it has become clear to me after all the vids so far that aircraft are impossible to land safely. in the GDC Higby almost had it but it fell off the landing pan and proceeded to blow up. in this last stream a Reaver landed but got lit on fire.

i would like to see a stressful landing at some point. good luck to the devs.

If you aim well, it lands on enemy soldiers before taking fire...

I wonder if there will be autohover, autoleveler, etc...stuff that makes it easy to go for a quick whizz on the way to the target?

Though I doubt it's so hard to do it's impossible to learn it is an amusing thing you pointed out that all the footage we have seen so far is essentially people crashing aircraft lol.

Watch the TB stream with Higby where another developer is flying. Kevmo I recall his name being. He landed it flawlessly and barely had to adjust.

But he still took damage though, which i hope the red splash on the sides of the screen wern't his aircraft taking damage. Because i have not seen a damage free landing yet.

Ha my favorite part was when Kevmo was showing off the tower and you see that Gal fly by like "hey whats up check me out." Next thing you know you see the thing roll over and nose dive into the ground. I thought that was hilarious.

I've seen vids of mossie/reaver safely landing on air tower's pads twice now I think.

edit: Arclegger's post must have something to do with the Da Vinci Code.

If you watch it even more closely when Kevmo is playin in the tower around the end, there is another dev who lands his aircraft flawlessly without having to barely adjust either...

The name should pop-up on the frag list.

Yeah, if this is the case it needs to be fixed, I don't like the concept of disposable vehicles in games which you just throw away like a dirty tissue.

we've seen at least 2 times guys landing safely (in last vid once too and I believe once in one of the early TB videos). the time he caught fire he actually almost crash-landed. Later he safely landed onto that tower without a scratch.

edit: actually he did decelerate significantly and was pretty close to the ground before jumping out that time he caught on fire, probably unsorted due to alpha. no need to worry.

No offence, but I think there's also a pretty wide divide between a gamer and a game developer in terms of skill.

Also we can spend hours learning the game, they have to actually work :D

I personally like landing being difficult. More power to the skilled pilots!

Just flying any aircraft normally in real life damages it. ;P (I dont see a tiny tiny fraction of health loss when landing as that huge of a deal)

This x100. One reason I stopped playing battlefield after BF1942 and Desert Combat was all the helicopters got "easy mode" turned on. They no longer felt like helicopters with autohover and dumbed down controls. I've flown real helicopters and anyone who's ever flown anything, even an R/C aircraft, can tell you it's a lot more difficult than "press W to go". That's not to say we should turn this into a flight sim, but damn, make it harder than piloting a hot air balloon.

The Scythe looks like it would be no problem to land, besides, Reavers and Mossies are for sucks.:vsrocks:

I gotta agree that it's more fun when it takes skill just to take off a bit. But PS2 looks like it'll have advanced AND easy flying. The fighters look easy to use, but the Galaxy looks INCREDIBLY HARD! I can't wait to fly it!

Mmmmm....pho. When i first saw Higby flying the reaver in the GDC vid I thought the flight looked very arcade-y (its a word  !!) TBs video jettin around in the mosquito only confirmed my suspicions. That being said, Im glad to see that there might well be patience and skill involved in piloting, or at least landing, an aircraft.

With all the possible ways to get killed in an aircraft in PS2, landing will be the least of the worries.

I think they just said that to hide their Indiana Jones inability to land aircraft.

I'm looking forward to jumping on my ATV off a canyon wall in an experiment to determine the TTK of a Flash(?) on a Reaver. All in the cause of balance-checking 'yunderstand?

Landing does look like it will take some skill to do so without damaging your aircraft, which is good as it encourages people to either become good pilots, or not fly.

As for planes being heavily disposible... I think not. From what I've seen air vehicle pads seem rather few and far between, (the devs almost always flat out SPAWN their aircraft in the videos I've seen.) making it inadvisable to use them as throw-away planes unless you like walking a lot.

My main concern is that the Sythe may be ...well it's going to be scary manuverable. From the dual commentary footage I can easily envision a good Scythe pilot getting up inside the tech plant area and wreaking havoc.

Crashing didn't stop people in BFBC2 trying to fly a helicopter then crash into a building after 2 seconds. People don't learn, but that will solve its self because A) we have to spawn our own vehicles and thus can't steal other people's vehicles and B) People will run our of resources quite fast. But having a training ground for flying would be very helpful, because i don't think in any BF game, have i seen the campaign teach me how to fly. So thats why most people suck. :

And definitely with the ability just to buy another on spawn will really help people learn to fly. Oops i crashed... 15 seconds later new ship. Also without 10 people all spamming E at the same time.
