Saw these a while back, some interesting tidbits there.
Wonder why they chose PunkBuster for anti-cheat...

Yeah, now I remember where I saw these before, it was what sparked a.. well not huge, but large outcry against PunkBuster and how terrible it is.
However they did say later in response that PunkBuster was only one of the many systems they were considering to use.
I too do not know why they even bother with PunkBuster. I have no heard of any redeeming factors for it. PB is super terrible and proven not just useless in stopping anything more complicated that years old script kiddie type hacks it's also been used by hackers in many cases to actively punish legitimate players instead of the other way around.

Well there's no other alternative which is better. Besides making your own anti-hacking software entirely, which they might be doing as well.
What I personally don't get though is why the industry as a whole hasn't been able to succesfully target ArtificialGaming and that other hacking subscription website. I believe it's still that belgium dude HelioS who is running the show there and he was doing it back in the day with UT99 as well, but then for free and fun. How can Gabe get the cops to raid some german's kid house who hacked into the Steam servers but why can't the combined might of Valve, EA, SOE, etc. track down the owners and operators of these major hack websites and throw them in a deep dank dark jail for the rest of their lives? There will be other minor hackers but nothing as big as these and it'll send a good warning. I doubt many kiddies will want to take that risk on the same scale.
Digital piracy is harder to stop, since it's more complicated. Hacking though seems like a much easier legal case, you cause direct damage by illegally altering a company's product. I don't have any proof but I'd wager that hacking causes way more monetary damage to FPS games than piracy does.

Higby is right about the elite Outfit members talking shit about the Planetside 2 chatting system they got planned.
Personally I think is great that the chatting system will work in local areas, vehicles, etc.
Sadly all these elitist on these Planetside board are talking shit and won't give it a chance because they think the general population is lesser than them.

Sad, but true fact of it is that most of the time we ARE better than the general public.
I dunno where you live and play games at man, but whenever I go somewhere I'm continuously amazed by the sheer stupidity that my fellow humans can achieve.
Edit: And I'm not talking about knowledge or memorization. I mean reasoning ability.

Is funny that everybody I meet says the same thing.
Makes me wonder..Do I know all the geniuses of the population...or does everybody think they are superior.
I think higby idea is amazing...That's the game I have dreamed about, a MMOFPS, where people talk to eachother on voice chat...not just a persons outfit but everybody around.
Yet people will let their elitism get in the way and not even give it a chance.

It's a nice idea in theory but not in practice. They are talking about Vivox, which APB:R has as well. Here's a few problems:
- Worse quality
- Open to trolling. People who play retarded music over their mic, yell, scream, swear, troll, etc.
- Causes more lag than just running TS
- Less customization and options as TS, no individual control.
TS integration is a great idea though. And I could see Commander Rank + public voip work as well. But I'll be muting the public chat thats available for anyone the moment i start the game.

I unfamiliar with Vivox but I have faith that the quality won't be bad but I might be wrong.
Well I know about trolling and I do expect some trolls but I expect people to actually use it for benifit the team.....also mute button.
More lag?...Hmmm i don't know about that.

OT : Studies have shown that usually, people with the less knowledge on a topic are usually the ones who think they are doing great and know it all, they value their work high. People with knowledge and actually skilled will rate their work lower, and mainly see the flaws in what they do.
I always take the "I'm better than thou" attitude with this in mind :)
EDIT : listening to the video, is it me, or has T-Ray exactly the same voice as Mike Tomlin?

'Studies'.
Rating your work lower and seeing the flaws doesn't mean you cannot rate yourself as being better than the masses either. It simply means you are even better than you think you are, not that you think you're crap when you're actually really good ;)

...
You meet on the forums the part of the pop. that ready to read and learn. And that's make them a lot better than the rest. Not the forum readers are so good, but the rest is so weak. :(
I work ( and study) at a university as computer admin and it's stunning how the staff and even the professors do not want to learn anything about computers. They have to use it every day, yet they don't learn. My CS professor had problems opening a powerpoint slideshow, in a M.Sc. course.

I never made that claim, I simply provided commentary on your 'studies'. But you probably read those 'studies' just as accurately as you read my comment ;)

Damn, I need to dig out my sources just because I use the damn keyword "studies" and you jumped on it? I think it was "La Recherche", a newspaper I read @home, can't check it out from work....
So fyi, it was an actual documented thing :)
That said, I skimmed without reading the posts authors, you just seemd to defend the PoV of people being "generally better than the masses", ergo my confusion

Ah sweet thanks Hamma. Is there a way to go back to previous articles that aren't on the frontpage? I'm sure there is but I can't find it. When I go to read more at the bottom its for the last article.
