ASSUMING THE GAME IS FULLY COMPLETE & POLISHED. If PS2 skipped beta and released to the world today how would you feel about that?
Would you be happy because you get to play, or would you be upset because you didn't get to be a part of the development process (beta)?

I'd be upset that a game I cared about would have a terrible launch and have trouble recovering from the ruining of the games reputation.

But I'd be sort of happy that I finally get to play the game.

I'd be giddy and exited now because I'm bored out of my skull. Then I'd probably be disappointed that they released an alpha :(
Edit: If the game was completely done though I'd be... hard.

The poll is flawed in concept.
If it's released today it's not done. If it's not done the poll's theory is invalid.

And if it sucks because it's not ready, I'm not going to complain or trash it online. I'll stick with it.
The only way I would be bitter is if it fried my hardware due to really terrible coding. But I'm not worried about that.

I swear to god people on the Internet are getting dumber. The question isn't asking if Sony could use magic to release a finished game today. He is asking your feelings on participating in he beta and help shaping the game. With a little bit of abstrac thinking, you could imagine playing today!

No, the poll is asking something impossible and obvious and silly all at the same time.
In essence if PS2 were full and complete there's nobody on these boards who would not want to play it and be happy about it. Thus the poll is obviously pointless.
The concept of the poll is that the game is miraculously through beta and done, right now. Obviously impossible.
It's simply poorly written and pointless. And a reason why I like official sites. (Polls aren't available to normal users.)

IF the game is fully finished and polished, than yes ofcourse i would like it to be released ASAP.
However that's the hole point of the beta:to get to the point where the game is properly balanced and the bugs are fixed.
So if you question were, would i like the game to be released now even if that means the balance and the bugs wont be fixed, than no.
Keep in mind though that the good thing about f2p games is that they always keep getting better and the developers are on a constant quest to improve the game.
It's not like bf3 for example which hole purpose was to make some cool looking trailers and than after you gave them the money and bought it,EA/DICE couldnt care less about the game quality itself.
And in tribes for example, the game is constantly improving, because you need to keep new players coming and since it's f2p,the only way you are gonna get money is if people like your game enought to actually buy from the store.

Chose "Happy"... Operating on the above paradigm, then there is no point to the beta, let slip the dogs of war...
Edit: Listen guys... he set the rules of his game, very succinctly. If he breaks out the monopoly board, dont fucking start reading the candyland rulebook...
Even if all the game mechanics were ready In a game like planetside 2 the scales and servers infrastructure need to ne tested and also with thats scales the weapons and vehicules balanced have to be tested badly !
SO its compleatly impossible and this theory canot even toutch my mind for a single second !
MMO always have beta and a MMO shooter need even more beta testing to ensure the fairness and the servers infrastructure the multiple comp build suport etc..etc..etc..
So i dont get the point of this tread

Ok, use a little bit of thinking to see what he's asking. How well written it is immaterial. The real question that's being asked is how much players care about adding to the testing, development and creation of the game through beta versus the opportunity to play it sooner. You sound just like a mediocre person aping he mannerisms of an intelligent one, but the one thing you can't ape is actual critical thinking ability.

^^^ This. I think I'd be a bit upset. Especially since the PS2 devs have been very involved with this community in discussing features and ideas for the game. If we weren't a part of molding the game we will have to hash all the crap out in a full time free-to-play environment <scary>. How do we know that player base input is required to make PS2 a solid gaming experience? Because we went through it in PS1.

Since I can read the OP, and see that there's a stipulation that the game is playable and polished when it hypothetically released today...
My answer entirely depends on whether the features I don't like remain in, or whether they got changed to suit me. If it were the former, I'd be upset that I didn't have a chance in the development process to voice my opinions (which isn't to say they'd be adhered to and changed to suit me, but then at least I've had the chance to offer structured, informed feedback based on experience rather than theorizing and speculating to talk in generalities on a board like this). If it were the latter, I'd be overjoyed that the game I've eagerly anticipated is finally here and it's every bit the game I wanted it to be.
So... either 1 or 3, but I have no idea which?

If the gameplay is right, the gameflow, with a good basic, balanced units.
The game runs without major bugs, i could live with only 1 Continent.
It`s F2P anyway, the more people test it, the better. Adding more content every week or so would also anchor a player base, and attract new players.
But it would need all that, for example the E3 Demo alone would get boring pretty soon.

It is in the best interest of SOE to release a polished game, so when the game is released it will be polished to their standards, whatever they may be.
Therefore PS2 will be polished at release, regardless of beta.
I tell you-! I tell you, its... its.. UNCANNY!

If the premise of the OP happened, there would be the most almighty WTF from this community. We'd all feel robbed and cheated of seeing our favourite game come together, lose the feeling of being involved in its creation.
Then, about oh, 10 nano seconds later we'd be downloading it and installing and playing it. Then back to bitching on the forums about how "this" or "that" should have been fixed in beta......

My priority is helping ensure that PS2 is as awesome as it can be. Playing in beta is way, way lower on the list, though admittedly playing the game does help provide essential context in order to ensure it is awesome.

I think the OP could have worded it better. Maybe:
"How would you feel if Beta has actually been out for months and they were to release PS2 today, complete, polished, and bug free? Would you feel disappointed that you didn't get to participate in the Beta process? Happy that the game is done and you get to play a finished product? Or both?"
To which I would say I would have been happy to help, but glad my first experience in PS2 would be with a completed version.

"How would you feel if Beta has actually been out for months and they were to release PS2 today, complete, polished, and bug free? Sort of correct. I meant no EXTERNAL beta at all. That SOE fully polished the game by whatever means required except an external beta.
Would you feel disappointed that you didn't get to participate in the Beta process? Happy that the game is done and you get to play a finished product? Or both?" This agrees with my OP.

Sorry everything needs to get some form of UAT testing to smooth out the kinks. Otherwise you just end up with a big pile of epic fail and a less than happy customer base. (regardless of how skilled the coders are)

oh i would be sad because beta experience is such a special thing!
as long as it is a real beta and not such a stupid marketing gag beta like most games do nowadays (bf3 anyone?)
it´s a privilege to actually have some influence on the developement of a game, and i love to hunt bugs down and see them fixed shortly after they are reported! things like this almost never happen after a game is released. like some bugs in ps1 that were present for years (and still are).
oh and the level of communication to the devs or GMs during a closed beta is just unmatched!

The OP clarified that it's if the game is complete and polished. We've already given our ideas and the devs have listened. I'm surprised so many people wanted to just be in the beta. I'm excited to play and improve the game. If the game is already done, there's no need for improvement, so why would you rather play the buggy beta version over the polished, complete version?

There was no need for that choice, if you read the OP the game is finished and polished. Think a bit more hypothetical and the answer may come to you, if it doesn't, you always have option 3.

This wouldn't happen. So no, I would not be happy about them skipping beta. It would give all the news players a bad first impression with all of the bugs and imbalances, which would likely cause the game to have a lot less people playing it in the long run.
