View Full Version : Customised Outfit logos

Will planetside 2 allow customized Logos for there outfits? Instead of the premade ones.
Like EvE online Alliances, It will add another dimension to the game. And certainly bring some ownership of being in a outfit.
Only down side, it takes dev time to add them in. EvE online takes about 6 months for a logo to go through a full check list.
I hope to see this.

I would be a fan. And it would be a good revenue source - surely the larger outfits would pay cash to do it.
It does seem like a good avenue to make some money. I know our outfit would chip in to buy a custom logo.
I really hope they consider this.

I keep mentioning Flying Labs Studios' system for user submission in SOE-published game Pirates of the Burning Sea. It's effective, efficient, and works great at giving the community self-policing tools during the submission process to take the load for vetting submissions off of developer shoulders.
The planetside developers should totally go over to FLS, club their guys over the head with a few E3 Best in Show plaques, and make off with the system wholesale. ;)

Higby has mentioned they do want to do this although I think it would probably be an after release thing.

I was going to mention this as well when I saw the thread title, it worked really well and for making outfits feel unique it would definately add a lot.
Higby also said he had reservations because of the obvious abuse of trust & power at adding custom decals and the need for monitoring.

I can only imagine the technical challenges of loading 500 outfit logos into GPU memory alongside all the other textures the game and various customizations use.

This is why something like what Flying Labs did with Pirates of the Burning Sea would be needed.
You would create your logo and submit it to the system, players would then vote yes/no to it. Once it receives enough yes votes an SOE staff member would give it a final check to make sure it is suitable content and either ok it for addition to the game or delete it as needed.
Or like someone else mentioned for money making purposes they could make it a function the outfit would need to club together to buy for a reasonable fee and then a logo can be submitted to SOE for approval. I would hope in that situation that people having paid for the privilege of having a custom outfit logo they would only be looking to submit things that would be suitable for approval. Of course you'd get idiots either way, you always do, but for the sake of a CSR checking things as they're submitted it would add so much to being in an outfit.

I totally agree, we need to have custom logo for our outfits, I would enjoy drawing my archangel for ours. Add to this a reasonable price or something and bam, great system to give a welcome customization and a sideline profit.
But it still need an efficient way of filtering those... akward content...

Cocks and Swastikas on day one. Perhaps even a combination of the two. A "Cwokstika" if you will.

The hindou "swastika" logo is white with black outlines, not purely black. So yes there is a difference.

EVE Online has Custom Alliance logo's that need to be approved by the game admins or game masters before they are accepted. They all look very nice on the info tabs and etc ( Not on actual ships, but eventually i suppose )
Good for income and buying if Sony wants to do it like that too. (The wait in EVE for a logo can take forever)

Customised outfit logo's would be a great implementation to the game, it would create a decent amount of revenue on Sony's part and also help characterize different outfit's from each other, which would be fantastic.
I hope more outfit like features are implemented as well, but we'll see :)

true you'll get a ton of pornografic type stuff
Also alot of the hate crap Swastika's and other loser stuff.
Would need somebody monitoring it for sure because we don't need that crap in the game.

definitely a feature I would like to see, although as already mentioned there could potentially be issues. Maybe whenever you create a custom insignia it has to be submitted for review first? Or maybe some sort of community vote... I think the planetside community is probably mature enough to reject silly insignias... although this is the internet, so who knows?
Also, let's face it: who is actually gonna pay to have a dick as their outfit logo? Seriously?

For the people that think it's a good idea to give total freedom to the players to create their outfit logos, I shall direct you to the COD Black Ops emblems.

I would agree, potbs's flag/sail system is great, but the community has to be willing to man the system.

My suggestion would be to have something more like the logos for EVE's corporations. You have a bunch of pre-made options and ways to combine them, and they take effect instantly. Maybe have both methods, so someone can get a logo right away and then apply for a custom logo.

hamma is correct
I just watched a video interview where highby said you can put on outfit logo's with station cash etc.
it may or may not make it in for release.. but it def will be in the game at some point. Click the video it's set right where he states this.

It's an awesome enough feature that I think players and outfits would put up some substantial cash to get their custom logo.
If it requires valuable man hours to screen, charge us for them, and then double it or more so you make a profit. Put a disclaimer that A) it will take up to x amount of time to be approved (2 weeks tops maybe?) and B) that inappropriate content will be discarded and the purchase price will NOT be refunded. Just make those points very clear, and make them sign something that says they can not dispute what SOE defines as inappropriate, and it should be good.
Provide some free or cheaper premade logos for outfits who don't want to spend the money, like the outfit logo system from the first game.

It's a surefire idea too.

Don't think instant medic revives are in from what I've seen and heard?
Either way, I'm for custom logos. Take these ones from EVE Online.

With a selection process (Hopefully faster than CCP's), you can get some really nice logos ingame.

PotBS solved this by requiring votes to submit. Or was it after one submission, you needed to put votes in to earn another? Either way.. it can be done. Then, of course, you get the people who are actively involved in the submission community that do way more than the voting required to keep their own submissions going in. I used to like doing a few rounds of votes to kill time at lunch from work -- I got to see a bunch of cool art people'd done!

Wouldn't making it so outfits need a certain amount of outfit points before they could submit a logo (still for a fee) be enough to reduce the manpower required to oversee the logos?
Optionally, if your logo gets rejected you have to wait before you can submit another one

Yes! I created a logo that was recently put in-game in Eve and it gives me a sense of accomplishment as an inter-galactic artist. Good to see they like the idea in PS2!
