View Full Version : Who's gonna buy stuff in Planetside MarketPlace
Dreamcast

I know the whole marketplace is still sort of a mystery but we kind of know where is heading....LoL type model skins and XP boost which is great IMO.
Most of us here are Planetside Vets so Im wondering if you guys already made up ur minds in buying things to support Planetside 2.
Is kind of weird because I never spend money on free games...Havn't spend a $ on League of Legends and I play that game way too much but with Planetside 2 is different....I want to buy some skins already just to support the game. I probably won't spend much tho unless the skins are awesome.
So are you guys planning on buying stuff already or do u think boosters and skins are meaningless.....or just simply waiting for beta to see if this game is worth supporting?

I'll be buying up all the camo patterns along with any of the classic skins from PS1. So I'll be doing my part to support the game.

The Camo's looked pretty neat...Im hoping for a solid black TR skin with some red that looks badass....I will buy that for sure.

I think the only time i'd fancy getting a booster in game is if I was going through with a group of friends and fell behind on their schedule. Generally Id feel a bit odd using one.
Though in PS that restriction of content for those that fall behind wouldn't be there in the same way. So I think for me it would only ever be skins and any other goodies they dream up. :)

Don't know about boosters... feels a bit like cheating to me.
The camo patterns looks pretty neat. I'm most certainly gonna buy some of these.
For additional stuff... gotta wait and look what's there first.
I also feel like I should buy something at least to support the devs for the great work they're doing.

I voted "not sure, have to see if selection is worth buying".
As of right now, all I know that they're selling is XP boosters, camos and weapons if you don't feel like unlocking them normally. I can say that based on that alone I would most likely not purchase anything, unless it's a really cool looking camo, otherwise any of that stuff is unnecessary to me.
I hope they'll put out a lot more interesting things than what they've mentioned so far. I really want to support the game any way I can, but I just can't see myself buying most of the stuff unless it's amazingly cool.
EDIT: One thing I'd be willing to pay for would classic PS1 skins, as mentioned in other threads.

If I find the game enjoyable I will definitely buy something every now and then simply to reward the devs and support the game. What exactly I will spend it on isn't that important and I will choose something to my liking. I could easily however do without any extra skins and boosters so they won't be the primary reasons for paying rather thing I mentioned earlier.

I'm probably going to by some skins so I feel that I've contributed something to the game. I most likely won't by any boosters unless I end up very far behind my friends or the players in my outfit if I join one.
If they did they a Space Marine or Imperial Guard skin I'd buy that 100 times over :D.

what do you consider interesting besides PS1 skins?
I really don't know. I try to make a point in avoiding spending actual money on virtual items that do nothing at all. Always felt like a waste of money to me (TF2 hats anyone?)
It would have to be something amazing to tickle my fancy and sway me into purchasing said item. Hell, even with the PS1 skins I'm still weary of purchasing them based on how much the price may be.
Maybe I'm just stingy with money

Hm, I expect to pay some initial costs of $20 maybe and be done with it for a while... I always like to be a normal grunt in war games. :P
But who knows... maybe they'll offer stuff I long to have when time comes.

Game is F2P, imho it's fantastic that companies have started doing this because it effectively translates to a 'try before you buy' method.
This means that, if I love it, I would feel bad if I didn't spend as much money supporting the devs as I would buying a PC-game for the standard price, and therefore if I do enjoy it I will definitely be spending money in the store, probably on weapons etc. But also FTW Mosquito transfers. If... IF I like the game, and they don't go too far towards BF3 with the mechanics, then I'll probably spend $60 to $70. A bit less than I'd normally pay for a good game.
If this feels like BF3 with lots of people, then I'm not paying a cent. Already wasted my money on BF3, and I won't waste more on a clone.

Quite honestly depends on the price. I'm not going anywhere near any skin if it costs $5 or more, because honestly I can go buy an indie game or a pack of indie games for that price and have a lot more fun than with the idea that people are looking at my l33t skinz. It would be more worth it to me if I could go 3rd person and check myself out.

But you have to realize that you get the base game for free, which you don't do for indie games. You are probably gonna play Planetside 200 times more than you will of those indie games without paying a single dime for it.
That is why you shouldn't be afraid to put even that more than 5$ on a skin, cos the game itself was free for you.
I don't think about the price of a single item. I have, for example, played APB for nearly 2000 hours combined. Also combined I've paid ~160€ for the game. The prices on APB cash shop are quite steep, even 40-50€ for a permanent weapon. It's steep, but I don't mind, cos the game has already provided me close to 2000 hours of entertainment, I want to return the favour.
That said, I closely observe the amount of money I put into the game. I don't mind putting in 50€ for that one gun if I want it, then I just don't buy anything for a few months to even out the "13€/month" rule I try to sport.

I definitely want to support this game and I will try and spend what I can. Unfortunately real life prevents me from spending a lot but I do hope to buy something just to support the game.
On a side note, I think the skins do serve more than just an aesthetic purpose. The zebra skin we saw, for example, would make good camo in a snowy environment. It might not be much but it might give you that one extra second you need to get the kill or get out of there.

IF you love it you'll spend LESS than you would normally for a good game? I don't get that logic...
This is F2P so the devs RELY on people conducting microtransactions. If you love the game and actively make the decision to spend very little money in it, imho you're actively contributing to a problem that affects the longevity of the game and will only get worse (for the life of the game) over time...

