This is probably a pointless topic for discussion since i would really expect it to be apart of the "modernising" of the game, but do you think when an outfit is created you should make a 2-5 letter tag? of course all sorts of _)(> would be accepted.

i would think it should be fully customisable how they're displayed for you, if you want them displayed.

but id like to see the option to have them displayed for friendlys, enemys, and in killspam.

obviously Planetside displayed full names for friendlys, but thats a bit of a mess on your screen.

oh yea an outfit tag would be something like:

FC - SKYeXile

SKYeXile[FC]

SKYeXile
<FC>

displayed before, after or underneath somebodys name,

I have attached a poll that should accurately measure the community's response on this.

Outfit tag.

As in something before your name?

Or the actual outfit name below your name that was in the original?

Yea just an abbreviation of your outfit name displayed. exactly where i guess isn't so important.

Outfit, rank, and maybe your specialty. This is part of the human part of organising a war.

I don't see the harm in it being an option, though in the same way choosing not to see them should be an option.

I like keeping the names simple and not cluttered with tags. Put the whole outfit name below the name just like PS1.

I wouldn't mind display options where outfits configure optional abbreviations and if that's what people want to see on friendlies/enemies then great. This seems like something customization can easily solve if it meets the bar.

I'd prefer to just have my name with my outfits name under it TBH

What exactly are we expecting for PS2 as far as the ability to see enemy player names when you look directly at them? Both as infantry and tanks? To actually see their name without advanced targeting?

Yeah, the best place for the outfit tag is under your name. Putting tags before your name, I find stupid. As someone said, glory whores.

Ehh... I think I misunderstood the poll for a second...

No I prefer the PS1 option that shows the full outfit name. If everyone is against that though I will settle for a 3-5 letter/number/symbol tag.

I want to start an outfit called the *Insert Faction* Pirates and have the tag <Arrg>

Eh. More options is usually a good thing. I voted yes.

Outfit leader should choose to elect having the Tag with the option of in-front of the player name, or below it; OR have the entire Outfit title below the Player name. That's a IMHO though

I personally would like to see the option to choose between the WoW style where the actual Outfit name is under your name or your Outfit tage is to the left of your name instead.

Users could choose to show name tags or not in PS1, I don't see why they would not keep the good ideas in PS2.

Now different name colors distinguishing between outfit members, friends, squad members and platoon members would be nice.

Even though friends would tend to be on the same empire, a different shade of red for friends playing on an enemy empire could be fun too.

Maybe another shade of red for members of your outfit's "nemesis" would also be fun. No XP bonus attached to nemesis kills though (or it could be exploited by setting largest enemy outfits as nemesis to maximize bonus XP).

Not a fan of tags really, but it would make sense if you could choose how you want peoples names to be displayed.. for example you could have:

For those people who want to minimise clutter but still see what outfit people are from.
Name - Tag

e.g.

Snipefrag (AA)

for those who like the traditional PS1 display:
Name
Outfit

e.g.

Snipefrag
Archangels-K

and for the people that really like clutter:
Name - Tag
Outfit

e.g.
Snipefrag (AA)
Archangels-K

And obviously just the name only. I imagine it just being 2 check boxes to enable tag and outfit to be shown in the HUD section.

Heh, I sense a lot of misunderstanding in the thread... I for one would like to see Tags like I have historically in some other FPS (like you're talking about in OP SKYeXile).

I think it's a simple, harmless way of quickly identifying people without being overbearing, and setting it based on membership of an outfit means that you're not burdened by having it as a permanent part of your char name.
