Current PC

Motherboard: EP35C-DS3R
Processor: Q9550
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333
Video Card: Gigabyte 6950
Hard Drives: 3 500GB SATA II Drives
Monitor: Westinghouse 22" 1680x1050
Power Supply: Coolermaster Silent Pro 700W

So that's my current PC. I currently have an old Asus 4850 video card and an e8400 processor. I'll probably sell those for around $175-$200 on my local Craigslist. I was thinking of doing a CPU/Mobo swap and get an i5 3570k and a Z77. I would sell my existing Gigabyte/Processor combo for around $350-$400 probably on CL as well.

I could probably go out and get those upgrades, but then I look at my lonely 22" monitor. The monitor is still going well, but I see that the Planar 27" monitor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824016155) I've had my eye on is around $250.

So now is the issue at hand.

Should I go with my gut, sell my old Video Card/CPU combo for $150-$200 and get the monitor?

OR

Should I wait a bit, sell the four items as a combo deal for around $450?

OR

Do something differently?

catleap q270http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-YAMAKASI-CATLEAP-Q270-SE-27-LED-2560X1440-WQHD-DVI-D-Dual-Computer-Monitor-/140738200221?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item20c4a6829d
its a 27inch ips panel @ 2560x1440 at a similar price as the planar, that planar uses an inferior tn panel. The catleap has a crappy stand but you can mount it to any vesa stand. It uses the same panel as the Dell U2711. I own a Dell U2410 and it is simply amazing compared to other monitors.

I would keep the processor/motherboard combo you have, its still a good cpu. I feel like a gpu upgrade would serve you better. Your monitor seems like its the lowest spec part here.

Xfiring a second 6950 is also an option.

I would upgrade the cpu/mobo and then get the monitor.

Whats the fourth item of the combo?

If you could get all those items for 450 that'd be a good deal...

Cheers,

If you want to upgrade this year I suggest selling everything off now you no longer want. The longer you wait the less money you will get from those old parts. We are still about a year off from Haswell too, so might as well enjoy Ivy Bridge now instead of later.

The 6950 2GB is still a strong card. You would be looking at $350+ to replace to for a GTX 670 or 7950 to replace it for any meaningful upgrade.

Concerning the monitor. I hear good stuff about that Planar 27 inch and that 2560x1440 monitor. The only thing bad about moving up to a resolution that high is the need for a high end card. If you don't plan on dropping down $350+ every few years for a new video card I don't recommend getting that screen. At least with the Planar you still have 1920x1080 and your 6950 won't have really any issue with that screen.
