feel free to quote, but please don´t post pc gamer scans.
they have asked us politely to not do this with their last us article, so i guess this applies to this one as well.

If ps2 will be released this winter then beta should be starting very soon then. They might very well go with the first wave of beta invites right after E3 which for some reason makes really good sense to me.
Sorry, but posting scans of recent articles typically is not allowed here. And until I hear it from one of the developers mouths or Smed I'm not believing any release date.

thanks for removing! (edit: oops thanks goku for moderating, don´t want to upset the pc gamer folks)
oh and thanks for the info in the first place ;)
nice find!
looked like it was more than an assumption of the author like in the last article.
this looked like a more or less official timeframe!

Sorry, I didn't think that'd be a problem with just being a partial scan.
I've chopped out all content now.

For the people who missed it. At the end of the article it said: Release: Winter.
But what is interesting, it says the article was written by Evan Lahti. The same person who said in the previous article in the US mag that he thought the game would come out in 2013. So what changed his mind?
Cool. Can someone with the mag say if there's anything new / interesting in the article?

Oops.
Sorry Goku.
I've edited it down.
Hope that's OK.
If not, apologies.
Aye, I know, it's just their opinion I guess.
But it'd make a nice Xmas present :)

Surprisingly, winter extends from December all the way to March of the next year.
That looks fine to me, but tbh I have no idea. If they complain its easy enough to take down.

Well its not offical and they always try and give some estimate, but thats pretty good.
Judging from that, Beta for us must be pretty bloody soon.

thanks again for the effort!
any other interesting news in there?
looks like this time it´s not the recycled us article again!

It's a guess. I you recall PCGamer US said 2013 sp if PCGamer UK says Winter 2012 it's been brought forward! Yeaaa!

There may be a synchronisation button to allow Gal pilots to drop everyone at once, and drop pod speed could be increased via certs.
Deploying a Gal as a spawn point nets the pilot experience over time for players that use it to spawn in.
Higgles talking about balance: "Being able to drop six MAXes is pretty fucking cool, and I'd probably be willing to give up four or five seats in my Galaxy to be able to drop six MAXes instead of standard soliders. It's usually balancing the number of seats for functionality."
Brief chat about EVE's time dilation approach to network lag for massive battles, and Higby saying it isn't a concern from their years of experience. Frame rates are their biggest concern, with having "as many players as possible with as many customisations as possible and as many vehicles moving on your screen in a way that you can still play and get 60 frames per second. that's been our biggest technical hurdle."
Internal play tests have been conducted with 120 players and with "thousands" using AI simulation.
It runs at 60 fps now, on "pretty beefy" hardware.
There's a lot more low-end optimsation left to do.
That, along with Firefall and Rage, PS2 will run on one of the only built-from-scratch, PC-exclusive FPS engines in years.
That's something that every PC gamer should celebrate.

I'm starting to think that the official launch will be sometime early 2013, but we'll see a very liberal "closed" beta and open beta towards the end of 2012.
These F2P games don't have traditional launches. They are much more transparent. Tribes Ascend was in a very liberal closed beta for so long, anybody who wanted to play it, got to. I totally forgot about the game when it "launched."
I'm assuming something similar will happen with PS2.

Before didn't he say he "thought" it would be coming out in 2013? Now is he stating it more as fact?
Is this an announcement? I mean, I know dates have to be pushed back, but is this the official time they are shooting for?
Higby? Confirmation? Anyone?
Must not panic. Staying calm...

I would assume something similar will happen as well, but I really, really hope the game is very very nearly finished when they start allowing masses of unwashed enter the servers.

That's really misleading.
The CryEngine 3 and Frostbite 2 have PC versions that are built to completely take advantage of all PC hardware. Just because they have a version that is also on the consoles, doesn't mean the PC version isn't built to take full advantage of a wide range of hardware.
The rendering pipeline of the PC version is going to be vastly different than that of the console version of any game engine. So while they are the same engine, share a lot of same framework, the low-level stuff is going to be quite different and tailored specifically for hardware it is running on.
They try to match the graphical effects on each platform as close as possible when they can. That's about it.

Errr... I meant 2012. Open beta towards the end of 2012, not 2014.

The feature in the US one also had their guess at the release date, and without going home to look at it, I believe they guessed it to be in spring of 2013. So, at least we're moving in the right direction.

The right direction is sooner? Personally I prioritize the game being finished and very tight over my need to play it.

What I read...
We'll I've actually done some editing in the CryEngine 3. The latest builds provide some of the most beautiful graphics I've ever seen. The forest demo runs flawlessly despite the massive amounts of tessellations provided by DX11.
Frostbite 2 is also used in a handful of other games.
You can go to here (http://publications.dice.se/)to read up on the core of the engine. They aren't really messing around with things.

Oh no don't get me wrong i love the engines (well at least Cry3 as i have modded on it) not sure about frostbite 2, i meant was that the assets and builds of the engine they are using is quite far from optimization for PC.:)

Since we're talking about the engine... Has anyone heard anything about ForgeLight's utilisation of DirectX 11?
I'm assuming DX11 will be supported natively, given that the engine is brand new, and it probably has an intended lifespan of 7-10 years.
Do we know anything yet?

Interesting, so this pretty much confirms a December 21st this year is the official release.:D
