Anyone else noticed a big increase in PS2 advertising in the pass week? Some of sites that I have visited through the past week, I have noticed a big increase in PS2 advertising. Which I personally am excited about because we need good advertisement from SOE to make PS2 as good as it possibly can be with numbers and such. Also leads me to believe beta is inching ever so closely...is it just me or has anyone else noticed the same thing?

Hopefully there will be a big fancy cinematic trailer at E3 that they can cut up and use for TV advertising.

Noticed the same thing myself. SOE is performing a pretty big advertising push since last week. It will probably continue up until E3. I sense an announcement.

Why would they need to bother with a cinematic trailer? Forgelight is gorgeous.

They don't have the numbers or a build that doesn't have pop-in issue for a professional trailer
CGI trailers give so much room for imagination too.

soe also has adapted to the new world and does a lot of social network advertising.
like they have a facebook page, the devs twitter a lot, and they invite youtube people to get their hands on the game and make nice videos of this. and donĀ“t forget the huge amount of excellent info they are giving to us, knowing that every search for a planetside community will end up here ;)
they really have learned a lot and i hope they keep it up this time!
i wonder if hamma has some data on the traffic and new accounts for psu over the last month? i have noticed a big increase on privates lately. and not the usual trolls that create new accounts to flame and annoy, but a lot of obvious new people who honestly want to learn more about the game ;)

This. They'd need to have the netcode/lag 100% solid before they attempt to do a large in-game trailer.
CGI trailers are shit and I'm sorry for anyone who bases a purchase decision off of them since they rarely come close to the actual gameplay.
Anyway, hoping for a BETA announcement and a presentation of huge combat at E3.

Anybody that buys a game for the CGI trailer is not very smart, but that doesn't mean CGI trailers are shit. You have seen Blizzard's trailers, haven't you? The WotLK trailer was one of the best trailers in gaming history.

There are lots of good ones out there. And they are fun to watch and at the same time give you a summary or a view of the story. A CGI trailer for PS2 could be a good video to summarize the factions and why they are fighting.
I don't think they are ever made to be seen as a purchase decision kind of thing. Sadly not so smart people see it that way.

Blizzard's trailers are amazing but they're not something I'd want to see instead of actual gameplay...
Okay, actually, for WoW, they are something I'd rather see.

I'd much rather have gameplay footage than an airbrushed movie, is my point.

This is what they should be setting their sights on, because THIS is a good trailer
Eve Online Tyrannis - Trailer - PC - YouTube
CCP is probably one of the best in the industry when it comes to trailers, but it doesn't hurt to aim high :)

I agree..... but why would they even NEED CGI? The graphics already beat most CGI quality.
I mean, really, going CGI would LOWER the graphics of the trailer.
All they need to say is "Fight THOUSANDS of players SIMULTANEOUSLY on a land mass MILES in diameter, in a THREE SIDED war for supremacy!"
And show off some night ops shots, maybe a Galaxy drop GIF, and finish with a picture of a MAX suit next to "PLANETSIDE 2".
Maybe toss in a free to play and that it's the sequel to the very first FPS.
I'm still a fan of
"Thousands of players per battle"
"Massive continental battlegrounds"
"Three distinct factions engaged an all out, endless war"
"Which side are you on?"

Well, we gotta be more specific these day, because after PS1 came out, EVERY online Counter Striker rip off listed themselves as "MMO FPS" and other things PS1 was the only holder of. They tried to make us think they were massive war games, when it was just massive numbers of people... searching server matches of 8v8. Quite an annoying time to be a gamer. Now they took out the "massive multiplayer" of online shooters, but the damage is done. Gotta be more specific in order to re-attract people who have only been subjected to false MMOFPS games.
Gotta find quick ways to explain what it means for thousands of players, that the battle ground are miles long, and other stuff.
Well, thousands of players per battle is pretty specific.

This game desperately needs a professional cinematic trailer if it wants to make a splash.
The "Massive Air Combat" trailer looked a little amateurish due to the 4:3 aspect ratio, lackluster definition and the fact that it used public domain (and highly cliched) music.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciated the hell out of seeing that footage, but it doesn't make a great first impression to an outsider on the lookout for the next big thing. And I really hope PS2 becomes that thing...although not to the point where it loses sight of what makes the game great, but that's another post for another time.
So yes, an E3 cinematic or professionally produced gameplay trailer would go a long way.

I genuinely don't know if it DOES need a cinematic trailer... I think they made an awesome decision getting TotalBiscuit as involved as he is, and doing community interviews with Hamma etc.
These days gameplay vids go so much further than cinematic trailers imho, especially when it comes to games that are persistant and mission-based than the typical games which have a greater linear, story-based vibe (remember, even most of the CoDs were originally based around a SP story).
Considering the amount of time that is wasted (i.e. takes time away from other areas of game development) I'd prefer to see a few very short cutscenes interspersed in gameplay than a full cinematic.

Dead Island. Didn't have much to do with the story, told you nothing about the gameplay. It was one of the best trailers I've ever seen. As good as that trailer was, I'm not eight years old, so I don't base my purchases off of any commercials or trailers, in-game or otherwise. (Though Dead Island was a lot of fun.) I'd still love to see a great PS2 trailer.
