another server if the first one is full.

I hope not, but it seems like they will be locked to a server like in the first game. which I think is ok, just not my first choice. I think that even with f2p, the addition of new continents will make it essential that servers get merged now and then and I would prefer the switching to be more fluid

I would prefer locked to a server

I would prefer to be able to log on to different servers with my character. Espeially if I am locked out of a good fights and there are no other good fights in the other continents.
My only worry about this is that it may affect team work and outfit unity since most of the outfit would be in one server and several of its members may be scattered around in other servers.

As far as I know, you can only have one character per server. If you want to play as another empire or a different character, you need to either delete that character, or create a new one on a different server. You can't have more than one character per server. Of course this is how it is right now, and it can change as the game comes closer to release.

...per account that is.
There is nothing preventing people from having multiple accounts so as to have multiple characters on a server, even characters on different empires.

Should be locked to server to prevent name issues

Should be locked to server to prevent name issues
This was brought up on an old thread. It's a double edged sword allowing people to take people's character names on different servers. Had a few people that wanted character names to be duplicated and just use IDs. Tons of ideas to solve character name issues.
Also this topic has been discussed to death so I won't say anything more. :D

Okay, stop with the rumors and whatever.
You can have at least 1 character per server. They said they may have more per server (on the same faction of course), or just lock it to 1 per server as the class system makes mutiple characters pretty much pointless anyway.
On one server, you can only play one faction. So if you make a Vanu on the Werner server, you cant create a NC or Tr on that server.
But you can play whatever faction you want on whatever other server.
Obviously you wont have 1 character for every server, as that would make it impossible for you to play the other two factions.

Characters will be server-specific because of naming issues. The real question is to play male or female...

What Basti said is correct.
Also if you want to play on other servers, or even have multiple characters on the same server and faction, unless you go crazy with the cash shop its best to put your alts each on their own account. There is offline training and they said you can only train 1 character at a time per account. So, if your alts are on another account they can train offline even while your online with your main.

If they aren't locked to a server it diminishes Outfits. The whole game turns into PUG Fest 2013.
Are ACCTS locked to one Server?
Any source on the 'one faction per acct'?
Don't see why I couldn't make a char of an opposing faction on another server. I have no intention of making multiple characters or accts, it just seems odd is all.

So, since the only 2 factions i would want to try are VS and TR, does that mean i would need 2 accounts or would i make 2 characters on 2 servers i wouldn't plan on playing on to see which is better then create my proper main on the actual server i will want to play on?

You would need 1 account. Create a TR character on one server and your VS on another server. Try them out and create your main character on another server. So to play all 3 factions with one account you need to use 3 servers.
Now if you have friends that play a different faction and want to play against them and with them over the course of a few years on the same server you either need to delete your character (which is infeasible because the time based skill system) or create multiple accounts. That's the direction Higby hinted at earlier. Since it's a F2P game you can create multiple accounts and they won't be monitoring that or punishing players for doing it. (Especially since one might buy things for each of the separate accounts to unlock things). Apparently having multiple accounts is what the developers are using as a disincentive to keep people from playing multiple factions on the same server. They believe that if they allow people to play multiple factions on the same server that people won't have any faction loyalty, but if you have the factions on different servers then this increases faction loyalty for that server. (You might have a different faction loyalty on a different server, but that's the idea).
Personally I generally think that if people are playing the game with one character as most casual players will be doing they'll form faction loyalty automatically. Planetside 1 showed us this since you could switch factions (with a timer) within the same account and even though players had multiple characters on the same server with different factions it never seemed to impact faction loyalty. In fact players most of the time just got bored and wanted to try the other play styles for a bit. Sadly whoever is deciding on the character/server locking system isn't thinking this through very hard or hasn't played Planetside 1.
So much for not saying anything.
