TB makes reference to the live demo with hundreds of players at E3.
Is hundreds enough? I'm just afraid someone may think this is just MAG with a sci fi skin.
thoughts?
Note: My last thread was closed due to the fact that there was a thread called Air Combat video - internal beta server. which had nothing to do with the live demo at E3.
There is another thread where TB is showing the GAL, but again, no one is discussing the Live demo at E3.
This thread is to discuss the live demo at E3.

yea hundreds they can show the scale of a battle for sure. not the overall war on a cont though which would be amazing to see from a admin cam perspective.

They may limit the play space to a couple bases in order for those "hundreds" to really appear like how the actual game will on release.

You can't field 100's of fighting players in mag.
And yes it's enough in the right terrain.

My best guess is they will show off the mission system and create a mission that brings these 100's of players to one single objective truly showing how epic the battles can be.

obviously they're keeping this internal and not inviting anyone outside except the 12 seats at E3.
If they could let released the build it would have been awesome to have thousands online for this.
One developer had mentioned spawning in a camera in the heyday and watching SG (Sturm on Emerald) unfold operations and I'm paraphrasing when I say it was awesome to witness.
It would have been cool to have 10 or so of the old large outfits get the build and go at it for 2 hours during the event. While I know for security they would have never allowed it, but they could pretty much blow away the competition with a demonstration like that and come away with Best at E3.

I doubt there has even been a playtest with "hundreds" of players yet. So prepping for E3 will likely be the biggest stress test the servers have had sofar. And from what TB said, I'm thinking 100+ players at the E3 demo rather than "hundreds".
But regardless, cram 100+ people into an outpost or base battle... it'll look pretty damn impressive.

still think they should film a cinematic with all the people from soe (and psu), then cut to the real battle

They will be confined to a specific mission area during the Demo (ie a few hex's not referring to mission system). There will be players at E3 and play testers from SOE at all of their offices.

Do they have a New York office?

You'd be surprised. 50 people is a lot when you put them in one place so 100s should be fine for demonstration purposes, it might not get as insane but it should appear like a bigger battle than most people have seen before.

Get you and your inside info Hamma, what aren't you telling us?
Did you walk through a door marked 'TOP SECRET BETA ROOM' by 'accident', when you were there?
Spill the beans Sir. I am not above tickling you.

What they need for that E3 demo is 100 or so good ole Planetside Veterans to show the world how this baby is played. Heart and all.

MAG is nothing compared to planetside. They sacrificed polycounts and textures just to allow the sheer scale of players, and even then they didn't use it.
Most of the fighting was done in small squad-vs-squad warfare. Sure, there were alot of squads, but the fighting in a particular area never went above 16v16.

Yes you can field hundreds in MAG, the biggest mode was 128 vs 128 = 256 fighting players. And 16 vs 16 is lol...., if the leaders co-ordinated properly you could have 128 vs 32, 64, or all 128. Check this out, MAG - The 128 Player Stampede - YouTube ,
that's one guy, "Contrabanjo" leading that whole company, that is why I hope PS2 gets the comms right :D
On topic, would be nice to recieve a beta key in 10mins from now saying they need more players for the E3 demo :D

There more I see, the more awesome it looks, and it looked awesome to start with.
I don't think the English language has suitable words to describe the amount of awesome that PS2 is currently at.

Well, I'm nowhere near E3, but supposing beta might start soon after E3 or so, it really sucks to know that I'm gonna be away from home over half of the "early summer"...

If Planetside 1 had a total of 300-400 players per continent, then "hundreds" of players at E3 seems about right.
Even 100 would be a pretty good sight if someone explains that this will be rather small considering what they're heading for.

Its not a stretch to figure they'll handle it exactly like MAG since it is the same parent company.
