View Full Version : I think Planetside 2 should start to get few cinematics trailers
I think it could be the time to start to make some Cinematics trailers thats show the back story and the conflict beetween Tr Vs and Nc maybe starting with when these guys first land on auraxis showing how the conflict take place etc
The convertion of the ex TR scientist into a Half religious fanatik ( Vs )
The begining of the NC révolution ( NC )
The Tyrrany of the Terran trying to crush the rebellions and their thirst of Ultimate power over people ! ( TR )
This could be quiet interesting especially for those who dont have any idea whats planetside is all about !

I fully support the idea of such trailers/videos. After seeing PS2 ads on non-PS2 youtube videos I think a trailer is the next logical step in marketing. This would also be an excellent hook to get people interested in Planetside2 Lore.
people to become interested in Planetside2 Lore.
Lore has to be interesting for people to care about it. Planetside's isn't, and it's hardly relevant in the game.
Focusing an advertising push about the lore seems like a surefire way to waste money.

I agree with bags, but if somehow somewhere empire cinematics to show up, I think they need to be highly biased, like Stew's post, which is clearly from an NC perspective. Faction loyalty.

Most pre-rendered cinematics are a waste of time and marketing money.
Considering how impressive Forgelight is, I'd love to see some "objective-based" videos like a walkthrough from beginning to end about how a 5-man squad might load up in a Gal, hotdrop on a Tech Plant, and perform a coordinated assault on the generator.
This sort of exposure would really show new players what sets PS2 apart from other shooters.

no, just have a simple text based tv spot that says things like:
To all of you who have ever played an FPS
The only FPS with 1,000's of people fighting on the same map.
a FREE MMO with 100's of tanks, planes, and ground troops
and
A sequal that has perfected a genre
if you think you have what it takes to take a base from me...
come down to the planet... Planetside 2

to be honest, i think sony has a lot of work to do on this subject. I totally agree that they aren t spending enought time on building the backstory. It s a very important thing to give to the gamers because as soon as they know where 'they' come from, they, right away, believe in their usefullness. knowing the story gives you a goal, a reason.
I would really like to see a few videos about each factions... bringing them to 'life'

Just make some recruitment propaganda videos, Star Ship Troopers style. >.>
Starship Troopers - WAR - YouTube
Starship Troopers - I***39;m Doing My Part - YouTube
Starship Troopers 3 - Go Fleet! - YouTube
Starship Troopers - March to Victory - YouTube

While the lore isn't at the forefront of the game, that doesn't mean it doesn't matter. DotA 2's lore is hardly relevant other than explaining why the Radiant and Dire fight each other, but it is totally absent in-game. PlanetSide falls in the same boat, methinks.

They should make 3 separate, short ads for faction loyalty.
A TR ad could be a Starship Troopers'esque propaganda.
An NC ad could be a video of the NC higher ups hacking into TR propaganda streams and making a speech about the tyranny, calling for rebellion, V for Vendetta style.
A VS ad could be maybe unveiling of the new technology discovered on Auraxis (Historical Documentaries maybe?), then the feed cuts out because the NC and TR started fighting. Then cut to a church like place, or wherever the VS go to worship vanu, and have the "preacher" talking about about how they have to join the war.

The reason it isn't interesting is because they (largely) haven't bothered to, and making a well made cinematic trailer(s) is definitely a way to do it. In my opinion, D3 is an underwhelming game that is living off well done cinematics. Now I'm not suggesting they go to the lengths that the D3 people did, but I do point them out as an illustration of the positive effect they can have on a franchise.

Some of you guys really need to read up on the psychology of marketing. No matter how you slice it, a well made trailer is invaluable to grabbing people's attention and drawing them to your product.
For those who are agains it you guys must know this !
Many people want a back story and a meaning even if its in a (( arcade game like HALO )) or anything !
A good back story telling is a must !
Making a serious and deep AURAXIS story telling showing How the division between the 3 terran colonies into 3 factions tr loyalist , Nc rebels and Vs half scientist half religions fanatiks !
Showing how the Vs get converted into a fanatiks factions after been in a close contact to VANU aliens ruins !
How the Terran become a loyalist but fashist factions and have try to keep the terran authority and trying to establish the lost contact with terran home wold
and How the NC as try to free themself from the Tr tirany ! And how they try to make a new wold free of this tyrany
etc...
those division are important in the back story and Since their is No campaign a NICE and WELL MADE Cinematics trailers is a must !

MAbey a cenematic for each contenant per empire. the default setting would be to play it when you first land/load onto the cont then never again but you still have options such as play everytime cont loads to don't play any cenematics.
To be honest I hope they add in some video capture system into the game like helmet cams or remote controlled recon drones. That way the playerscould make a quick 30 second to a minuet and a half cenematic for that area.

Guys, E3 is in a week.
Can't we just wait patiently to see what they're going to show?
If there is no trailer (cinematic or not) at E3, then it will be time to really be disappointed, and maybe even pissed off, because they'll have missed a great opportunity.
Until then, relax and keep watching these last couple of weeks' videos, they're pretty awesome already.

just my .02 however pulling artists to do CG work pulls them away from actual game development. You can make the cinematic during beta.

They could sort of mix up lore with a combat video. Like, come from a TR's perspective on the battlefield, talking about their beliefs while they fight in an epic scene of some sort. Like someone narrating in the background while the fighting is going on. Then do the other factions, that way the reasons for the war are explained but also demonstrated by the cinematic. I would prefer for it to lean more towards awesome combat and explosions and the like, but I do think it would appeal a little more if there was at least some background information.

on second thought if cockbite/rooster teeth did the video as more machinema, ala red vs blue style, I'd be ok with it.
