View Full Version : The one thing I've seen that worries me at all...

I know there's a lot of speculation going on, and too much naysaying for my taste, and yes BETA BETA BETA, I know, but one thing bothers me.

Friendly soldiers no-clipping through each other. Maybe I'm seeing things, or maybe it's another convenience feature for the E3 build, but this worries me. If friendlies can share the same physical space, it completely changes the use of choke points, allows whole squads to hide in one spot, etc.

I would LOVE to be told I'm incorrect.

If you all stack ontop of each other you'll murder each other.

Or one grenade will kill all of you.

I'm pretty sure I only ever noticed clipping in spawn rooms

I truly believe, and someone may correct me, but the netcode and sheer programming required to actually pull that off on a "Massive" scale would make the game unplayable. "Maybe" Forgelight has that power under its hood, and maybe its something that will be adjusted, but seems like a stretch.

That's quite possible, and that would be a relief.

If they can calculate bullet drop, volumetric clouds casting shadows, and keep the tanks and jets from passing through each other, they can do the same for players. If they don't, it's a choice.

I'm confused what the OP is concerned about, as it was worded a little strangely.

Are you saying you're concerned that players can't clip through eachother or that they can?

"No-clipping" means you can walk through it (whatever 'it' might be, players, walls, etc...).

i dont see the problem with this, its a free to play game afterall..

perhaps you would prefer if i fire up 3 TR(or whatever empire you play) accounts and block every exit to your spawn room. to get out you would have to kill my maxes, griefing yourself.

Allow no-clip when leaving the spawn room

problem solved

With no-clip on in the battlefield, I foresee a lot of "my teammate just walked through me and into my bullets, now he's dead and my weapon is locked".

THAT is a great point exile.

The only things that have me worried so far are:

The continents might as well be on separate servers since they won't interact

The lack of overall depth in play

solves a major problem i had with F2P if it remains like this. like has been said, you have no idea just how crafty people can be. There is a reason WoW does this, and a very good one at that. this is not a bad thing.

There is also that, though the problem with any griefing prevention tactic you need to keep in mind that it can and will be used both ways if at all possible.

I can't believe someone actually said such a stupid thing!

The clipping is the most ugliest thing ever in every computer game ever, always wrecking the visual integrity and physicality of the gameworld and this guys is complaining that there is no clipping?!

Jesus imaginary christ on a stick!

And he would even downgrade the gameplay element by having it exist because people would be...you know...solid physical objects and you would have to use actual tactics of the physical world?!

Well, I can only say that I sincerely hope that if players can move through each other, it only happens in the spawn rooms. It would be a welcome feature in the spawn room, but a tragic strategic loss elsewhere.

You are more than welcome to TK any friendlies that are purposely blocking you. I did it all the time in PS1, no regrets. It should only be a rare occasion.

This. Never saw it happen outside spawn rooms, just like PS.

what do you mean the continents dont interact? if you are talking about the absense of cont locking, then i dont see how this affects interactivity between continents.

if you are being pushed back on indar as TR and its obvious the NC are all here and totally whooping you back to you're warpgate, you can decide to invade amerish since it might also have the resource you need ( or one you want to take away from the enemy ) meaning the nc would have to split forces making you able to push back on indar again.
or maybe they would say well screw amerish we dont need it, at wich point the VS might make a play for indar making the NC weaken the attack on the TR.
or maybe the VS will want amerish and you will have to make the call if you want to continue pushing indar or push amerish depending on the situation

i'm sorry but i really dont see how continents could possibly not interact with eachother. wether cont lock is in ps2 or not
