View Full Version : Will feeding your team false intel be against the rules?

For example, a large outfit is about to attack an important enemy hex, so they create an alt on the enemy team and try to draw as many players to the other side of the continent before the attack (I would assume by typing "enemy at Hex ???!" in the chat). I'm not sure if the developers want this kind of gameplay or if this was an issue in PS1, so vets please inform me on how this worked in the old game.

Of course not. How can anybody determine "false information on purpose" with "I'm just a dumbass and misinterpreted what I saw" or "I believe anything in general chat, especially enemy's general chat." The main thing that'll prevent this is that who the hell cares what some BR1 guy says in general chat? He'll be one of thousands talking, no one's going to pay attention to him. So no one is really going to bother in the first place.

Fair enough, I suppose it is hard to distinguish the trolls from the misinformed. I assume the only way to make an impact on the chat is to spam it with your fake distress call, which would be very clearly within grounds for being banned (or at least, chat banned).

There's always gonna be someone trying to spread lies, but the new mission system is going to make it very hard for those people to disrupt an empire.

Plus the zerg isn't really going to respond to distress calls, they're too preoccupied with their current fight. Usually its the outfits that respond to backhacks and stuff.

You could prevent this and turn spying and false intel into a legitimate tactic by allowing cloakers to use an item that intercepts the voice comms of nearby enemy players. This would obviously only last ~90 seconds and be on a huge cooldown.
If this were to go in it would be my guess that people wouldnt use in-game voice or at-least not top outfits

Who says it'll be a random BR1 guy?

That would only work to remove the noobs. Skilled players such as my outfit would never listen to an unconfirmed or unreliable or unknown source.

Spreading false information isn't a concern. Spreading correct information is, like letting the enemy know where an outfit is planning to raid and when and with what forces.
However, this is such a small part of the game and won't ruin anyone's fun IMO. It's not like a flawed game mechanic or a hack that you can see is happening and be actively frustrated. Behind the scenes talk won't even be apparent while your playing so I don't really care personally.
If someone knows I'm coming, bring it on.

Spying and other clandestine activities like spreading disinformation should never be against game rules, they only add to the game by including a whole new battle-space for players to fight in.

Why would anyone want to do that? "Hey, lets go onto the other team to draw them away from the place we are attacking so we can sit on our arses and do fuck all for 15 minutes"

I respond with this.
Why are Operation Metro only servers in BF3 where all you do is sit there and shoot people that run up the escalators the most common thing??
For most casual gamers success = fun.

Pointless question. First of all its not enforceable in game. And even if it were its unlikely GM's would not want to chase off clients by enforcing such a rule. Secondly in this age of communication with things like twitter, e-mail, vent and teamspeak you couldn't keep a secret under hat if you wanted to. Moles will be a pest in any outfit if it loosely invites members which most do.

Higby would probably file this under "meta game," not exploiting or griefing.
Not that it would be a very effective tactic. But still...

On the internet there's more truth in this statement than is comfortable.

Who the hell fights in a war game, with vehicles on land and in the air, with hundreds or thousands of people fighting... only to draw the enemy away.
May not be against the rules, but it is one of the dumbest, and asinine ideas I have ever heard.
