pretty sure that was the same server that TB was playing on, it was jsut empty, when there is a play test it will fillup. 4pm PDT sounds like a good time for a playtest.

I was the second person to post in the thread. So i thought i would be on the front foot to get them answered. Oh well. We can't get cake, eat it, then throw the crumbs at people. :lol:

Will lights be toggable on guns/vehicles etc?
Will engineers beable to place spot lights on the ground to set up awesome ambushes at night by blinding/illuminating the enemy so you can gun them down while they stagger around blindidly.
Can infitrators kill the lights in a base/tower/building by hacking a terminal? And if they can't then could you add it so an infiltrator could kill the lights in a base/tower/building?
Oh who am i kidding, i can't be mad at you. Or else i will get hit by the Ban hammer :eek:

I have extra timezones set up on my W7 clock using the additional clocks tab, but even then i can only add two more.
I googled it, PDT = pacific daylight time = PST = GMT -7
so i think it's like 9am our time. Now, if i could only figure out which day it is ;)

PDT is Pacific Daylight Time and PST is Pacific Standard Time. During the summer people use them pretty much interchangeably. I believe PDT is GMT -7 for those confused.

GMT is a reference time that never changes. That means when the US is off daylight savings time, PST is GMT -8 while right now PDT is GMT -7. PST and PDT aren't really supposed to be used interchangeably but inside the US it doesn't matter because people know what you are talking about regardless.
Edit: For clarification, the event is at 4pm PDT = 4pm GMT -7.

And here I was thinking that after Hamma's interviews were posted and with TB's video series being concluded, I'd have to wait a week until E3 to get my next Planetside 2 fix.
The only thing that could possibly bum me out now is if beta isn't announced at E3 (or if it's announced but is like 5 months away still). Because otherwise, I'm set through till E3, E3 is going to be awesome, and then I'll have a finite date to know how long until beta, at which point a few new screens and videos every few weeks would probably be enough to hold me over during that wait.

twitch.tv auto records your streams and makes them available to view later... unless the streamer purposly in his setting turns off the save video feature etc as he doesn't want others to view it on there for free later after it's broadcasted live.

Your connetion barely matters. Twitch seems to have fixed it so their streams kind of work now, but I anticipate more viewers than Twitch can handle for this stream. I'm likely going to wait for the YouTube upload.

VOD will be up on youtube in high quality and without lag, so it looks like that's the way to go.
I will say, I don't know what they changed, but I'm so glad Twitch.TV finally works again. Hasn't streamed properly for me in months, lol.
EDIT: Never mind, there's the lag. I don't get why even at 720+ Twitch is giving me 30Kbps down half the time... Ofc it still lags at 240.

This, so many times. From what we've heard it doesn't sound like Higby has personal experience with it, but there have been so many people asking about it that I really hope it's something we see added post-launch.

Definitely worried about what Higby had to say about how he wants spec ops teams to fly over contested areas. That's not quite alarming by itself but I must say, Planetside 2's scale is supposed to give you an option to go around that(literally and figuratively). Definitely a worry.
Also, the presence of 1 hit kill rifles definitely brings elite quickscopers to mind.

I do want to be fair, he didn't say anything IMMEDIATELY problematic, but I think it's something to be watched. I don't even know that we need to fly kilometers off the coast, 500m would be enough.

Definitely worried about what Higby had to say about how he wants spec ops teams to fly over contested areas. That's not quite alarming by itself but I must say, Planetside 2's scale is supposed to give you an option to go around that(literally and figuratively). Definitely a worry.
Also, the presence of 1 hit kill rifles definitely brings elite quickscopers to mind.

