I'm definitely looking forward to the game, but there is also some concerns. Especially in regards to how useful spec ops will be without NTU, Lattice links, cave benefits to steal or block, gens to destroy and so on.
Also with all the vehicles that disappear, such as ANT, AMS, Lodestar and others it feels a bit like an amputated game compared to old one.
Guess time will tell though.
I'm very thrilled the game is comming after all these years, just hope it can live up to the original.

I personally think that both the Loadster and AMS need to be put back in the game asap. Especially the AMS was very important in my opinion

Galaxy functions as AMS, with the possibility of a cloak, so AMS isn't needed. Lodestar is replaced by the sunderer, so it's not needed. ANTs weren't really fun, IMO. Only time they were fun was ANT + lode.
And the game has generators... so I dunno what you're on about that.

How is the Lodestar replaced by the Sunderer? Both were in the first game, and as far as I know, the Sunderer can neither fly or load a tank ?

The lodestar was mostly used for field repair and ANT deliveries, which were extremely infrequent. I never saw a lodestar carrying a tank in the 6 years I played PS1.

It serves for repair/resupply now.

IMO a lot of the time the term "spec ops" was code for "boring base drain".

There will be a lot of smaller ojectives out on the map away from main bases that I'm sure spec ops teams will be able to capture and hold to deny the enemy resources, create dviersions and all that good stuff.

Spec ops in PS1 were often too heavily oriented towards uninteresting PvE objectives, so they removed said objectives to force players into PvP situations more often to provide a game with more frequent action for everyone.

that being said, there are still plenty of spec-ops type missions, ghosthacking a base, gen dropping, and infiltration spawning type things.

A lot of stuff that we think of as mainstays of Planetside was actually added after the game launched. Don't sweet it so much if the devs decide not to include some stuff quite yet. Let's see how it plays in beta, so that we know if some of this stuff is needed or not, and if so, how it should be implemented.
PS2 is going to be a very different game in some ways, so arbitrarily requesting that certain fringe features be ported over may not be entirely realistic until we get a feel for the new game.
The new territory system will probably make a whole bunch of new spec ops style tactics be viable.

Territory + intercontinental lattice + more continents at launch would've been better though.
Or inventory + customizations.
I would like to see some kind of air transport for vehicles, though I hope it looks nothing like a lodestar. I think a variant of the galaxy with its passenger bay cut out would look cool. Given the increased flexibility of the hex system compared to the lattice system, it could have more use, though I don't think it's particularly high priority. Lack of vehicles for me isn't really a concern, most were consolidated fairly well.
As for tactics and the hex system, who knows. I don't think I'll miss the lattice system: structure was needed to keep the game from being random hacks and backhacks, but I felt the lattice was a bit overkill, forcing battles into a few, frequently visited zones and along fairly predictable lines. It reinforced the zerg mentality that dominated a lot of PS' main "tactics." The hex system has the potential to be more than that, depending how they structure outpost and small base captures. I believe the main bases will still be hard to capture and will resemble, in a way, the zerg/frontline trend from the original. But any way you cut it, the hex system at least has more strategic potential; it all depends on whether that potential is realized in the final product. I think outfits could have a lot of fun with the system.
Overall, good post.

I thought they already said they were looking into letting the Galaxy carry vehicles as a loadout option? As in sacrificing some passenger space so you can carry a tank.
Anyway I think its clear what they are doing is trying to trim the fat. Cutting the stuff that wasn't used very much in the original. Or putting those abilities on vehicles that are used often. And it's true a bunch of this stuff wasn't in the first at launch either. They probably are trying to keep it simple to start with then work up.

They discussed certs for the Galaxy that allowed for vehicle drops at the cost of some personnel slots. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I'm excited to see the level of customization they allow you to have on these things.

I believe I heard the same thing, but I'm wondering if they would need a new model for it. I know boarding/loading animations are out (for now, at least,) but I wonder if a mbt boarding a galaxy would push the weirdness beyond its allowed boundaries...

if the community can see it as a NEW game and not as planetside 1.1 everything will be fine
its more action pack , its more fast pace , the ttk the weapon mechanics will be different the class systhem etc..etc..
But this game have unprecedent scales , amasing graphics , polish gameplay , great weapons feel . and also have the team work tools and great communication
trying to compare to much planetside 1 to planetside 2 in every details will ruins the game and ruins the player base
people as to see it as a totally new game and everything will be fine ;)
