... is a Mustang 5.0. Here's a picture of what it KINDA looks like that I found on the internet. Just imagine it with a soft top and there you go. It's the second one down.

Nice. Know the front part there with the Mustang... mustang? Dad's letting me replace it with a Ford like plate (as seen on the red car on that page in the OP) and air brushing whatever I want on it. Guess which xenophilliac faction's gonna get it's emblem on my new car... ;)

Isn't that stang a little too boxy for VS?

Everyone enjoys history every now and again. Why do you think people still go camping? Or the VS still use Galaxies?

Holy SHIT you guys pay a fuckton of taxes and insurance.
My first car:
$4500 Pontiac + $280 sales tax,
$800 insurance for the year (still a lot for a 16 year old, but I guess the V8 didn't help),
$130 Registration + Safety sticker fee
$2800 Fuel bill for the year

I know a guy who will only buy Panther platform vehicles at auction. Clearly they did something right.

They did something right in '85. And while car collectors are a weird bunch and I can't say anything against those opting to buy any kind of car, that platform has absolutely no business being made in 2012. Ford made the right choice to rid of that thing.

I dunno, there's something to be said for a body-on-frame beast. Ford's been better served by bringing their euro-spec trims stateside, in my opinion, but it's largely academic at this point.

Ford is bringing their Euro-specced stuff to China, the US is just a by-stop.

I had a marginally functional Saab 9000 turbo through school. A 2000 Kia Rio was the first car I paid for entirely on my own. I ain't proud of it, but you can't run from your past. :)

Cool, my gf's first car's a Beetle. It's more roomy than I thought. Plus seeing people punch each other as she drives by is hilarious.

You guys damn near got me to cry a lil bit. My first car as a 89 Camry. Ugly, slow, but dependable. Best time of my life and all the freedom that came with it. Now my crazy ass little brother doesn't want to drive or have a car, and he has friends the same way. Must be a generational thing??? Hes 13yrs younger than me.

My two youngest sibs are the same way (8 and 12 year diff). I don't get it. A car has been integral to my identity since I learned to drive. But then, when I learned to drive, you could fill up the tank for a weekend on whatever change you had in your pockets. :)

I bought my first car a year ago. I worked all through school to pay for it:

first one on the right (orange) except mine has tinted windows.
Some asshole crashed into me while I was parked just last week so it's been a rough month for my baby :( going to cost like 2.5k (500 out of pocket) to get the wheel well / front bumper and hood replaced. luckily there was no real structural damage.

I started out with a Volvo 740 -88 when I got my licence, not much of a chock when being swedish. But they run well and relatively cheap to repair and own. But could not afford it on the little student funding we got when I had to pay around 5$ a gallon (it cost about 8$a gallon now).
At the moment i have my SAAB 9000 -95 and my V8 powered TVR Tasmin 350i -84 (UK Spec) for those hot summer days.

I had 1.1litre citron saxo for my first car. Got pulled over for racing it 6 weeks later, crashed it 2 months later, replaced it a week later with an identical saxo....and then crashed that one too! :D
To you Americans, the cars big enough to fit between your paving slabs! ;)

That 5.0 fox body is a great first car...don't get into too much trouble with it.
My first car was a B5 (~2000ish) Passat with the 1.8T. It was a hand-me-down. Nice car...but with some reliability issues.
Then I bought a 1991 (the e30 generation) BMW 318is, which had been swapped for the inline 6 cylinder. It's a fucking hoot. Looks like the car in my sig..or this, but with fog lights in the lower valence:
http://www.forum-auto.com/uploads/200504/bmw_318_is_1113591411_aaa.jpg
(The e30 BMW is part of The Car Lounge's "holy trinity" along with the 4.0 Jeep Cherokee and the NA Mazda Miata, for good reason)
I still have that but it's at my parents house. Now I drive a second gen Mini Cooper S hardtop in British Racing Green. Thing is a riot...but I'm planing to sell it.
I'll bring the e30 back up here and get an old Cherokee, Audi or Subaru for the winter.
I'm really lusting after a Z3 coupe or one of the Subaru/Scion BRZ/FR-S twins. I had a drive in an FR-S the other day. It's the only way to get a new rear-wheel-drive sportscar at a decent price, besides the Miata, that hasn't been bloated up in weight and size, like the Mustang/Camaro/Challenger(LOLOLOL it's huge). I do have some hope for the next gen Mustang, though. It's supposed to be smaller/lighter and have IRS.

My first car was a 1970 Volvo. The thing was a beast in the best sense of the word. Easy and cheap to fix - and didn't need much of either. Had 240,000KM on it when I bought it - cost me a grand. And I drove it for 2 years all over North America road trippin' like it was goin' out of style. Hell, I'd probably still be driving it today if some asshole in his big F150 hadn't plowed into it. And yes, those Volvo crumple zones really work. Any other care and I'd wager I'd have been seriously hurt or worse, but with this I walked away without a scratch. His name was Moondoggy!

Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Both the Turbo I4 and the V6 are a blast to drive - I did both on the test-drive circuit before my last purchase. If I had to guess, I'd say the Toyota 86 and the Genesis are going to become a classic rivalry - they both have a ton of personality and are quite nimble.

Yeah, I forgot about it...it just doesn't push my buttons much...and the rear window looks like a dick. ;)
The Gencoupe is a step in the right direction mechanically. But, it's still much heavier and much bigger than the 86. Almost as big as the 'stang