Hate restrictive boundaries! I am not looking to be forced into limited approach vectors.
Major pts (for those who missed it)
- 10 minutes of gameplay = 1 cert point. Cert pts earned offline as well (not sure how that works)
- No need to restart certs, it's possible to get every cert in game
- To prevent "boosting" like in CoD, there is 24/7 game master actively looking for cheaters. In addition, each player has a cheater rating in the backend and repetitive action increases the cheater rating.
- XP accelerators in the cash store
- Resources from capturing towers/hexagons are used to purchase vehicles from terminals
- Even when you throw a grenade purchased from a weapon bay uses up resources
- There's a cooldown on MAXes and vehicles, like in PS1.
- Footage of Sunderer, Magrider, Prowler, Reaver and Scythe shown
- Can switch seats in vehicles without leaving vehicle
- No lodestar, no transportation of vehicles but some plan on mobile vehicle spawn points
- One customization of galaxy is a cloaking ability
- Resources are not general, they are specific for certain things. Your empire may have a resource in surplus of one thing, but lacking resources in one area.
- Currently, attachments on vehicles/weapons do not affect the resource consumption. This might change
- Outposts outside of main bases. Strategy to take these before you go for the base, because it gives you a spawn point and decreases time to capture the base
- 4km draw distance, 1000m max air height
- Out of bound region enforced unlike in PS1, main reason to prevent idlers on the edges of map near ocean.
- Difficult for a one-man show. The game prevents trolls who go in mosquitos and capture one base by himself by the hex-territory system, it takes forever to capture that base if surrounding hexes is not owned by your empire. However, the game welcomes outfits who may want to take a random base but it has to be organized
- Customization of design: No ridiculous designs like Hello Kitty. Camo patterns available (i.e. Zebra skin). These camos actually have functionality to them (White camo for Esamir continent (snowy))
- Two customizable weapons for MAX, one on the left and one on the right. Can both be anti-infantry if you want, mix-and-match
- No customizable feature to make you look like another empire color
- Silhouettes of each infantry unit, MAX, vehicles are very distinct from each empire
- No difference between male/female MAX suits
- Signature heavy assault weapons (i.e. Lasher, Chaingun) not yet in game
- Reaver for NC only, Mosquito for TR only, Scythe for VS only. Each has strengths/weaknesses
- No hijacking of vehicles (mainly due to customizations), but it possibly might be implemented in the future.
- Infiltrator cloaks are temporary. There are certs to increase this time, but the downside is that you can't equip bigger weapons. Cloak is essentially a camo, anyone can see outlines of the infiltrator.
- One shot-One kill rifles possible in this game, mostly possible against infiltrators/light assault units
- Bullet speeds enabled, bullets do drop as distance increases
- Continents aren't exclusive to one type of biome. One part of a continent can be desolate and arid, while another part can be grassy and tropical.
- Post launch: Weather will be added. i.e. Thunderstorms, and smoke from bases can affect visibility
- Air vehicle resupplies at air towers

I was so mesmerized by the way the game looks that I had trouble thinking about what I would have liked to hear about next. Only remembered about outfit menus at the end.
I really enjoyed this and look forward for more. Gonna show this footage to all my gamer friends ASAP !

Wow. Very impressive stuff.
I believe this is my favorite coverage ever. I love how it had tons of exciting new stuff to show off, but also showed some of the more mundane stuff like walking through the inside of a base. I love that kind of detail.
Everything looks amazing. I'm going to have to sit down and watch the youtube video later to examine each thing point by point, but I'm sure others will delve into a lot of discussions as well and help refocus my thoughts.

I like being able to do it all. All it means is that I don't have to switch characters mid fight if my team fails to counter something. Why force vets willing to put in the time to switch characters?
It doesn't sound like it's going to take long to get back to the fight, and once you had your mains all at the relevant facility logging to and from chars and the battle called for it was pretty easy. Seems like an unnecessary hassle. Besides, if there is any sort of levelling curve it will keep players hooked longer than re-rolls would.

Infs were one shot from a Driver. Ask anyone who killed an inf at range by aiming at another person.

