Thought we should compile a post of when gaming websites have scheduled in their coverage of PlanteSide 2 at E3 so we can hop from one live stream to another! :p
So far, IGN have said they'll live stream PS2 at 3:00pm on Thursday, June 7.
This could be a PS2 presentation or IGN exclusive interview/game stream. Not really sure.
But if you know when any other sites will be covering E3, post below and I'll update this post.
MONDAY, JUNE 4

Yeah, the Microsoft conferrence was pretty mediocre overall. The new Splinter Cell and Halo looked pretty cool but otherwise nothing that got me excited. I'm not sure what there great plan is with delivering cable television programming to the Xbox is since, you know, it's already hooked up to a TV where most people can already watch the same thing without a console.
But back on topic. I kind of doubt there'll be anything big about Planetside 2 at the Sony show. It's pretty much limited to consoles at press conferences nowadays. If they were announcing a new console, however, I wouldn't be surprised if they were planning on releasing a Planetside game for PS4. A MMOFPS would probably be the easiest kind of MMO to put on consoles but the current hardware is probably too old to support it.

With Sony as a business though in the condition they are in, it would be a great time to get all their videogame products out there to the mass media.
Hell maybe the PS4 will be a revolutionary piece of technology and they could end the show on the note "And this is the kind of game you will see on the PS4..."
Higby enters on the stage with a shaven head and the rest is history.
TB's live stream starts at the same time as the conference. Which means the sever will have the hundreds of people on it to show the big battles.
Hell, in the schedule they did not even have a stream scheduled for today. It just pop up outta the blue.

Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) and Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) are two different business entities. SCE is holding the press conference. SCE makes consoles and console games.
It's not hard. It's also exactly why everybody was saying ahead of time that PS2 wouldn't have any presence at the press conference.

Planetside 2 is only gonna get a Youtube personality as their main way of advertising the game?
Well, actually -- Planetside 2 is going to be spending 4 entire days letting media representatives play their game for themselves.
That's 100% better than spending 10 minutes talking about the game to media representatives up on a stage and then releasing a canned trailer that will get lost in the mix of a hundred game trailers released around this time.
Instead, they send those media reps home with hands-on experiences and awesome memories of the most unbelievably unique battle they actually played in. And those media reps write stories, and record podcasts and video blogs telling their viewers how awesome it was.
So instead of sending the media away with the same story, they're seeding the media with dozens, hundreds of individual stories to tell, custom tailored to their own audiences.
Sony Online Entertainment isn't putting 1 awesome Higby on the stage to tell the world about Planetside 2. It's putting hundreds of media personalities and reporters on scores of stages to tell the world about Planetside 2 over the coming months. That's press you can't buy with a CGI trailer announcement.
Ever hear of Agent buddy?

no, its the other way around. if you're not on the stage you don't exist.
Like every other convention, on Tuesday and Wednesday folks visit the booths that wow'd them on Monday.
E3 started as an electronics expo and still the hardware drives the show, but everyone knows its the games that have stolen the show over the last few years. Last year BF introduced BF3 on stage, 2 years ago, PS introduced MAG etc...
I know a lot of people who watch these announcements on various sites and their takeaway is what they're going to play this year.

It would be nice if Sony and Microsoft and Nintendo stopped pretending that people enjoy motion controls and only consoles and started giving some PC spotlight. PC is where the real fans are. Console games are more casual, and thus less loyal to the companies. I think the Big 3 should stop pretending that PC gaming is dead. Diablo 3 sold 6,500,000 in one week. PC gaming must be dead.

And look at how much people talk about MAG now, huh? That E3 stage exposure really helped it out, and people bought it and tried it thanks to the promises and canned footage they saw there.
No, they didn't, because the instant anybody got their hands on it, they realised it couldn't deliver, and word like that spreads.
The entire point of SOE's presence on the floor is to take advantage of that effect. Because they know that PS2 DOES deliver, and that word will spread, too.
Aren't the conferences pretty much just console war turf?
Yes, but apparently some around here don't really get that. As for the SWG example -- it's a matter of changing attitudes towards the conferences, not the relative merit or potential of the games.
When SWG was released, PC Gaming was bigger than console gaming, and Microsoft wasn't even on the scene driving the console focus harder and harder.

I honestly think people don't realize what type of impact this has on the world.
Most of the general public only see the press conference, and end up thinking that those are the only big titles this year.
And not only do development teams suffer for it, so do the players of their games.
And it really pisses me off.
Edit: Which basically means again, the crappiest game will be the game of the year. Again.

This doesn't match the impression I get.
"Most of the general public" certainly doesn't watch 9 hours of video of the conferences. The general public reads reports ON the conference, sure, or watches some reporter's compilation of highlight clips from it.
But the point here is -- most people are reading *reports* on E3.
So if your experience suggests that floor booths don't get media coverage, it's because they don't wow the reporters the way the conferences do.
I can't think of a better way to wow reporters *anywhere* than to get them involved and playing a new experience they've never seen before.

The gameplay demo was overlong and awkward, but Woderbook is the most innovative thing I've seen so far at E3. As an educational and interactive tool for youngsters, it has a lot of promise. If I was 10, I'd be dying to get my hands on that Book of Spells. Hell, even now I'd prefer that over Grind of War 4.
That being said, I do wish PS2 got some screen time, but the show's far from over yet. It'll be the hands-on experience that will garner PS2 its praise.

My fault on the SWG reference. It wasn't made to say "hey, this game got coverage, why can't other SOE products?", it was meant to be directed at Kurtz to get him to calm down a little and think about the relationship between SOE and SCE. I messed up by not quoting him so my post had no context.
However, Kurtz did make a somewhat good point. Just because that's the way things have always been, doesn't mean that they way it should continue to be.
Nintendo, for example, happily showcases products made by multiple development/publisher sources. Sony should honestly consider getting their major subsideries into their conference package, just as a means to direct people to their booth.
SOE does not have enough product to advertise to put out anything like Ubisoft has done this year. They honestly cannot even consider taking stage space to push a single product on their own. So they are going to be confined to their booth. No choice in the matter other than Uncle SCE giving them a little boost.
Let's just be thankful that Planetside 2 has pride of place at the SOE booth.

Sony does this, too, as does Microsoft, when they're able to snag 3rd party exclusives. Because the presentations are all about pimping the console hardware and handheld, and have been for pretty much the last decade.
Square, for instance, is a non-Sony development house/publisher, yet, the latest FF always gets time at E3s on the Sony stage, because they're Playstation exclusives.

This, I watched the entire sony press release thingy and I can say I was not impressed by anything they had to offer and people seem to think it was the best press release I mean come on a MMOFPS how awesome is that it's all multi-player. Most of the games showcased this year focused on the single-player aspect which is good but people want more multi-player and this gives it to them. This would have been amazing. But you showcase things like COD. God this pisses me off.

Just 10 mins of Higby being interviewed and showing off the game. No new information. I wished it was longer than 10 mins though... :(

The IGN stream did have further confirmation of Beta starting in the next few weeks as well as them aiming for a 2012 release!
Great stream. I feel like whenever most of the devs talk about the game they miss some important points about the scale and the spread of players over the large open world and it worries me that people will see it as either a clusterfuck or a smaller scale game than it actually is.
Higby always gets it right though, he touched on everything I thought he should have said and explained it well. I hope people see it and see the graphics and have enough imagination to see what is possible!
ALSO: The IGN streams are put up as recorded VOD's like 45 mins or so after they air so if you missed it It should be up within the hour.
