In one video or another, I believe one of the Gamespot ones, Higby mentioned the ability for players to pull data about the game to make their own applications with. Has there been any information about when this data will be available?

I'd like to know because I'm thinking about making some kajigger that shows basically a history of the territorial control of a continent, and the earlier I can get data for it, the better. Ideally I'd have history from the beginning of time (Retail release) to the present, for a full historical overview of how the empires have progressed on a particular continent/server.

Anyone know if more info about this is floating around anywhere?

Not in any one place but here is some info that will help you. Data isn't just live data. You'll be able to grab historical data. I imagine the setup will be that the game servers will near real time feed information into a data warehouse. So even if you take 1 year to develop your app you'll be able to pull the info from the server to show territory control since launch or maybe even before.

The API is using JSON but beyond that I don't expect much until open beta as far as the schema goes.

Also cool. Was it confirmed that there will be a database to access? I only recall seeing mentioned live data, though I could just be remiss in my information gathering.