Jack of all trades characters won't exist even with all certs -- classes put role restrictions in that can't be circumvented. You get to be the infantry killing machine of doom OR heal yourself and others OR fly, etc.
Even if you put cert limits in, you'd still get jack of all trades players if they played long enough to max out multiple accounts for different classes. So that doesn't work in a free to play game, anyways.
I'll say it again: that Sunderer dashboard is sexy. Poor tank drivers -- they don't get a dashboard.
Loving the interiors of the tower and tech plant. Large open spaces with staircases and balconies for chokepoints and visibility advantages suggest some excellent indoor play. Especially compared to Corridorside.

I hate all this ambiguous remarks to beta...but really what else can they say? From the looks of things, the game could easily be in a beta state within the month (of june) but that depends on how complete they want the game to be when people start testing it.
If they want a proper beta (plenty of bugs, issues, maybe a missing item, feature or two) it could be weeks. If they want a "beta" (read, demo in which any issues can be excused as "beta") then it could be months. =/

umm yea considering the amount of people and tanks is gonna be amplified to whats in a normal battlefield game..i think TTKs should be higher...a tank would like popout from cover and get hit from like 5 infantry rockets and die instantly here it seems.

All combat vehicles are one-man driver/gunner things now (the Liberator and Galaxy/Galaxy Gunship excluded)... They're glorified infantry armor with a different control scheme.
Such things SHOULD die quickly, especially when struck from behind (like the Magrider, which I'm assuming is what prompted this).
Take away the drivers' guns, and we'll talk about beefing it up to feel like armor. This is the reason I'm against driver-gunned vehicles.
There's a reason the Lightning wasn't scarily armored in PS1. It's the same reason tanks and fighters are blowing up at a sneeze. ;)

This has become far and away my most anticipated game of this year, hell probably the next few years. It's looking amazing, with each new vid I just become more excited.

Running thoughts as I watch.
1) Pfft, so much for that whole 'Side Grades' bollocks they were touting. I'm seeing a lot of 'Upgrade your Accuracy and Damage' Certs. Not good.
2) 8:00 That is a huge area of land not covered by hex's. Not sure why.
3) 12:03 Instant changing of position within a vehicle. I really don't like the idea of this, a driver shouldn't be able to suddenly change to a gunner's position. Basically this is a solo tank buff. Secondary weapon as an AA weapon, when ever there's an aircraft attacking, just swap. Makes it too easy.
4) 15:24 Loadstars to be added eventually? Sounds good, liked flying them.
5) Galaxy Gunship, nice.
6) I like the new flight max altitude. Think that's higher than the original.
7) The whole boarder's thing is rather vague atm. I'm hoping that there are no limits to where a player can go. Hopfuly, this will be made to a few KM's from the coast line.
8) Love the look of the day/night cycle and lighting engine.
9) 46:30 Giraffe neck on the infiltrator?
10) 47:20 Is that VS attacking with a rifle butt? Instant Melee in?
11) 51:13 I'm not a fan of these different colour skins, TBH. I'm finding it very difficult to figure out the faction of the guy running there.

13) I... think they may wish to fix that drop pod. I have a feeling they're not supposed to kill their user.
14) I'm curious as to how useful prolonged base infiltration will be, if the cloaking device can run out like that.

Side grades is in reference to micro transaction purchases. Upgrading via certs is different than purchasing upgrades via cash.

