I'm trying to figure out if any wireless repeaters do not cut your total bandwidth in half?! I was kind of wondering if you set the channels differently from send to repeat if that would work. But more importantly are there any variations that just don't have the problem all together somehow? I need to fill in a gap between me and my gateway and moving either is not an option. 8)

I have been looking at these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833180089 Support Access Point, Repeater, WDS, WDS + AP modes 2x5dbi dipole 300mbps max.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833218046 repeater/Ethernet client 3x?? antenna 300mbps max (ugly fucker) No noted Linux support. I'm using Linux.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833704049 AP/Multi-SSID/AP Client/Repeater/ Universal Repeater/Bridge+AP 3x4dbi 300mbps max(What is universal repeater?)
http://www.arrisi.com/products/product.asp?id=36 2x4dbi antenna version of the above.

I'm currently using:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833166073 connecting to:
http://www.arrisi.com/products/product.asp?id=36 but I'm a wee bit too far away to get a good connection. Actually a really weak connection. I usually run at about 50-100 kiB if I'm lucky I'll get 300. Once in a blue Moon I'll get 1miB or the full 2-2.5miB

I'm also planning on it using traffic of just about every kind you can think of. I'm not sure what most of the specs matter so I'm also trying to pick the best one out. Anyone fairly knowledgeable on the specifics of wifi stuff?

BTW my current adapter while active is stating I have a link qaulity of 53/70 and a signal level of -57dBm does that say anything about what I'm having problems with? I also have 202 invalid misc. Not sure what that means yet though.

wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID: **********
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.447 GHz Access Point: ***********
Bit Rate=1 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm
Retry long limit:7 RTS thr=2347 B Fragment thr:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality=55/70 Signal level=-55 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:206 Missed beacon:0

Normally the bit rate is at 300Mb/s but still only dls at around what I stated before.

Could I get a bridge/ universal repeater to receive on one SSID at one channel and send on another SSID back to the WAP/WLAN through a bridged wifi connection? Say channel 1 and channel 11. Or would that still cut the wifi in half?

I bought the TP-link TL-WA901ND (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833704049&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=5414526&SID=skim19668X770041X4f01751dee7347c737ee5840882fc e3c) with universal repeater mode. Trying to find where to place it for the best results. I know it can get me a full Internet DL speed now I just have stability issues which could be from ubuntu drivers.

But, anyway, if anyone is interested it does get the full speed in universal repeater and repeater mode. Or it says it does. Apparently with this model if you run it in 20/40mhz it says it caps at the full 300mbps. where if you run it at only 20mhz it says it caps at 130mbps. so if anyone is looking this one claims to get over the problem with cutting down speeds while using a repeater.

I don't know how to test the in house network so I can't confirm but the device says it pretty bluntly.

BTW. Power over Ethernet kicks butt! 8) I was having problems getting my device high enough and remembered it came with it. So you plug the power adapter or another Ethernet cable hooked to something with power and it acts as an extensions. It's a life saver. 8) Have fully working Internet dl speeds consistently now. go my repeater just high enough. This is a really nice repeater for what I'm using it for. 8)
