If I've never played Planetside 1 before, and don't have the disks, how do I buy the game? Or is it just through the client?

Yes, but do I only pay the subscription? Or do I have to do something else?

Hm.....
Anyone else?
I'd like to be sure, because of this:
If a trial version or free version of a particular game is not available, or if you would like to access the full benefits of a game that may not be offered through a trial version, you must purchase the game software that you wish to play

That trumps what I've said then, I have no idea and you can probably disregard everything I said. Sorry bout that. I've never been in your situation, given I still have the original discs for the original game and its expansion.

I'm pretty sure you have to buy the game, then pay a sub. Not sure if it comes with a free month or not. Personally, I don't think it's worth it. For the sub maybe, but not the box price + sub.

yeah, you can download the launchpad, but while buying a sub you get a page asking you to buy planetside. So unless someone can tell me where in the download to find the key, you have to buy it

That $20 fee makes no sense to me at all. I had 5-6 accounts from the trial days and when the free 45 days came out, ALL of my accounts were unlocked. Also, I recently re-subbed on 2 of my old accounts without any mention of a $20 fee. Definitely only bought one copy of this game.

don't get it, If you really want into the beta there are going to be easier ways to get in.
It's crazy too, cause I could still see this game being semi popular if it went free to play.

I was facing the same problem myself and I spent a good twenty minutes looking at the SOE site before I finally figured out how to buy Planetside. They should really work on making their site easier to navigate.
Here is how you do it:
Log in to your SOE account.
Go here: http://www.soe.com/getthegame/
Scroll down and click "Buy now" on Planetside. Then you pay for the game (20$ - gametime is included).
Then login to the launcher (you can download it from the Planetside site) and it will begin downloading the game.

Yeah all you have to do is download the launcher and sub.
There's a sticky for this exact question, why do so many people make threads on it anyway?