Not only is the map color a lot better but the HUD is also flatter. It used to be sort of angled and the one we saw in this stream was flat. I much prefer the flat version as opposed to the more 3D look.
Flat also means they might be enabling customization to move the HUD around. I'm excited about that. HUD customization is quite important and I'm happy to see the recent improvements.
I was a bit concerned at how much the Scythe seemed to feel like a floating camera. I get the impression that thing can ravage whatever it wants to with ease, particularly ground targets.
Although I also noticed a few other notable features of the scythe...
1) It was noticeably slower than the reaver, though I am not certain if that was because Kevmo set the throttle low. It looked like it was around 185 kph, while the Reaver was in the 205-220 range. For comparison the Mosquito in one of Total Biscuit's videos was easily cruising at around 245 kph. The slower speed of the Scythe makes sense to counteract the extreme maneuverability. Slower will mean it's an easier target and so it will be forced to utilize that maneuverability.
2) It's acceleration was extremely abrupt, both when using the afterburner and after the afterburner was disabled. It quickly shot up to afterburner speed and then immediately dropped back to the 185 kph. By comparison the reaver took a bit longer to get up to speed but also coasted a bit on the speed boost which the scythe didn't do.
Aircraft speeds are much higher than in PS1 and that might make the game world seem smaller. Clearly the facilities are larger than PS1 and the area looks bigger, but it doesn't seem all that big to me, which is a bit disappointing if we're expecting > 1500 people crammed into that continent. I roughly expected Indar to be at least 2x the size that it is.
Also I see Total Biscuit is like me and absolutely loves Ceryshen. Perhaps they are holding back on Ceryshen because it really needs snow storms and a good weather system to truly capture the awesomeness of the gloomy, rocky, dark wintery greatness. Esamir must retain its Norse theme and names, and I expect to see northern lights, which I imagine will look quite spectacular with Forgelight. I'd also like to see a fjord in part of Esamir. Howling Fjord in WoW was a really cool zone and it would make a great environment for Planetside combat. I could actually see an entire continent that was a Fjord, so perhaps you should save that for another continent idea. It's a good one.

When Ceryshen appears I hope she is a brutal unforgiving mistress with gloomy days and very dark nights. And storms. Lots and lots of storms. But there should be occasional clear nights illuminated by the northern lights.
Skyrim and Howling Fjord of WoW are awesome environments. Can't wait to see one or more continents designed after them. In fact I think Esamir would be quite well suited for it. I could really get behind that. Then release Ceryshen as the brutal unforgiving wintery hell after weather gets added in post-launch. Hossin would be another great jungle/swamp continent that would be particularly enhanced by weather. I could see those continents coming along post-aunch to highlight the great things a weather system can do.

I have a fairly large screen so the the UI being too small isn't an issue for me. Not to mention, if I'm locked in a fight to the death I'm likely not looking anywhere but my surroundings and enemy.
Regardless though, was why I asked if you could increase/decrease the size of it.

I do want to be fair, he didn't say anything IMMEDIATELY problematic, but I think it's something to be watched. I don't even know that we need to fly kilometers off the coast, 500m would be enough.
That was pretty much all you could do in PS1 ... but it is useful. If you have your platoon in gals you don't want to be interrupted by rude reavers and shot down before you get to your target. :p

Side grades is in reference to micro transaction purchases. Upgrading via certs is different than purchasing upgrades via cash.
The cert system looked a lot like EVE Online to me with flat power increases. More damage. More control. More speed. Shorter acquisition timers.
All of these things are pure advantage to a veteran and punish new players who don't have them by comparison.
I don't like that much at all.
I also think upgrades should cost resources. Management of resources is supposed to be an important part of PS2. So far the only resource management I see is...
- grenades / consumables
- vehicle purchases
I also have a hard time seeing how people will be motivated to go after certain territories due to resources when they just give people resources simply for fighting anywhere. If fighting -> resources then specific territories becomes completely irrelevant. If I don't have to make meaningful loadout choices then resources also become irrelevant.
Also, by the look of the resources and the little bar below them, I estimate that the current resource caps are 5000 for each of the 3 (non-Auraxium) resources
Costs:
- Flash 10 (resource 1)
- Sunderer 150 (resource 1)
- Lightning 80 (resource 2)
- MBT 100 (resource 3)
So if there is resource deprivation it is targeted at specific vehicle sets, like transportation (sunderer/flash), the lightning (AA), or the MBTs. Usure where aircraft come in. I expect Galaxy is probably the same resource as Flash/Sunderer, with the Lib/ESA each matching to either the lightning or the MBTs, hard to say which.
Grenades were 10 resources.
The resource cap of 5000 seems high given those numbers. I can pull 50 MBTs before I'm drained, assuming no incoming resources. It seems at that rate I would care little about fighting for resources on the continent if I had a healthy surplus. Losing a territory that provides my tank resource is unlikely to motivate me if I can pull 50 tanks without any income whatsoever. That's many hours of entertainment before I actually start caring. And even then if even a small amount of resources is trickling in I might never care.
Based on all this I'm not much feeling that the resource system is set up for success. The caps seem high, and the fact that we get lots of resources by fighting lowers the value of territory. And even then I can fight for a good long time without risk of running low on any resources, especially if fighting nets you a significant sum. Making matters worse is that if I run out of my Prowler resource I can then go pull over 60 lightnings while I let some passive income restore my prowler resources. I might not ever care about any specific territory if I juggled between different resources.
If you want resources to matter that cap needs to be probably 1/5 of what it is now, or at least half. I'm not sure how to balance out the fighting resources vs the territory resources. The territory resources need to matter and be a significant factor or nobody will ever fight for them. Perhaps if you only got the resource provided by the territory when fighting over it would be a step in the right direction. However that would limit the things that could be done in that territory to mostly the vehicles/consumables that use that territory's resource.

