For someone who does not know the little details about processors, how do the Intel processors stack up for gaming, and Planetside 2?

Right now, I have a computer that is a few months old, because my old one kicked it in. It has an i3 processor, and works fantastic for me. It is capable of going up to an i7, and run two raedon graphics cards. It's called... Crossfire Motherboard [P8Z68V-LX]

I was planning on upgrading to an i5 when PS2 comes out, but is it really neccesary? My old computer was one of the old Intel duel cores, and it was fine for several years.

Do I really need to upgrade, or should I stick with the i3 and save some money? I do not need the most detailed and awesome graphics or anything like that. Its more about, will the i3 bog down with so many players on screen at once? My graphics card is a Raedon HD6770.

The i3 2100 is actually a great CPU. You will only notice a boost if PS2 makes use of four cores to be honest. At this point I would be more worried about your GPU. Replace that first then then CPU if it proves to be worthwhile.

Nobody fucking knows how PS2 is going to perform except the people working on it right now.

Just wait and find out.

Going off of what has been stated by SoE, PS2 will run on a computer that is 4-5 years old. The i3 is far more powerful than a high-end 2007 CPU.

If all you care about is having smooth gameplay, and not how pretty the foliage looks, you'll be fine.
