This may already have been posted, but why is the gauss so much wider in 1st person view then in any other view? Compare http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=143 to http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=478 . Also, does it really need to take up that much space on screen? Comparing it to the cycler it takes up much more space. Is that necessary? Plus in my opinion it looks nothing like it is supposed to look like in 1st person view.

Just an observation, anyone else agree?

That's definitley a Jackhammer in the second picture, because it's wider. A FP picture of the Gauss was posted recently, much slimmer side-to-side.

yeah at the same time I saw that picture I said: wtf? is that a gauss rifle?

Yeah you're right, another ss made it look like a gauss at the bottom as the highlighted gun, where's the gauss ss?

P.S. - METRIOD PRIME IS THE BEST GAME EVER

Not really sure, Ven. Planetside underwent a media explosion this week, and I'm kind of fried from all the new screenshots. Just check all of the coverage from this past week. Something tells me it was attached to the Worthplaying preview, if that helps, but I could be wrong.

(Edit- Yeah Metroid Prime is one of the finest games I've ever played, ranks up there with the System Shock series and Dues Ex, among others. It's deeply atmospheric, has a great storyline consistant with it's predicessors, and really cool visual effects. Scanner is cool if you like gathering as much nerdy info about the game's story and concepts as I do :-) the way the gun flips into different shapes to fire the various beams is execelently done. Cheers on great taste in games)

it's a jackhammer, as u can see in another ss, and can someone get me the gauss 1st person ss?

I just went through the entire media ss page, all 24 pages, and all the preview ss's. There are no gauss 1st person shots, isnt that just wierd? If a beta's out, and hundreds of people are using the gauss u'd think someone would post an ss of it.

There is footage of the Gauss rifle being used in the Gamespot video. Fire rate is slow--like 1.5 a second.

sigh.. the 2 shots u compared are NOT teh same gun. the one with the gun and no in-game IS the gauss. the other in first person looking at hacker is a jackhammer. completely different. the gmaespot vid was NOT a gauss either. its some other gun im not sure of. BUT it is shown in the video preview in gamespot 6:20 into the movie. it shoots decent speed but i dislike how large the muzzle flare is and the lighting. its a blue flare but the walls light up yellow. i hope they tweak that.

ill mess around in adobe after effects to get a screen of the gauss first person.

Edit: Oops, you're right. He equips the Gauss rifle for the first time before 7:24 and the information box stays up even after he switches to a different weapon. What threw me off was that the same "Gauss Rifle" information box was up at 9:27 while he was firing the unidentified weapon. I'd just assumed they switched the model.

i see what you mean. i wonder what weapon that is ... if you pay attention to detail he cocks it like a shotgun after each shot yet looks nothing like fletchette. oh well i have a 2.35 meg avi of the guass in action but i dont know how to post it since i have no access to an ftp or anything like that ;(

I have no access to the gamespot movies so it'd be nice if someone could post an ss from one of the videos of the gauss in 1st person. Does it look as good as the cycler?

the vid's resolution is too low to judge even in the high-res download of the vid. if i had hosting of some sort then i'd show but i don't.

I hope that's a bug, 'cause according to the specs, it's refire rate is supposed to be fast.

Something of note, the gun on the hackers back in the second screenie is a Gauss, though it's unfortunately the world model.

.isn't that a punisher? im not sure, but I'm pretty sure that ain't no gauss. And yes, Metroid Prime is one of the best games I have played :D

Neither could possibly be a Punisher, that's got an upper carry handle. And the front sight and gas block look very similar to the M16/AR15's on the punisher. Actually, I think the Punisher might have been inspired by the OICW just like the Suppressor is obviously inspired by the HKMP5-SD series.

The player held weapon is definatley a jackhammer if you compare it to this (http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=144) picture.

And still yet no one has a picture of a gauss in 1st person. I'm just wondering why no one is curious enough to find out what it looks like in 1st person, i mean about 1/2 of the new conglomerate grunts are goign to be using the gun in my opinion. No one cares how cool its going to look or how gay its going to look? I mean the jackhammer looks really gay in 1st person, i'd hate the gauss to look like that shit.

Huh? As long as it kills what you are shooting at, gimme a break!I doubt it will be a fashion show!! I suppose you'll be looking for a mirror, so you can see yourself?!

I think what we're dealing with here is that the game-site previewers that SOE has recruited thus far are a bunch of smacktards who:

A: Are playing NC, but insist on using the punisher because they swear you can rocket jump in this game.
B: Identify too strongly with being terran and as such have no imagination.
C: Have some sort of propensity towards wearing purple and aquamarine spandex.

Oh well, I'm not one too judge. That's God's job....sinners. http://216.40.249.192/s/cwm/cwm/cwm27.gif

I did find a first person shot of what I'm positive is a Gauss, but the lighting isn't very good for picking out the detail. It's HERE. (http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=445)

HERE (http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=427) is a very nice 3rd person shot of a Gauss too.

EDIT: Where in the heck is the magazine on a Gauss anyway?

mauser thx, that sure as hell is a gauss, it should have around 40 or 50 ammo judging on the picture.
And that is a gauss, look at the bottom of the picture and u can see the gun from the side

Nice pics - The gauss looks sweet in first-person which is cool cos its prolly the gun ill be using most.

Also if you look at the first pic on the first post of this thread, I reckon the magazine could be that chunk under the barrel - it looks like it could be clipped on, sorta like a P90 but underneath rather than on top. Or alternatively, it could be the bit just on top at the back, above the trigger and pistol-grip.

Yeah I was just looking at the pics and now I see that the gauss has a 40 round clip and the cycler has a 50 round clip. http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=445

If you look on the bottom of the screen with the picture of the highlighted gauss, you'll see a number 40 below the pic and to the left, and since the gauss is completely highlighted, not just like 1/4 or 1/2 or whatever it means that its fully reloaded, hence the 40 round clip.

http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=383

If you look on the bottom with the picture of the highlighted cycler, you'll see a number 50 below hte pic and to the left, and since the cycler is completely highlighted, not just like 1/4 or 1/2 or whatever it means that the clip is full, hence the 50 round clip.
To the left of the cycler pic at the bottom is a pistol pic, it only has 13 rounds left in the clip, hence the pic of the pistol not being fully highlighted.

Well noticed - one thing this has brought to my attention is the great difference between the pistol mag sizes. In the weapons info we are told that the repeater (TR pistol) has a bigger ammo clip but not by how much. In the second pic we can see that the repeater has a clip larger than 13, and by the proportion of the icon that is highlighted, I would estimate about a 20 round clip. The first screen shows a mag scatter(NC sidearm) with a full clip of only 6 shells.

So there is quite a lot of difference between the two pistols, and, as it is assumed the pistols are relatively similar in potency (well balanced) we can assume that the NC Mag Scatter is significantly more damaging per shot that the Repeater

i wouldn't say it's more damaging, it's just that it's exactly like a shotgun with fewer pellets. Notice, most shotguns only have 7-8 shells, and pistols such as glocks have 20 rounds.
