So during the stream we got a couple of quick glimpses of the new thermal scope. Personally it was unlike anything I've seen before, but I rather liked how it wasn't just green or black and white as I've seen in other games. I think it will take some getting used to but I like it.
What are your guys' thoughts about the thermal scope?

Keep the low range on it.

Thought it looked great. I wonder how deep you have to go to get it?

Considering all the smoke and flak the game generates, it'll be a popular item.

I missed the end of the second day stream, but I don't think I ever saw it being used at night. Seemed pretty bad in the daylight, which I liked. I kind of want to see how it does at night before passing much judgement either way.
In general I thought it was okay though.

^- this :) As outlined in BF3, it's vital

reminded me of the predator haha!
Very cool, I'd rather have it keep a decent range but lose detail as it gets further away.

I believe we did see it being used at night.. or dusk or something. Regadless, I love this sight! From what I could see, it's basically useless if it's light out, but then it still works when there's a lot of smoke on-screen. And at night it works... like a thermal scope I suppose.. What I do want to know though... is if it works even worse on say, Indar during the days, because of the heat that would be in the air then... but on Esamir, everythings always cold, so there it could be used 24/7..?

No, only way it should have more range is if it is made more realistic, i.e. anything warm shows up on it and fire or other big heatsources make it virtually useless, then it can have higher range.

Cool. I'll have to catch up on any parts I missed.

I might have just been the colour chosen, but it reminded me of a futuristic version of ultra-sound (I've seen newer 3D systems use that colouration).
I do hope they offer a variety in what you can use, particularly making use of different technologies with differing attributes.

With the fact that night is actually dark, I love the thermal scope. Useless during the day, but one of the only ways to actually see the enemy during night. :D

I'd hope to see it work that way in general. I don't think it needs to have a huge range, but atleast something you can work with. Maybe just at night let it have a more decent range since a lot of people will use it anyway.

During the third E3 stream, TB mentioned that the IR wasn't very useful during the day, especially on a desert continent like Indar.
Makes me wonder what it will look like when used on a cold continent like Esamir.

I think its a great concept, and lends itself to upgrades that counter the technology. IE: Thermal Masking tech for vehicles or Thermal Mesh for armor to make soldiers and vehicles less visible when viewed through a thermal imaging system.
I'd further suggest they consider giving vehicles some form of thermal image filtering option. Give those Reavers masking behind the hills an easier time spotting infantry and vehicles from range while they plan their strafing run. ;)

No, that's exactly the reason why the current short range should stay, so that NOT everyone uses it.
Why should a TWS be the "be all end all" during the night?
What about actual NV-scopes?
I am okay with what I've seen so far, but it will be one of the 1st things I'll take an indepth look at in beta, because BF3 has shown to me how much a wrongly implemented TWS can imbalance a game.