Resource costs and cap still need to be tested. Pretty much the majority of systems still need to be balanced in an actual play-tested environment above the usual in-house numbers. Don't expect the numbers to stick at all, so basing any theories or estimates off of those numbers is a bit fruitless right now.

What I do wonder is, once they implement the weather system: will we get some sort of weather-prediction system? Visibility can be quite important if you plan an action: covert wouldn't mind going in in a big rain/sandstorm where as a big vehicle action might prefer clear skies.
I'm not saying that it would have to be accurate, heck if the system "gets it wrong" it might even be funny :p
But some sort of meteo might be nice.

One of My Issues:
Matt (and the PS2 team) are going great lengths to give people the options to "play the game how WE want to play it" ....yet they force us to remain in contestable zones and not be able to skirt around the edges of conflict.
What if that's how I want/like to play? Please don't limit a certain game play style and feed me a "this is what's better for you" line.
I started playing PS1 on day one of retail release. At that time my computer was.... less than optimal. I couldn't go anywhere NEAR a base battle (of any size). Flying galaxy for transport, random isolated tower fights and battles "in the middle of nowhere" were all I could do...and I loved every second of it.
I hope we can get at least a little wiggle room (½ - 1 km perhaps) to enjoy the waves off the coast

Does anyone know what resources can get you other than vehicles and grenades? Higby seemed to say only auraxium will be used for getting new guns. But as a grunt i just don't see myself being able to spend the rest of my 3 resources on grenades only. Has anything else been mentioned with regard to resource purchases?
Edit: Forgot to mention that the games looking awesome :). I really liked how to tower interior looked, will be some nice fights in there.

Was anyone else disappointed that there's only going to be three continents? And that they're all going to have a sactuary warp gate from every empire?
One of the most fun things about Planetside 1 was that when you log in you could be fighting on an entirely different continent. And it was actually a challenge to take an Empire's home continents.
It seems to me that depending on server population you're going to have the same battle in the same place most days because even if you push someone all the way back to the warp gate, unlike in ps1 where there is the potential for you to push on to the next continent (unless it is a link to sanc) and secure the ground you've made, in ps2 there will be much less reason for people to leave a continent as they can just rearm in the warp gate an push out as soon as the defenders have left.
In planetside 1 at least the attackers would have to regroup in the sanctuary and at that stage they could chose to make an offensive on a different continent. I just feel like there aren't enough attack options, there's only 3 conts to launch an assault on so I can see it getting stale quite quickly...

Pretty sure that's just an evolutionary thing, and only the beginning. They have plans that cover several years, and I'd expect the world to expand along with that.

