View Full Version : Debris Collisions

During the stream it was said that devs plan to make debris non collidable.

I am, for one, against it. I want the burning remains to create temporary cover/roadblocks.

I'd like it to be collidable, but so long as its tweaked a bit.
As on the stream I think someone got caught on some debree and couldn't move forward at all.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......hmmmmmmm

Thats a tough call, I think it would be cool to have it all collidable but who knows what it will be like when hundreds of tanks and aircraft, and the 5 or 6 pieces of debris they all spawn, are flying around all over the place. It could potentially clog the gamespace up.

Can't make a decision =) We will have to wait and see

Wish you had put an "not sure" option lol. Honestly I see the appeal of that but couldn't it also be open to abuse?

People might spawn vehicles just to crash them and create blocks.

It may be annoying with 200 vehicles all over the base blocking entrances and walkways. In the video with 10 it isn't so bad. Perhaps set a limit to how many active carcasses there can be and only pieces large enough to take cover behind, some some tiny debris you have no idea you are running into because you didn't look down are annoying.

debris should disappear faster in choke points (like vehicle bays) but otherwise it's awesome to have.

Uggg....

Leave them colideable. For real, how much can you protect the players from themselves?

However! The Sundy should be able to blow right through all of it. *smash*

It will be cool for cover but can you imagine, covering then the debry just diapering lol.

i would like it collidable but engineers should be able to remove them quickly for stuff like bridge battles.

I thought they wanted to make it collide and that it didn't currently. I certainly saw a lot of clipping through debris in the E3 footage.

I definitely want it to cause damage and provide cover.

I'd also like to see aircraft have an intermediary gib between blowing into tiny pieces and being mostly intact. Mostly intact should be when they are barely moving, but if they pick up any speed at all, I'd like to see them come apart into three or four large chunks when destroyed.

I'd also like to see them crash into a big skidding chain of fireballs if they crash at the right angle.

Of course it's still alpha, so there is plenty of time to make these sorts of vehicle destructions look awesome. They certainly will need to add proper weight and physics considerations to the destroyed vehicles so that they don't wobble around unnaturally.

I agree that tiny pieces should both disappear quicker and not be collision objects.

Depends on how much it affects the servers. I could see it being heavy after a large scale fight.

Clarifications, I have good sources.

They said debris WILL be collidable. (day 2 livestream I think)

Falling debris will in fact kill you. (was asked on the day 2 livestream)

They also said debris lasts too long on this build and it's a bug that it doesn't go away as quick as it should. (day 3 livestream)

I love how the debris works. I wouldn't change a thing. I really want to have to dodge debris after the Mossie I just destroyed blows up in front of my Reaver.

I would however maybe scale back the amount of damage slow speed collisions with the environment do. I saw a few times where a tank would slightly ding into a rock at a like 2 mph and then explode. These things arn't Ford Pintos. But that's another topic and I'm sure easily fixable.

I would like it to happen because physics always makes things better.

Maggy said that "you will be able to pass through it" in the end of day3 if I didn't mishear it...

As long as debris disappears relatively fast I'm alright. Wouldn't want a mass suicide tank incident and suddenly every place is blocked for the next 14 minutes.

Debris hazard is an awesome element to immersion.

Wreckage should have hitpoints, so that if it's blocking your path or the enemy is using it for cover, you can eventually destroy it with some sustained fire. A few magazines worth of rifle ammo, or a couple of AV rounds maybe.

Wait, didn't TB say in the Night Ops video that you are going to be able to use debris as cover?

How ist that gonna work if it's noncollision and disappears after 10 seconds?

waldizzo

Burning wreckage should create a temporary barrier that impedes travel.

Thought I heard Maggie say you need to avoid debris since you can collide with it. She mentioned it when some infantry player got stuck on some...

Cheers,

I like this idea.

I think what she said on the stream is that they feel debris is lasting too long. I don't think there was any question on whether or not it will be a solid obstacle. It will be.

I see. Well I hope it lasts long enough to provide decent cover.

One big piece should stay with HP, so you can destroy it with weapons. (Or ram it with sunderer ). The little pieces can deconstruct after a few sec.