I have to admit that, knowing I spent tons of € on League of Legends skins, I will most likely be spending cash in the PS2 shop as well. I somehow got 'addicted' to the cool looks skins give to champions, and I'm thinking the PS2 cash shop will offer similar cool 'fluff'.
Having said that, I am almost certain I won't be buying any boosters. I think the rate at which you earn cert points won't be too steep, but I'll have to experience that hands on ofc. It also feels a bit like I'm cheating myself, in a way.

If PS1's VS Rexo is available I'll buy it. I also plan on buying a couple of custom mostly black skins for night ops and possibly a few camo patterns for the different ecospheres (jungle, desert, arctic - depending on how well they're done), both for my vehicles as well as myself.
There will probably be a few vehicle and weapon sidegrades that I'll flat out buy depending on how the default weapon(s) handle and what specific changes said sidegrades make. It really depends on how well-matched the default VS equipment is to my preferred playstyles.
Other things depend on a lot of variables like in-game benefits, price and acquisition times, etc. Based on that I might consider things like XP boosters or in-game consumables (nades, medkits, implants) every now and then.

Skins for armour and weapons
Likely to budget a yearly amount equivalent to £15 per month, depending on the prosat deal and how SOE treat the European part of their customer base.

If they're willing to sell a bunny hat and a camo pettern with carrot prints on it, well then I will buy one....

I wanna buy stuff for this game to support its future. If they do this right I want to see what's next. Works of art are works of art. That they are making it f2p is just awesome tho.

I plan to, thou not insanely Like i must own EVERYTHING!
Thou that does lead me to wonder, do some of these items carry over to all class/empires?
Like the bulk look I saw could be fitted to both Max and Trooper alike.

You didn't put an option including the possibility of a subscription based service.
I personally don't like the idea of boosters. I'd rather pay a flat monthly fee and get somewhere close to the acute bonuses I assume they'd give.

So are you guys planning on buying stuff already or do u think boosters and skins are meaningless.....or just simply waiting for beta to see if this game is worth supporting?
I'll be buying all kindsa shit. I'm getting my daughter and I, a gold plated Beamer for damn sure, just for fucking because... Then camo, etc.

I went into world of tanks thinking I would only ever buy premium, but I ended up buying about 3 premium tanks.
I think it depends on whether or not you can build up some marketplace currency by just playing the game and winning tournaments, like you do in world of tanks. Otherwise I would probably just pick up my monthly booster pack, maybe the occasional skin I have marketplace currency left over from that.

I NEED A CYLON RAIDER SKIN FOR MY SCYTHE!!! No joke, I would happily pay a monthly subscription just to be able to fly one in a decent game (that BSG:O game was a let-down), you could even just about get away with putting a Viper skin on the Mosquito (or at least similar colours).

I am hoping for a subscriber model. So that you can subscribe for a monthly fee and get permanent XP boosters. I would totally pay for that. :)

I'm hoping for a subscriber model too.
But if there isn't one, i'll aim to spend about a tenner a month on PS2.

Those 'CoD and BF tards' are going to be making up the brunt of your population and will be the ones making sure PS2 doesn't wither and die like PS1 eventually did.
exactly, because they are catering to them

exactly, because they are catering to them
You wouldn't have large scale combat if they did, trust me. "They" don't like traveling, they like instant action, 24/7.
Even the BF3 maps were to large for that crowd, just sayin' ;)
There a fine margin between catering to the PS vets, and the CoD-crowd. There is something inbetween there. It's about creating a larger community. PS was pretty much underground...
And you NEED that community for a game like this to survive. So suck it up... :)

I fully intend to support this game financially. I typically keep at least one game subscription active to make sure i always have it. It is like my cellphone bill. If it is a regular bill the wife can't complain too much :)

I will def. buy boosters because I work a lot and dont really have that much time like I used to. I will also buy some skins if I like them, we will see about that.
As long as the F2P concept is not exploited by SOE I am going to continue to put money in this game. With exploited I mean F2P like in APB for example, where you can buy weapons that are waaay stronger than everything you can unlock for free. Money should buy you time in F2P, not power. And I definitely wanna support a good game that is different from the rest!

Like anything else, I'll buy what I enjoy.
I've purchased in EQII... hmm... $10 Siliver membership, a $20 mount, $15 in race unlocks, and some vendor tokens (to sell things). And in FreeRealms, I bought my kids a $35 life time membership, $4.50 a rainbow unicorn (sad and true...), a $3 sprinker and a $3 scarecrow. When you factor in that I've been playing EQII and the kids have been playing FreeRealms for over a year, that's not a lot of money, but it's more than the nothing I would have otherwise spent by not playing the games at all.
Free to play and a streaming client remove the barrier to entry: You get the notion to play? Well, do it! That's a good thing. Then, like anything else, if you see something you like chances are you'll consider buying it. If it feels worth while to you, then you'll actually buy it.
I am sure there will be some vehicle and personal mods that I'll buy. I absolutely WILL buy new ship chassis (visually different, statistically the same as others of their type) if they offer them, because variety is the spice of life!
Basically yes, if they make things I like, I will buy those things. Why wouldn't I?

They should look at Vindictus, I ended up buying a tonne of stuff there without any intention of buying anything when I first started playing.

Depends on the items and the pricing scheme.
If the free/paid currency ratio is crap i'll probably get annoyed then quit.
If they overcharge i'll not buy anything.
If they get it right i'll be looking for double station cash weekends like a hawk and will regularly drop money into the company coffers.
OFC its all dependant on the game crossing the relase line intact and unmutilated.
