You don't need anymore outside time after a week at the shore anyways.

beta will be getting up soon. Sounds exciting. I doubt my computer can play it, but I'm hoping for it to skid passed min settings.

Also he said #Planetside2 instead of @Planetside2 for the twitter.

Classes end next week for me. PS2 over the summer would be sick. I'm doing a couple of summer courses so my course load will be lighter this fall, but I should still have plenty of time to frag if I get into the beta.

awesome interview and glad the mic was working perfectly versus the interview that Higby did for gamespot. http://e3.gamespot.com/live-show/live-show-day-1/ around 4 hours and 5 minutes in to that link. Also approve of the VS dogtag versus anything NC, TR will crush both but I always enjoy destroying the rebels more than the barneys.

Wow with that many things in the SOE app already, I guess I'm not too crazy for gearing up to make a "Dangerous Places to Fly" app that shows the locations where people are most likely to slam into the ground, trees, etc. I mean, what else ISN'T in the SOE app? lol...

Nice to hear some more about that. Props to Dan Kinney and the gang for their work on the Data API.

So what's the order in Beta priority? I'd like this cleared up once and for all;
Is it : PS1>PCmag/Giveaway>signup

or is it something else?

This please. I was under the impression that's what SOE said, no? I mean, I have a PC Gamer key as well but I'd much rather log in with my "PS Veteran" key. Seems more appropriate.

I'm seeing a lot of the same panic and assumption from the last time keys were handed out so I'll use the same response. Former PS1 players will be brought in as some of the earliest testers. That means all of them. If you fit in that category you shouldn't be worried about getting a key.

2012-06-05, 09:35 PM
It will be gradual no matter who gets first priority, so people who are vets will not be in the second someone else is but this is just to allow for a stable launch of the beta. You can't just switch on something like that without a limit on invites that go out. I assume they will target a couple thousand every couple days to ramp it up. It is much easier to service a couple thousand who might have issues then let half a million in all at once.

Also, paying for another game doesn't mean they owe you first dibs at this game. If they did that then they would have to invite millions with the very first wave, better to just relax and understand that they're very transparent and love this community. I'm hoping Mr.Higby records his hair getting trimmed as the official start of beta.

Ah next few weeks, finally.
Now the wait to actually get into it.

KnightHawk ECID
2012-06-05, 10:05 PM
A few weeks, hmm lets go deeper shall we?

The definition of a few:
a quantifier that can be used with count nouns and is often preceded by `a'; a small but indefinite number; "a few weeks ago"; "a few more wagons than usual"; "an invalid's pleasures are few and far between"; "few roses were still blooming"; "few women have led troops in battle"

So what does this mean, well;

Single<Couple<Few<Several, or;
(1) < (2) < (3) < (4+)

So today is the 5th of June, 2012, add 21 days and we get:

June 26th, 2012. This might sound off so we'll go deeper, add as weeks;

June 5th is in the second week of june, add three weeks and we get:

June 24 - 30, 2012. But most game releases (this is a download release) happen on tuesdays, so the Beta date is:

June 26th, 2012

You heard it hear first folks!:groovy:

Based on this comment, I am concluding you didn't actually play the first game...

You are correct, legally they don't owe anything, morally, however, they do.. The agreement was supposed to be, we give them $15 every month, and we get a continually supported and developed game. Support has been minimal and development non existent for the last few years. I think the last time the game received an actual update was in 2009.

Now to me, and clearly many others, that warrants at the very least, priority access to the beta. That doesn't mean guaranteed access... just priority access. It's just a little something to acknowledge our presence. Also, really, who better to do the early beta testing, than the players who stuck around during the hardships of the first game?? They are the ones with a much deeper commitment to the game.

All are priority but a DEV quote from another thread that I will present soon stated quite clearly that PS1 vets will be "asome of the earliest". Given the level of care taken in presentation, my guess is that "the first" to play were the E3 attendees and those in Alpha.

I'm seeing a lot of the same panic and assumption from the last time keys were handed out so I'll use the same response. Former PS1 players will be brought in as some of the earliest testers. That means all of them. If you fit in that category you shouldn't be worried about getting a key.

It will be interesting how they let people in the beta. They gave what appears to be a ton of beta keys and unless there game is amazingly stable its going to take some time to get going. I feel no matter what they do, there will be much backlash from the community as everyone can't get in at once.

Are people really concerned about getting into beta? Like you actually think you won't get into it? Assuming you didn't sign up for beta like 5 minutes ago, the game is going to need a huge dose of players to effectively stress test the servers and balance everything accordingly. If they're only letting 100 or so people play at a time how at all would that effectively test anything in a game meant for thousands.

Oh wait this is SOE

Also, I wonder how long a "selection" of players will be allowed to play in an invitational beta. I've never been in an invitational or closed beta so I'm not exactly sure how it works. I've heard of certain betas where once you get it in you're sort of in for good, even after they keep inviting new waves of players.

The only question I have about beta is, will there be multiple beta servers and by that I mean for beta in NA under SOE and for Europe under Pro7?

The only question I have about beta is, will there be multiple beta servers and by that I mean for beta in NA under SOE and for Europe under Pro7?

I was thinking that, too.

This is all completely my own speculation, but it would make sense for them to test specific parts of the code a bit at a time, with large (not huge) amounts of people for the first month or three, then the last month or few weeks or is when they'll try to do the real stress testing.

Servers that have localization issues would logically not be exactly the same as the base model so it's possible that there will be regional beta stuff for them, too. Also it's likely that they will want to have multiple servers to test things on to see better see if a problem can be recreated on both of them in the same situations.

However I just do not think it's likely that it'll be done that way and if it does it'll be near the end of the testing phases.

By the way, when I read about Beta Soon (tm) I had to go do 20 push ups and some squats to keep myself from running around the block in my underpants screaming at the top of my lungs.

(only got to 18 push ups :( )

Can’t say I’m overly concerned with who does and who does not get in. Some of us are past PS1 vets, and some are current, so whether it be (“DEV”, “TEST”, “QA”, “Sandbox”, or “Production”) one way or another eventually, we’ll “ALL” play again.

That being said, not a day goes by that I don’t check the inbox, “just incase”.

Nope.

I'm pretty sure it's gonna be on american servers only.

Saw that a while back, I think it was on the Pro7 thread on these forums.
