Have they said anything about bringing back some of the old PS1 weapons?
I haven't heard anything about the rocklet launcher, the thumper, or the radiator.
Are they just trying to take out the AOE weapons.

I believe the general opinion of many people is that AOE's are out. However, the other general opinion is that we won't know until Beta :P

I personally like to think that if they're releasing a flamethrower back into the game, we're going to see some kind of grenade launcher, whether it be mounted onto an AR or something akin to the Thumper. And what kinds of grenades we'd get? Well, I hear that there's going to be frag and EMP, but anything else? Dunno.

We know the shotguns are slated to make it in, but don't have finished weapon models as of the E3 build.

I'd love to see the rocklet launcher come back. I've had a soft spot (through all the nerfs, even) for it since it reminded me of UT's unquestionably awesome rocket launcher. There's just something about a revolving magazine of rockets that makes me happy.

I think it was generally accepted that the Thumper and Rocklet were quite lame weapons that held up fights. Seems they are trying to move away from those kind of weapons. The radiator would struggle to be useful looking at the current game.

They don't like AOE spamguns, but grenades are still in.

They basically mentionned that you will pay dearly for AoE weapons. Basically, it will burn so much resources that your resource account will melt like a block of butter suntanning.

can't say I won't miss the Ancient Tech guns, never been my cup of tea, I've used the Thumper and Rocket rifle to good effect in PS 1 but them having under slung grenade launchers on rifles and grenades of many varieties on quick throw more than makes up for it so far.

Was that the new style Striker/Phoenix design they were using for the infantry AV or a NS common pool?

I saw on one of the videos (can't recall which one but one before E3 I'm pretty sure) that a weapon mod for rifle was a grenade launcher. Course as this is a weapon mod, it made me wonder if it would get free grenades like resupplying ammo from an LA. Course it may be more like the thumper in that it pulls frags from your account.

This. And grenades are in but they actually cost you resources and are limited in your inventory.

I used to like unleashing a full barrage of rocklets. Killed a few infiltrators with a quick unload sweep around a hack terminal.

As long as there is some form of underslung alternative i could live without the dedicated rocklet and thumper grenade launcher.
I feel that totally avoiding these style of weapons would be a mistake.
As for the scorpion? rocket thing it won't be missed, it was an interesting concept but a bit to sit back and spam in implementation. The AT weapons I won't miss at all. (spiker was kinda fun but grenades did a similar role over a shorter range and 6 shot pistols were comparable at longger ranges)

The only AT weapon I'm going to miss is the Maelstrom. Anyway pretty sure the SA weapons are mostly gone. Deci is now part of the AV weapons that you can dumbfire without a lock, Thumper is now an attachment underbarrel and the Rocklet is just gone.

well its appears at release these types of weapons are out. But that does not mean they can't/won't add later.
I like the idea that if they did add them as use to like the thumper, had to watch out for easy weapons lock with that gun, but now if they made it tided into resosrces like other nades but higher cost, that would make people think twice about spaming.
but time will tell when we get into beta what we can do with the under slung nade launcher, as we have no clue about ammo could on it or if can even be reloaded, or what reload times are on it. we dont have any info basicaly on any weapons.

I loved the Special Assault weapons. They were versatile and fulfilled the role I needed for them. I was primarily a sniper in PlanetSide and often I would land 1 hit on an enemy which would cause them to duck behind cover. Often a quick switch to a Thumper and a well-aimed arc would allow me to finish off a weakened opponent. A Rocklet Rifle made short work of an Infiltrator if I heard the sound of an AMP pistol nearby.

I played frequently with the Guass Rifle or Sweeper, but Special Assault often found its way into my inventory. There were more than a few occasions where a Vanu MAX would jump up to one of my sniping positions and I would put him down with a few Rocklet Rifle clips and some good footwork.

I would love to see both weapons return in some capacity. While I agree that people spamming Thumpers from walltops made for some lame gameplay (because of the low skill involved), the Rocklet was a weapon versatile enough to fit into your inventory whenever you weren't quite sure what you would be going up against.

I saw the use of an attachable grenade launcher in one of the videos which I think would be fine to replace the Thumper. Grenades were very underpowered in PS and the Thumper was partially to blame.

The Rocklet needs to come back though. I like a gun that's a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none. It had enough punch to make light vehicles attempt to avoid a second barrage, and a rocket or two thrown at a flicker of movement could drive an Infil back behind cover and think twice about picking me as his target. It was this sniper's best friend on many an occasion.

I liked the Rocklet, though it was barely worth using the Flak ammo for it lol.

I hope the PS2 iteration of the Rocklet is an RPG launcher.

IMO the flak was fantastic at scaring off tower door camping airchav.

That rocklet -> RPG comment is plain dumb, planetside already had an RPG it was called the Decimator.

I know Sobe pretty well and I know he knows about the Decimator in the original. I tend to suspect he was talking about having a Deci in PS2 since we've seen no sign of a powerful dumbfire RPG yet.

No Rocklet?

BOOOOOOOoooo

After the Deci nerf, the rocklet became my anti max weapon of choice. That and running away so as to not to waste my time. I've always hated the PS1 rock, paper, scissors mentality where they tried to make where 1 person couldnt kill another person because of equipment... especially when they didnt give you a choice to avoid those people entirely.

I could choose not to play vehicleside and waste my time pecking away at armor with wimpy AV, only to have them run off, repair and be back a minute later. Could not choose to avoid max noobs
