From the "Rewards" section, it says that (in legal jargon) you will receive the rewards upon the launch of the game.

One of the rewards is Tickets to SOE LIVE.

Therefore, according to the fine print, in order for the rewards to be worthwhile for consideration of said competition; the game must launch prior to October 18th.

If little wishful thinking there methinks. ;)

Ofc it could happen like that, but perhaps not.

Not to be a pessimist, but it doesnt actually mean its going to launch then. Just that event is then and you better invite 50 friends before then.

Don't they run SOE live on a annual basis?

If none of their terms change, it would be in violation of their agreement to not give a prize for something that is relevant. Of course, they do allow their terms and conditions to be changed at any time; however, It is more than reasonable to assume they would not place a prize up unless they were relatively certain it would be there for proper consideration.

It also specifies this years SOE Live.

Good catch, that means beta is sooner than we might have thought.

Lawyers leak the Planetside 2 launch date. News at '11

depends, can they release 2 more continents in 4 months. I'd expect those might take months, though dunno if they've allready started on amerish.

Hamma said he saw some of it, yeah.

And I'd hope it doesn't take 2 months per continent.

I don't think it works like that. Lawyers always give themselves a loophole. But a man can always dream.

That would be great, every other aspect in the game atleast looks "done" as in its in the game, just needs balancing and bug fixing. (unless I'm forgetting something)

i heard they were shooting for 12/12/12 release date, but they also said they would be in no hurry to get out of beta. id say your looking at early 2013

You could potentially complete every single mission on the app for tier 3 free tickets without even setting foot in game. Depends on what the 3 secret missions are.

While the logic is safe and sound, sorry guys, not gonna happen.

You will not see Planetside 2 within 2012. Why? Let me tell you:

First of all, beta wont come this month. I hope we get a date at E3 now, but it wont be starting this month. They still have stuff to fix up and get ready. They simply arent quite there yet.

Then, from all i have heard so far from Higby, T, Smed and other people at SOE, they dont even have a release date yet. They release when beta is done, and they have no way of knowing when beta is done until the game is actually deep within beta. The game needs to go into open beta when it is ready, and no moment sooner. They dont know when it will be ready, and they have no reason to rush things, as SOE got the cash to keep PS2 in beta for quite a while, and they also know that rushing things does more damage than good.

If we are extremly lucky, then the game goes live in december. But i dont see that coming, i see it early 2013.

btw, yes, SOe live is every year. ;)

I think they are in what we would call "Crunch mode". The end of said crunch mode is usually the time when the developer polishes the game and sorts out the logistical stuff.

I have no idea how far they are in crunch.

Speaking from experience, bug fixing only takes a month or two (maximum of four months for AAA titles). It also irrelevant to say that there is a bug fixing 'time period' laid out, because throughout all stages of development bugs are being fixed. You must also remember that they will not fix ALL the bugs they can find before starting the beta test. And, it's very probable that when beta launches only one continent will be available with the other 3 progressively being added as beta goes on. Depending on the state of the demo at E3, it is entirely possible that we'll see a demo this or next month and then release late 2012 or early 2013. An October launch date also makes sense, BUT don't forget that most speculative release dates are always delayed and pushed back.

In my opinion this is the most tangible and practical evidence we have had of a release date so far.

I'm not sure I can think of anything else that isn't an "opinion" that would give credence to any other argument.

And I'd hope it doesn't take 2 months per continent.

It takes a lot longer than two months to handcraft 64 sq. kilometers of game world.

For the most part gameplay is complete. During the totalbiscuit stream Higby said the team was working nonstop to fix the bugs before E3. I am sure they caught most of the big ones, and they will probably spend this month getting every last bug. Therefore the beta can be really soon.

I hope they haven't decided to rush the game because of the heavy anticipation. They should take their time and polish every feature availible. Closed beta could begin On October 18th. Iv'e been in too many rushed mmos to let my need for launch get ahead of itself.

This thing is going the way of vaporware if no beta/release date is announced at e3.

... a game with as much unedited play-footage as we've seen is pretty much the antithesis of vaporware.

SOE has been creating a wave of media attention and anticipation in the last month, cresting right now at E3. A very big announcement will happen at the end of E3 once the maximum amount of attention has been drawn to PS2. To not do so would be a huge waste of potential, since I think it would be very difficult to maintain enthusiasm like we have right now for very long after E3.
