View Full Version : When the first battle commences...

I wonder will we start with 0 resources at the beginning? Or get a complimentary supply boost at the beginning to get us started. If not I can see a lot of infantry battles at the beginning. :P

The VS and TR will get resources. The NC will not get any to start with, but we will have them all within 24 hours and the game will end with NC as the victors.
I say for the opening battle, everyone has to walk :D
I'm fairly sure that every empire on a continent gets a bare minimum of resources from the warpgate, to prevent horrific camping/lock scenarios, as well as awkward opening moments if they ever restart the servers. Probably not enough for a whole lot of mbts or liberators, maybe a few sundies or gals here or there, but I'd imagine they'd like to keep the feel light and fast early on.

Three continents, three factions... I'd thought all factions would just grab one cont each :D
It's still up in the air if default vehicles cost resources.

They never said resources will be continent locked. Meaning, if your empire holds continent A, you will get resources from there even if you are on continent B.
At the very beginning of the game you will probably get some starter cash, but it won't matter either way as your empire is bound to capture some territory in the first few minutes of gameplay.

I like the way this gentleman thinks.

Actually it has been stated (think by MH quite a while) that you earn resources only from the continent you are on. Of course, this may have changed since then.

This is a GREAT point. Why don't we just draw up a treaty, we all each get one continent, and then we ALL win. PEACE IN OUR TIME

And this is stupid, what's the incentive then for everyone to be on more than one continent? Whats the point of doing well on each one? They might as well be separate servers.
Anyone else see that as an issue?

I think that the TR and NC have most of the resources in the beginning because they're either tyrannical superpowers or they're business tycoons under the banner of "freedom". Then the VS uses our alien technology to multiply our resources exponentially and we create a super antigravity machine and lift our "home" continent off the surface and create a giant mass accelerator to orbital strike the other two factions and---...
:D
In my opinion, I like the idea of it all starting off as neutral territory and all the factions start from their warpgates fighting across the continent in a massive land grab. But I'm also up for the idea of all the continents being split evenly between all the factions so that we all have a small amount of resources to start our carnage :)

I'm hoping the game starts with every hex as neutral, then there's a huge clusterfuck for the first few hours with everyone scrambling to get as much territory as possible.

it would the nicest one, soo you would be wondering if to give priority to capture the nearest one or to go to all way to an enemy one in a try to slow them/or in best situation keep it

This is why it would be good to be in an outfit before beta starts - prepare plans for what you want to do!

Pretty sure all players may get a small amount of resources when they start up their character. Also the people will get resources as they head out to capture the nearest bases and such.
What I want to see is a recording of first contact between the empires. Who will see who first? who will win the first firefight? will it be a small skirmish, or will it become a great battle?

A little medal for first blood would be nice (In every other game it means nothing) but in this game first blood would be a very unique badge to wear with honour since no one will ever get it again.

They should probably award a few first bloods... or declarations of war or whatever to different continents and servers.

I'm pretty sure they did say that, but I don't remember the source sadly, so it's hearsay at best. Ah well.
I would love watching people walk. The battle slowly begins... and then people start capturing the points nearest the foothold, and then vehicle slowly start popping out... the first galaxy is spawned, everyone gets in it and then it crashes into a tree... etc.
It also depends on whether they do a soft or hard transition at the end of beta.

I think having everything start off as neutral would be interesting to see. It would come down to organised units sending small assault teams into nearby hexes with larger assault teams going to the bases nearer the centre.

^that ftw.
None of this multi-planet stuff until we've got at least more than 3 continents on a single planet.
Hopefully they will put some system in place where you still get passive resource gains from continent locks once they reintroduce those. So if you've got a locked continent and you'd normally be getting, say 100 auraxium etc. while on that continent, then while you're off of that continent on another continent (or offline) you'd only get maybe 10 or 20, but still something otherwise there'd be no incentive to hold territory outside of the continent you're on.

This. I'd like to think that newly created characters at any time (day 1 or day 1000) get a token amount of resources to start off. 100-200 of each, let's say.
This way, they can buy a quad to get back to the fight after they squad-spawn into their auto-squad and die the first time. But it's low enough that you have to earn your second or third tank.

Players will have to start with a bare minimum. Wat, no guns? I'll have to Tyson my enemies to death!
I noticed on the E3 broadcasts that the Flash cost zero resources, perhaps that is an indication of dev thinking on this, everyone gets a gun and a Flash for transport.

LOL if we start all neutral with 0 resources who cares about weapons i would run naked if it makes me faster-but if this is the case, the pay per win people will get an advantage if they make possible for them to buy resources, an early galaxy can make a HUGE difference.

tell me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure higby said that once you unlock a weapon you can use it at any time.
maxes cost resources and grenades also, but i think the unlocked weapons are free.

hmm this "first battle" with maybe neutral bases everywhere will go through in about an hour.
i wonder, what happens to the status of the worldmap, when the server goes down? if it crashes or has to be taken down for maintenance. will the world be resetted and all bases go neutral? or will the last saved mapstatus be reloaded?
if the status is reloaded, how are bases going to reset to neutral anyways? will there be a possibility to make bases go neutral? like draining in ps1?
i donĀ“t think the devs have programmed a whole neutral nanine system theme for the bases if this status will only be available in the first hour of the whole gamelife!

I was wondering this as well, do factions start with territory, or have to work their way from their warp gate outwards? If so, a whole bunch of people will just grab Flashes as soon as possible and snatch up undefended territories, 'twill be fun.

When I read this, I swear I hear the Metal Gear Solid theme play off in the distance. Maybe that's just the psychosis.
To answer someone else's earlier question (RedKnights I believe) about why we would want multiple continents if they are all resource independent? Simple: variety. Some days people want to fight in the desert, others want to fight in the jungle etc. If each cont was a different server, you wouldn't get that, obviously. Simple as that.

And everyone knows, even if time takes forever, enemy spec-ops squads and outfits will be back-hacking as soon as everyone leaves their first newly conquered hex near their foothold. Going to be a lot of fun!
As for resources, give me enough to hop on a quad, and for first day only, let me get a lance! A medieval lance! Jousting in the middle of the continents, go!

Well the fact that it has made it into common language and has established itself as a saying seems to suggest you are in the minority in that way of thinking.

First thing I'm doing is getting a fast vehicle, some grenades, and some friends then will start messing with the NC and TR local bases. :)
Every starcraft player (or tournament watcher) knows that if you mess with the enemies economy early enough they are in for a tough time.

Positive fact, the fact that the popular saying is "no plan survives contact with the enemy" rather than "when the first shot is fired...all plans go out the window" shows that the actual saying is the more widely accepted, and therefore better in terms of general popularity and acceptance. Simples. The military use the saying as a lesson to officers, I'm pretty sure if there was a generally catchier version they would have worked it out and started using it by now.
