View Full Version : Player Performance Stats Each Base Cap

Basically I felt that PS1 suffered a lot by not having much to offer on the FPS end of the business. PS2 looks more and more like it's trying to appease the target audience of your average shooter fan. One thing I felt would have been really neat to have in PS1 was to turn a base capture into the equivalent of playing a round in any other shooter. Afterward, stats specific to that battle are available (method of viewing arbitrary) with a full list of participating players, and sorting options for various rankings.
It allows your average player to pop in, cap a base, see what they accomplished, and get on with their day. I just don't see the same appeal for the never ending battle for global domination with stats based solely on total career numbers. Just doesn't have the same meaning and isn't as useful.
I bet the new ticket system would make that a lot easier to define in scripting expressions as to when a battle starts and ends.
Most PS1 players whom I played with would say stats are evil, but honestly they're just numbers and I would try to figure this out on my own back in the day. Just because there wasn't a great GUI interface for it, it didn't mean I wasn't keeping score.
The kind of people they are trying to attract are gonna expect stuff like this as much as they would be expecting an Aim Down Sight mechanic. So if they want it, why not give it to them?

I think that's a horrible idea, if people need to get their stats fix they can just display the stats of a session when someone logs off the game, would be much better than forcing everyone to see a silly scoreboard everytime a base is capped.

You don't have to force it, and the interface is completely arbitrary, can be web based, doesn't matter- you're jumping miles ahead of me.... but if people want to look at those kinds of things, what's the real issue? That they'll care more about numbers and not play the way you want them to?
That's what this sort of thing has always been about- we don't want to people to worry about numbers because then they won't do what is expected of them. People may find better ways to say it, but why should anyone playing a video game do anything besides whatever the hell they want? It's their dime.
I think this would be interesting. Can send tells to the people who died too much ;).

Maybe if it's optional then yeh showing all the stats revolving around a base cap is alright, they might even already have this feature on the stats site.
I just don't like the idea of 'rounds' anywhere near a persistent MMOFPS.
I'd rather not have any immersion breaking scoreboards that trivialise the whole all-out war that this game is trying to convey.

Fair enough. But if you think about it, a base battle really is the equivalent of a round in any other FPS game, and adding some additional scripting to set a separate batch of stats aside for review later wouldn't really be taking anything away.
Put it on the website. Let people see everyone who fought in the battle and how they stacked up against others on their team, against their opponents, in a variety of categories. Let each battle stay for a period of time.
It'd give something people to compete about. It may even help with something SOE was never able to do the first time around; identify who the leaders really ought to be.
If everyone can see it, and they starting the same names at the top of this or that category- they're gonna want to follow those people. Will they not?

Personally I would absolutely hate that. Having a bit pop up when you go to log off would be much better, for everything else there's the app. (If there isn't an app, then someone can make the app)

While personally I don't care for the idea too much I can see how others would like to be given a sense of winning and a stat summery for their actions on a given objective would go a long way in that regard.
I'd suggest having a pop up that occurs on the side of the screen and if you want to see your stats you simply click on it, if you don't you just go about your day and it vanishes after X seconds.
