Matt Higby, Planetside 2′s creative director starts to talk us through a live demo of the game. It’s a beautiful, first-person MMO that Higby told us last year would be impossible to make on any of the current consoles. It looks like this.

He works for Sony Online Entertainment, but his game puts the Sony conference to shame. Jack Tretton starts to cry, drops his Move controller to the floor, and runs from the room.

I'm with ya on some parts of the trailer. I loved the music and vehicle gameplay but the animations were lacking for the infantry. The running animations specifically. Having players standing around shooting each other at close range is not something I would think to be 'trailer worthy'. It's not representative of what the game will be like. The NC MAX animations seem strange too. I understand they are trying to convey its weight and how difficult it is to move but it just looked strange.

Anyway, I'll just give my opinion then.

I just thought the trailer was pretty lame (don't jump to my throat already).

So... Here I go, and I'm already preparing myself for the bashing I might get in return :lol:

The voices: acting pretty badly and saying shallow things. I think it'd have been much better without them.

The action itself: most of the ground action they showed is just guys standing there, firing.
Seriously? We waited that long to have something they already had in the very first trailer? Couldn't we have had some ground assaults? Guys running and pushing, with other guys or AirCav covering them?
I don't know, just something that doesn't make the game look like a first person tower defense.

It would have been good to have more explainations of the differences between the factions (in term of gameplay, too), beside the obvious skins and the voices. But that can be done later, so alright.

Also, I found it badly edited, badly done. It doesn't look like a 2012 game trailer. Just compare it to Shootmania Storm's first trailer (http://youtu.be/pHOuJe1js_I?hd=1), I know it isn't the same scale or the same kind of FPS, but at least they made it right and interesting to watch for someone who never heard of the game before.
If I wasn't a Planetside fan, that I never heard of the game before, and watched this, I would have been so bored I'd have left about halfway through the video.


Anyway, in the end I really feel that this trailer isn't as good as it could have been.
It really just looks like a giant clusterfuck to me.
I'll be very honest, I think this trailer isn't going to do any good to Planetside 2, and so I hope the 3 live demos will really deliver.

I'd have to agree with the others who say this is a really poor trailer. It doesn't dampen my enthusiasm for the game at all because I've seen the actual gameplay but this would make for a poor first impression. The animations are pretty awful currently, the running is just poor quality. I hope they get polished up much, much more. I know it always comes out looking goofy with staged moments like these so I'm willing to forgive that.

I did however LOVE the music, and the general sense of epicness. Hell, I even dig the tag line, just enough tongue in cheek. Sorry I can't be 100% fanboy but it's mostly because I want it to succeed so much. :D

Something of note: Vanu and NC engi turrets were shown in this vid, and appear to be identical except for the shield. The shield does appear to be unique per faction, and not just different colors. The NC shield also looked wider than the Vanu one. Maybe a cert spec?

Anyone else think the stompiness of the NC MAX is a bit overdone? It kinda looks like it was moving slower and then they fast-forwarded it.

This trailer reminds me of the first one with more variety i.e. MAX units and heavy assault. There isn't much substance beyond establishing that it is a first person shooter with air vehicles, tanks, and mechanized armor suits between three factions. The voice-overs could have been done better (would have preferred WE instead of I) but they get the point across and everything looks good enough to grab your attention. It might just be my past experiences creating bias but this battle seems somewhat flat/staged in terms of scale and when compared to the fluidity of an actual battle. Too many infantry and ground vehicles not moving all at once. It is probably difficult to portray the experience in a trailer but I would recommend that the feature you guys are building in to capture video and upload directly to YouTube be routed to SOE during Beta so that we can constantly feed the marketing machine, could also be a good tool for identifying and submitting bug reports.

The music is superb, gives me goosebumps every time I re-watch.

I'm happy to see any and all gameplay footage but RAWR I WANT MORE STREAMING TIME! :D

Man... I have to say, the Vanu look absolutely stunning. For the past few weeks, I was a little underwhelmed with how the Vanu MAX looked compared to the TR and NC MAXes (because the TR and NC MAXes look beautiful), but in this trailer, I see more clearly that the Vanu MAXes are every bit as fantastic as their counterparts.

Took the words from my mouth , the footage was good ,albeit a bit robotic .But man, the voices just full of cheesy ham.Maybe its aimed at a younger audience or something.

Love Planetside and hope to love Planetside 2. Planetside for me is one of the best games I have ever played.

The trailer was meh. I agree with some of the others here, if I didn't already know about Planetside this wouldn't have drawn me in. I do hope SOE is able to put together something better before beta/launch.

At least a F2P game doesn't completely rely on a trailer to get you to throw down money before you play it. That was one of the biggest reasons PS1 didn't take off at that time. People did not want to pay to play a FPS game.

Whatever the case I still have huge hopes for the game. I have an itch that needs scratchin' and I believe Planetside 2 is my only option.

Cinematic trailers are cool and all, but they don't mean fuck all about the game. For example, Dead Island had one of the best cinematic trailers I've ever seen, too bad the game sucked.

I love cinematics as much as anyone, but I'd rather see gameplay.
