Lovely lighting effects on the brake lights and headlamps mind.

Camera footage is much better than no footage. Obviously some of the turret animations are wonky but atleast we got to see it in motion. Looks like another 3 seater to me. Music went quite well with it I must admit.
Great lighting effects, I love that they actually have a purpose besides aesthetics and they make a huge difference in 1st person.

This video is proof of looking at still images, out of context can never give you a real feel for what it will actually look like in game.
Let me be very unspecific here when i say that any design complaints that may have previously existed will all completely melt away the moment we see <insert weapon/armor/vehicle) in action.
The Prowler looks so good and the lighting is amazing!

I swear, TRay just emits mass amount of art director power. I don't think there has EVER been an MMO with an art director as classy as TRay. We drew the long straw with PS2, for sure!

looks awesome as always, love this engine and all the character that the three factions bring to the table. Bet being the art director for the planetside universe is one of the best gigs, curious whether the engine's power has created more gameplay mechanics for the players. I'd love to be able to turn my lights off to ambush someone with my prowler, would be funny if you could customize break lights to flash or get some side skirt lighting.
Oh man, I would love to be able to play music out of speakers on my vanguard/reaver. I remember something like that going on in Battlefield Vietnam waaaay back. T-Ray, Higby, someone... MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

Hahahahhahaa, leave it to the TR to steal some of the NC's duct tape and tape another machine gun to the machine gun.
Yo dawg, I heard you like machine-guns, so I put a machine-gun on yo machine gun so you could waste more bullets.

Good to see there's third person view.
Looks like it works just like in World of Tanks, where it's independent of turret or hull (in WoT - hold right click to change camera). That will make driving it and having good situational awareness easy for the driver/tank commander.
Now if only it wasn't a driver/gunner. :)
The headlights look very nice, as I understood it, you can turn them off to be more stealthy, I wonder if that would also turn of the breaking lights or those lights on the side of the tank?

(the worst being the music used at the end of the agn intro)
the prowler looks cool and its behaviour too!
but the machine gun on top of a machinegun looks a little stupid indeed ;)
so why are the machineguns stacked? to move independently? so it´s a 3 man tank again for tr?
if not, place them beside each other.
looks to fragile the way it is now.

Da hell? Why are you stealing that low tech TR thing if you could drive, no, HOVER in a high tech Vanu mag? :D
To prove Vanu superiority. We could fight and win with inferior primitive technology, we just don't normally choose to.
Sort of like how we deliberately gimp our own guns to be as weak as the NC and TR bullets. Lasher 2.0 was just an example of accidentally letting some of our technologies true power onto the battlefield ;)
Pretty cool to see the Prowler driving around. Something about the grainy footage made it feel that much more realistic (as if Forgelight needed much help there). I never had a huge problem with the Prowlers new design, but not it's just looking awesome to me. I can't wait to see some tank battles with all three of these MBT's.
I wonder how large the differences in speed/armor/firepower will be between this and the Vanguard. I know it's still probably being tweaked right now though.

There's just something about the headlights on the prowler. They match perfectly with the tank. I dunno. It just looks awesome.
It does look great but where the headlights splash onto the ground in front of the tank is a little too close to the tank given how far back the headlights are set into the top of the tank.
If the headlights were set directly on the front of the tank, it would make sense, but as they're set up on the top of the tank and pretty far back, something just doesn't look quite right about how the light hits the ground right in front of the tank.
That's my constructive criticism. Otherwise, I'm loving it! I wonder if we'll get the option to turn headlights off... for more clandestine operations. Tanks aren't really meant to be sneaky, but night ops could employ some useful strategies like a squad of soldiers in vehicles with the headlights shut off zooming through the night under the cover of darkness to strike on an enemy's unexpecting flank.

That said, any chance on having some fog/rally headlamp options as a side-grade?
The close up cone of light is nice enough but sometimes you want to blind someone with a few spotlights while you pick and remove the limb they need least (Deer in the headlights is more fun outside of knife-fight range).

Closer than I thought but the mag still has lights that are angled much at the ground a few meters infront (even if you ignore that there are 2 cars in the road pic, the licht is a lot less downward focussed).

It's alpha, it confirms nothing so don't jump to conclusions. They said 3rd person will be implemented but only for movement purposes (you won't be able to shoot) as far as I remember.

Right, but when they said 3rd person was only for spatial awareness, they said it was for aircraft only.
You can shoot, just no aiming reticule and I believe higby said the camera is intentionally kind of wonky/floaty to make it even harder to aim in 3pv.

Maybe T-Ray can confirm this or there are other theories from posters here.
Just watching that video again towards the end when the prowler is reversing and the scrub gets lit up like there is a reversing light being cast from the rear. Looks like the effect is from the red tail light but it doesnt glow any brighter.
Yes alpha etc, but is it meant to light up the rear when reversing similar to how it does on the front?

Is there a switch to turn off the headlights/taillights?
Rather drive by moonlight and not have giant beacons saying "hey, right here! there's a tank RIGHT HERE!"
Edit: I do understand moonless nights may be too dark to effectively drive and I may need headlights, but still, prefer not to use them unless necessary. Unless they provide some tactical advantage like tac lights did in BF3 with blinding. Might be good for intimidation if you have a lot of tanks all with headlights going. If the headlights help offset the light so its harder to see what is behind them then they may also serve to help mask other troops with the tanks. That could all be goodness.

That would make a great opening scene for a trailer.
NC Sunderer is out on patrol and stops when a Prowler turns on its headlights close by. AV troops pile out of the Sunderer and take defensive positions. Then a second Prowler puts on its lights. Then a third, and a fourth, all the way up to 10.
Cue barrage.

First post for me on this forum.
It's a beautiful clip. First few seconds were incredibly real to me. Graininess et al.
It seems to me that one slight detractor from realism in the clip is that, when the tank turns, it does so along its central vertical axis. It is a track-based vehicle so, when turning, our eyes expect one track to hold still/decelerate relative to the other track, thus causing the vehicle to turn; we do not expect it to turn along its central axis.
This, I believe, would impart a portion of the sense of "momentum" mentioned earlier in the thread.
Regarding the turret's momentum, I think we expect a certain slight jerkiness when the turret begins or ends rotation: Newton's first and all that. Maybe this bit of turret realism might be overkill for the game, though.
***edit***
I just checked and each track's width is approximately 1/5 of the entire vehicle's width, so moving the rotational axis to the rightmost/leftmost 1/10 of the vehicle's width would put the rotations right about the midlines of their respective tracks.