Not only is the map color a lot better but the HUD is also flatter. It used to be sort of angled and the one we saw in this stream was flat.
There's a slider in the UI to adjust between angled and flat. Also three mouse sensitivity sliders for UI/Soldier/Vehicle.
I'm hoping we can also move things around, as I prefer the map to be ontop, just off of center.
Really enjoyed the stream. Can't wait to see it all come together for E3!

Only thing I am worried about was said in the first few minutes of the game.
They have a system where they already know it will be exploited. And then you get the answer there are gm's to handle it? Looking at previous PS1 track records regarding hackers and cheaters and "today's" record with customer service in other games I do not like this answer at all.
It might be better to say "Okay we came up with a system that is flawed, how are we going to fix the holes?". Which for example can be to limit the amount certs earned in a certain time. Or perhaps redesign how certs are earned.
Other than that.. maybe a higher flight ceiling of 2K max but losing thrust at around 1700 which makes you stall at 2K.
The towers and inside of bases look a bit dull and empty, like they serve no purpose whatsoever in the world. Assume this is still in Alpha?
The rest looks all great by the way.

I would be if this were a boxed game, but for an MMO no, not at all. They'll add more as the game progresses, which is awesome because it'll keep things fresh.

I got to see Amerish under construction - it is looking badass.
As for the Scythe maneuverability (I think Malorn mentioned) the devs are still toying with how it reacts. They said it was severely OP when they first got it in so I don't think it's quite there yet balance wise.
Kevm0 is the vehicle master in PS2 - the shot of the Scythe cockpit I took was at his desk. He is the man that makes sure they all work right and knows all of their ins and outs.

My only complaint is the silly camo. I think I'd rather see a hello-kitty logo on someone's head than be foot-to-toe in leopard-print. Silly logos/stickers are things people put on tanks/guns etc. Zebra camouflage? Not so much.
Other problems might arise, but the fact that that's my only problem with the game so far is pretty damn impressive.

In PlanetSide 1 it was only ever worth going exclusively for one role for various reasons - wont the balance for MAXes in PlanetSide 2 by exactly the same, therefore making choosing each arm a waste of time?
It could be made useful if only one arm could fire at one time although that would require a rethinking of a lot of balance issues I guess.

I like to think of it as just being a good thing to have the option. A lot of people will probably take 2 of the same type of gun, but if there ends up being value in mixing and matching, you have that option too.
Nice to have as many customizations options as possible, considering that the removal of freeform inventories cuts some of our options for creativity. I'm hoping load out and other customization options will give us the chance to at least approach that freeform inventory level of options, in addition to expanding beyond it as we already know we will be able to do in some ways.

So I watched the video and I really liked what I saw. The only thing I am dissapointed by are the very bland interiors. I don't really mind that they are more open than in PS1, but it is just a couple staircases and some walls... I hope they are going to add more props to it so it looks less bland. Things like crates etc.

I was taking about the BFRs not the MAXes in PlanetSide 1. The thing with using different weapons on the BFR is that they have different projectile speeds meaning you can't lead the shots correctly for both guns at the same time and in practice its far superior to have double the time to kill at the expense of versatility. Regardless of the arguments in practice every BFR I can remember had duel load outs (excluding armor scorpion and the NTU gun which PlanetSide 2 MAXs wont have).
Its true that it does add some options but with free 2 play I can imagine this being a trap for newbies - I think it could be rebalanced in some way to make taking two different guns worthwhile. As it stands I can't see how this is going to turn out any differently from the pointless option of having a choice to mix guns on BFRs in PlanetSide 1.

Didn't they mention that the interiors were unfinished?
I expect they want to get more people playing before they start filling up interiors. There's no point designing a room when they have a limited number of testers and then finding out it's too cramped.

Ah I see I overlooked that you said BFRs, sorry.
I think the quicker TTK will make having two different weapons more effective because even with 1 AI weapon you can still kill quite fast. In PS1 you could really feel the increased damage, but if people die quicker you get to a point where more could be simply overkill.
