View Full Version : Now that we've seen the inside of a Sunderer...

Reactions? Things we've noticed?
I spotted 12 seats, seemingly divided into groupings of 2, 4, and 6. Any ideas on what, if anything, those groupings represent? It had only two guns, so those 4 don't appear to all be gunner seats. Either 4 or 6 MAX-capable seats?
Smoke confirmed, though I wish Total Biscuit had asked to see it deployed... ;)
Handling looked acceptable, visibility was fantastic. I wish I could have gotten a feel for the momentum and feeling of heft the vehicle has -- next time somebody gets their hands on one, let's see it plow into some other vehicles to show off the reputed torque and linebreaker qualities, shall we?
Discuss!

It'll be pretty sick if you can look behind you and see the passengers inside. Maybe flick them off while they look at you? The vehicle itself doesn't look completely polished, on the level of the reaver or NC max, still kinda plastic toy look. But overall, excellent!

We need a cert to put firing ports on it so the guys inside can shoot out.

Lol I've seen it before. "Put a AT missile on it", "It'd make the perfect scout vehicle". Gives me a laugh every time, especially when you realize they only just got the Stryker out, which is basically what the Bradley was meant to be.
What's even funnier is you can see it happening with the F-35 right now. "Put stealth on it" "my guys need a fighter-bomber, give it bombs too" "We need a V-TOL version, sacrifice some speed and stealth for better carrier ops" "Now it can't fulfill air superiority, give us a land version too".

Can I make my men wear the missiles as hats? And have that sign in 50 languages?
Here's a shot of it.

Apparently sunderers can deploy smoke.

I saw the smoke when I was there - it was pretty sweet. :D
Glad to see the cockpit! It had not been completed yet when Jenny and I were out there they just had the raw model of it.
The sunderer is badass.

That was a TR Sundy, so I bet we already do.

Can you describe the smoke? Was it a quick deployment, and then it stopped, or was it an ongoing production of said smoke? Was it a large enough smokescreen to envelop adjacent vehicles in tight formation?
Also, did you get to drive it? If so, any insight into how it "feels," power and handling wise?

With that cockpit, they need to sell dashboard junk as for-pay customization. Fuzzy dice, hula dolls, bobble heads.... so what if nobody but you would see it!

We know that second seat (front passanger) controls the front gun.
Question is, who controls the back gun?

The one thing I noticed there is he didn't need to get out to switch seats. Kind of convenient if you ask me.
And this kind of details makes me wish tanks had cockpits too. We could maybe have a little view port somewhere or a little rabbit hole like this:

But you know, with a protective glass over it and some more updated panels or something.

I saw them use a smoke in the live stream earlier, from a grenade shot. I am still amazed how cool it looked. It must be a thousand times cooler if it's used to smoke an entire SUNDERER. Freakin massive awesome truck.

Just under 50% of the screen is taken up by dashboard. Great. Why don't I just play on a 15 inch monitor again.

Because then you'd be taking up 50% of a 15 inch monitor, which would give you even less space silly! :groovy:

The 3rd person view was looking rather nice... not as zoomed out as many PS drivers would have it, but perfectly useable.

And only 5% is taken up by the ui, seriously it is comical to me with these massive cockpits and the itty bitty minimap/healthbar. I like my space efficient but jeez lol :D

Well considering Flashpoint did this back in 2001 one would expect it to be standard in games dealing with transportation vehicles...
Flashpoint also had vehicle enter/exit animations.
On the other hand, PS1 had vehicle enter/exit animations aswell, and it was one of those small things that made the game feel well though of and well designed, and they removed those for PS2...

Is it wrong to want it as unintrusive as possible though? I do not find static objects blocking my vision to be compelling gameplay. I'd rather see the world.
Driving that would feel like playing the original Everquest again..

+1 for the dashboard extra's.
I'm getting this mental picture of some driver going mad in chat because someone shot the head of his hola-doll when they fired at the cockpit :p

The viewer is looking at a downward angle, so it is bigger than it would be 'eyes in the boat'.

I'll tell you what -- let's have a customization that gives a massive windshield with a smaller/lower dashboard (you can freelook, afterall) at the tradeoff of less frontal armor... ;)
It's an armored vehicle, of course the visibility will be limited by protection concerns. As such, I find the small height of the windshield makes sense and feels like I'm in an armored truck.
The point is, the side visibility is pretty decent and there don't appear to be huge blind spots. I'll rely on my gunners to keep an eye on the skies, but I've got a clear view of the ground out to the horizon.

Well if 'sightseeing' is so important to some people, why aren't they driving ATVs instead of trying to make everything else into an ATV?

Made of treestuff? By bounce away, I assume you mean decapitate you, and then float around and blow up all of your friends and family.

The NC has tried to engineer a new vehicle with treestuff, however, it proved impossible to cut and mold into shape, and at the loss of 50 diamond drills, the NC were forced to dismiss the plan for treestuff built Vanguards.

That only happens to low flying aircraft and AMSes, other ground vehicles just try to hump the tree after it bitch slaps em.

I think the dashboard in the sunderer is a bit too large, and it could be scaled down a bit.

the dashboards would be the perfect place for stupid cash shop items or cross-soe-game gadgets like everquest or freerealms bobbleheads and stuff like this.
people who like this stuff can have fun with it, but would not annoy others who don´t want to see this. others would only see this if vehicle jacking makes it into the game and i wouldn´t mind to see stupid stuff inside a stolen vehicle becuse it adds personality to the driver i stole it from. would be fun to hack abondoned vanu vehicles to see how many of them have little pink unicorns on their dashboards and fuzzy dice with rotating rainbowcolors on their backview mirror!

Then why is the gunner view superior? The sunderer gunner view. You're inside the vehicle, just the same. Meaning the equipment exists in the vehicle. Somehow manages to show the outside world without a huge dashboard.

Wouldn't a camera view give you an odd view rather than all natural. It'd be unblocked, but it'd also be magnified a bit. Besides, the inside gives a better immersion, and accidental run overs! :D

Besides, the inside gives a better immersion
Not everyone finds the same things immersive, or really cares about it. I find internal coherency very valuable in a game. Can do something on A, but not B. Why can't I do it on both? 'Because I said so!' kills immersion.
Its not even a hard fix. You add a camera to the top of the roof. Its like ten minutes of effort. I'm happy, you're happy, we're all happy!
