Considering that video they posted on their website they seem to want to use PlanetSide 2 as another opportunity to advertise their graphics cards, if they can (or at least the PhysX in it). Having an up-to-date driver is kind of a pre-requisite for this.
A result of this is that hopefully the beta will run better (on Nvidia cards) than other betas, which should make it even more enjoyable, not that we needed any more enjoyment out of it :D .
I Wait til they get WHQL, or the Beta starts :P this should run on my 670 :)

I can remember in PS1 in a red alert base, turning around to stare at the sky. GPU doing nothing, 15 FPS. Stand in sanc, stare at sky, 300 FPS. Now what was the difference? CPU tracking red alert worth of chars in near vicinity was sacking my FPS even though GPU was doing nothing but refreshing same screen. Same thing will apply to PS2 or any other MMO. Get a higher end CPU and compromise on GPU. Get both ideally but for the cost sensitive person, CPU > GPU.
EDIT: LOL why did I post this in this thread. Oh well. ether way, I hope it helps.
No doubt, got a Phenom 970 pushing my 680. Need to get some sandy/ivy :p

Maybe a dumb question, but this driver only relates to "SLI" ... so if your not using SLI then you won't get a performance increase for planetside 2 right?.

I'm crossing my fingers for an announcement this week, along with an initial download for the first wave of testers, followed by the commencement of (the first scheduled window of?) beta on the 22nd or 29th.
In any event, if people are playing beta by the first week in July, it'll be an epic Independence Day.

Correct. SLI profiles help the drivers sort out how to most efficiently divide work between the GPUs to maximize performance for multi-GPU solutions.

That said, the drivers themselves frequently offer performance improvements. Typically, though, it's fine to run with the latest WHQL (Windows hardware quality... something -- basically, drivers that were submitted to Microsoft for stability testing and earned a stamp of approval; with graphics drivers and other drivers that see frequent updates, it's rarely economical to submit every build to be tested) drivers *unless* you're experiencing problems or lower performance than you'd expect. Then go looking at beta drivers newer than your WHQL ones for notes specifically referencing your problem or the game in question. If that doesn't solve the bugs you're experiencing, check the support forums for your game; they may recommend an *older* set of drivers, usually because some driver update broke something in their own game and they're still working on fixing the compatibility.

CPU performance is going to be far more important in larger battles, just wait until you see GPU utilization hit 0% when the NC shows up. ;) Still nice one Nvidia, red camp will just have to be patient as usual (7970 here)

heh. You're talking a couple year old, lower-end, mobile chip. I wouldn't get your hopes up too high and hope it scales really well.

To be quite honest with you these entire forums are stale as hell and the content quality has nosedived. Guess all you guys need something to do with those 4000K's and 795's?
Why so ser...... NO, I'm not going to.
On topic, this is quite interesting. Maybe a couple of weeks means a couple of weeks this time? Usually, as we all know, you always take a dev's statement and add a whole unit of time/period to it. A couple of months becomes a year, a couple of weeks becomes a couple of months, so on and so forth.
In the end, we'll see I guess. Bitter, you might say? NOPE. Excited? Oh boy.

Less than 5 years old and they expect it to run on 5 year old machines. Please DON'T assume you know the min specs until they're posted. Your post looks quite hypocritical that way.

My card can run Skyrim on Ultra with 2x draw distances, I'm not worried.
I can also run Battlefield 3 on High/Ultra, so again, not worried at all.
Bwahahaha I just checked their game benchmarks, what a joke. I can run The Witcher 2 on High graphics at 30fps, and that's one of the most demanding games for a GPU. My I5 2410m will also do just fine, I can run Shogun II on High with 400 units per card.
The only game I really have trouble with is Anno 2070, I can only do that on Medium when I have a 7,500+ population city.

Meh,my single 470 will do fine,I shall just turn up the volts to 1.212 and put the core over 900,jobs a good 'un as they say.
The reason I posted this is not to get peeps waving massive epeen around,it is more to the point that the beta must be due to drop any day now, otherwise NV would not have listed this in the driver notes,my guess is 2-3 weeks tops, otherwise NV have screwed up by making changes to this driver to suit PS2 far too early.

Ontopic, I'd say NVidia is just gearing up for the release. They must have the Sli driver based on the information the devs had given them. I'd guess beta is just around the corner....., (Peeks)..., no, sorry, it's not there :-(

I hope my 570 is beast enough :( it seems everyone has gotten a 670 :((((((((((((((( I want one.
Considering i have a 580 which only 1.2% of gamers on steam have and only 1.6% have a 570, I dont think you have to worry about your card not being enough. It will run on massively less. Plus keep in mind they will want it to eventually run on their new console which will be pathetically weak compared to those cards. And btw a 670 is basically on par with a 580 but needing far less juice so its only around 15% more powerful than your 570 depending on the game of course. In otherwords you arent missing much, so as long as you arent using a terribad cpu, then you should be able to max out the game or darn near it.

Crysis: 17% increase
BF3: 35% increase
2033: 24% increase
Ark City: 27% increase
Dirt 3: 25% increase
Portal 2: 31% increase
Skyrim: 11% increase
Shogun: 33% increase
Starcraft 2: 34% increase
It's a bit more than 15%. Around 26% for those games, but Skyrim is more CPU, no? (1080p)

you know, everyone here is repping nvidia, I wonder how well this will work out for my radeon hd 7850. : D Running a good system, amd 8120 cpu and a sabertooth 990fx motherboard. I just recently heard about the differences with this physx engine. You know... When I try and run 3dmark11 my physics test always seems a little slower than it should be. Anyone know how this will work out? I guess during beta they'll be looking for people running the competitions hardware, too?

i HAD two 470s. needed a wirless card for a few weeks. well installing it or something ruined the bottom vid card. pulled the wirless out, both water cooled cards worked much better. but forever cuts out every once in a while crashing the system :(
so i did what any in saine person would do. i took the wirless card. threw it into the wall. burned it with my lighter, submerged it and finnished it off with a hammer. made the whole computer watch, as a lesson to never break down because ill get irrational like that.
i then went and purchased a gtx690 and a bag of rice to eat for the month. :)

Put some foam around your head and keep bashing your head up because even if you have a Ps1 vets accont or if you have a PC gamer beta code you can still not have an invite in the first 2 waves i know it sucks but thats what higby said !
priority list do not means an access guarantee for the very first wave its priority list youll get in before E3 beta codes so yeah cross your finger to be choose in the very first wave !

well if your running a radeon card and it does happen to use a physx engine youll need a decent cpu to manage all the physics calculations, however, it may not, and the newer radeon cards 4--- series and up, I believe, support physics rendering through OpenCL. The catalyst drivers help with this. I just read all of this in a forum, www.overclock.net
