With the good chunk of E3 footage we got we now have a better idea of how the games going to be and what would fit in it. With that I think its time to start some idea threads for fun to hold us down till beta now that we have a more clear view of the game. This one, Engineer Idea's!!! Come up with a practical idea for Engineers from deployables to certs and more that would fit in current PS2 version.

Destroyable bridges on the maps, which engineers have to rebuild using resources.

Been suggested like a hundred times on this forum... but I like it so Im'a do it again!

I'd like to see the engineer have the ability to deconstruct/ dismantle enemy deployables and vehicles which would add resources to their personal and empire pools.

move to idea subforum?

Hmm, probably should have posted there. But its not my singular idea so I don't know if that means it should or shouldn't. And less people view the idea section and just trying to help people pass time with some creative fun.

I'm not even sure what all the Engineer is supposed to be able to do, at this point. I haven't heard alot about it and the people at E3 didn't seem to do anything with Engineers outside deploy turrets.

In any case, I'd like to see Engineers be able to construct small resupply outposts. I'm not sure how difficult/costly this should be based on the game mechanics, but it'd be pretty cool. I think they were talking about removing the light assault's 'ammo pack' skill, so maybe it'll go to the engineer.

EDIT: I just saw from the Wiki that apparently Engineers DO have such a thing. Well butter me up and call me a breakfast roll.

I would like to see non-lethal weapons, things like smoke bombs, tar-traps (sort of like slow spells in MMO's), spy drones, and maybe some sort of computer virus that temporarily reverses the controls on a vehicle. They should cost resources and have a long cooldown, but hey, I think it would be fun to mess with the enemy.

Drones would be interesting. It needs to be balanced so its not stupid easy or ruin gameplay but has potiential

Deployables

Sensor Turret: Deploys a small turrent that gives a soft blue sensor sweep 8 feet indirection its facing. Infiltrators that pass through this become visually revealed. The turret also reveals moving enemies in target direction 30 feet out.

Repair Station: Deploys a small automatic repair station smaller than a person. With tiny robotic arms it repairs armor of close infantry and MAX suits. It can repair up to 3 people at a time. Lasts 5 minutes. Sacrifices engineers main repair gun to use.

Spy Drone: Deploys a small drone that hovers 25ft up or collides with stationary object. The drone will reveal enemy player names as well as their class within LOS of the drone and within 50ft. Nearby allies with advanced huds can see this information. (Heavy Suits, MAX, and upgraded helmet for the other classes) The Drone lasts 10 minutes.

Weapons

Track Lock: Shoots a small device onto target vehicle. Vehicle becomes highlighted for all lock-on weapons and reduces the lock-on time by 60%.

Enchanced Jammers: Engineers jammer gernades are enhanced causing hit enemy's to lose communication via voice and text, as well as causing vehicles to have small increase of difficulty in driving during jammers duration.

I am completely new to this game, Do engineers also are anti vehicle specialists?

I think Engineers should get a destroyable unarmed Scout drone. They would be vulnerable when using it, like how Phoenix users are.

The drone could be a camera and maybe some special abilities... like being able to fool IFF into think it is a friendly unit? Unlimited duration, well until the droner dies.

So far looks like not -- that's mostly going to be your AV suited MAX's and Heavy Assaults (also gunships and bombers)

I believe you can select anti-vehicle mines and an anti-vehicle turret in the loadout. I think only the Heavy Assault get a rocket launcher though.

A deployable jump pad to give non LA classed the ability to scale walls.

The drones idea is really cool. It could light up all the enemy it see's on the mini map as well for everyone.

I would like to see the engineer be able to construct destroyable cover, in the form of sandbags or small walls (not a transparent energy shield).

I would like to see the unmanned spitfire turrets return (although we did see a cert for this in the E3 demo so I'm hopeful).

I would like to see engineers be able to repair armor of other infantry, not just vehicles and MAXes.

A field support/repair vehicle that only engineers can drive. This could be a component of the forward base idea. Maybe it can repair and resupply vehicles and infantry when deployed, and when it's not deployed it can act as a minesweeper.

This isn't new but slightly changed.. The manned turret has a shield for the user. I would like to see an expanded half height shield on each side.
So fully shield for the gunner, and side shields for friendly cover. Would be like an MG nest that other people could shoot from.
would probably have to reduce the swing range of the turret so the whole thing doesn't move...

That sounds like a fantastic idea, but it begs the question if there will be chasms that hinder movement.
