View Full Version : Can we bring SporkFire out of retirement?

Does anyone else look at the new community manager and wonder where Spork is? Do we even know if the community manager is an actual person?
I mean it could just be a bot that searches for key words like "beta" and then posts "soon" along with a randomly generated phrase.

I'd like to think old Spork is a desert rat now, shunning society and wearing a tattered old blazer with a blue SOE patch. Maybe living in one of those old Airstream campers in the middle of a barren landscape. Sitting out front in a rickety chair with a bottle of burban.

He watches a speck off in the distance leaving a wall of dust in it's wake as it cuts across the desert. As it turns in his direction he can hear the rising hum of an engine. Spork raises a hand to his brow to block some of the afternoon glare from his eyes. A haze clings around the baking hood of the sunderer stretch limo. He had a feeling they would be coming to see him, but not this soon.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... I remember the day someone made a thread saying sporkfire needed a unique avatar... then someone actually drew in MS Paint a humanized spork with its head on fire, running around, with another mod in the corner (I think). Forumside went crazy in approval.

Anybody still have that pic?

Well, I guess he's not a desert rat after all.

Maybe we could go there and just throw a sack over his head, bag him and go.

If DanB is there too, we'll just say sorry, we only have the one sack.

That image will forever be engraved in my head.

But alas, I did not have the foresight to save that picture and quick Google search showed no results.

What about ol' "BanB" DanB? Surely he'd like to come back and suspend people for swearing again...

Yes hopefully he will be back. Someone will have to ban Godjoey. Again. And this time, it's personal.

Spork was great. Would love to see him around again in any form.

Wow, I actually remember Sporkfire, which is remarkable, most of my old PS1 memories are compressed and take a while to jog out of there nowadays.

Even I remember SporkfirePS, I wasn't even registered then (just came from a way too active forum life on SWG, so didn't feel like getting into a new one), but I've been here lurking from the shadows on and off since I don't know, 2004 or 5 ish.

The Community Managers role becomes much more visible after release.

Sporkfire was indeed one of the best Community Managers I have had the pleasure of knowing. He did some great stuff and worked very closely with us here on PSU. He didn't come around till after PlanetSide beta.

RadarX is also an excellent community manager. He may not post much but he's pretty busy with other things. I have daily interactions with him and sometimes even on weekends. He is very involved and supports PSU as best he can.

So don't start ruling him out just yet - the best is yet to come. ;)

Sporky and Smedlonious Maximus keep in touch. SmokeJumper told me not too long ago he missed being a PS dev, when I asked him if a PlanetSide Extended was possible (before PS2 was even an itch). Wonder if he had any input on PS2.

Its probably no coincidence that a guy whose name is an anagram for CLOCKGEN is pondering a cruel fate of an old CSR.

I was just razzing him a bit. I'm sure he'll do well. Just feeling nostalgic.
