So after hearing the Vanu Sovereignty OST. OST
I tried to figure out why I didn't like it. I like electronic music a lot, but I just don't think the VS music is appropriate.
What I've realized is I don't think the current music is nearly militaristic enough. The music should feel like an army could march to war to it. And it just doesn't feel that way with the current music.

My suggestion instead, while certainly not perfect, would be something along the lines of segments of this Infected Mushroom track. IF

Now back this up with more electronic instrumentation more reminiscent of classical music, and less of Tron: Legacy and I think we'd have something much more appropriate.

Thoughts? Other tracks that you think would be good?

I definitely felt like the VS OST sounded more like rave music than an empire theme. I don't know much about techno-esque music, though. All I know is VS music is my least favorite.

It's not even rave music. It's a fairly transparent emulation of the Tron: Legacy and Deus Ex sound track. And while the music worked really well for both of those, I just don't think it works for large scale full pitched battle.

Vanu aren't suppose to be "militaristic", they're suppose to be "futuristic" and, personally, I feel the music reflects that. I just hope there's a lot more than 13 minutes! That's going to wear out very fast!

I did like the feel of the Vanu music myself. Maybe it's not militaristic, but it feels sort of science fictioney in the way the faction itself seems to be. Isn't it mostly going to be background music while in menus and such? At least those seemed to be the main times when I noticed any music in the E3 vids.

They are a futuristic *military.* Not dance club.

You haven't seen what we get up to in sanctuary.

The footholds will be a bit more public though, come see the pretty lights :):)

I think the current music would make fine sanctuary music, even though I'd prefer something much more memorable.
But for combat music? For watching columns of magriders push into a base? I mean load up some combat footage and compare the feeling of watching it while listening to the VS battle music to watching it with the TR music.

Electronic music is one of the biggest things in my *life* and I still think the VS music is weak.

I like it better than the NC:ost which sounds like some "butt rock" you would hear in a strip club.

I think the TR:ost sounds the best overall

I think the NC music will sound considerably better when they record the final version. All we've heard so far is the mock up. Though I do agree with you.

The current VS OST actually reminds me of Mass Effect.

Didn't Mass Effect use traditional instruments...?

Suggested replacement for the NC combat music (the guitar bit anyway, the rest of song is pretty VS I think):
Unreal Tournament - Razorback - YouTube

Suggested replacement for some of the vanu music:
Unreal Tournament 99 Soundtrack - Lock - YouTube

Yeah, I like the UT99 soundtrack.

The song you posted sucks LMFAO.

As for copying deus ex...No not even close, VS soundtrack copies Mass effect series more.

I don't want to see dubstep garbage in Planetside.

I know the third game did for the new songs (pretty much the only good part about ME3, lol). The first two games might have had some but for the most part I think it was electronic.

Quite a few of the VS songs actually remind me more of the House Ordos songs from Emperor: Battle for Dune.

Surely if you were going for an infected much-of-the-room track it would have to be Release me for the intro alone? :D
Release me - YouTube

I don't really mind the Vanu music per say

though it could be a little more lively.

and please...NO Dubstep...it wont fit

VS music rocks. I dunno why you want to turn a futurustic "couldn't care less" type of music into "WE ALL SERVE THE VANU GOD OMGOMGOMG" marvhing. VS tracks are the best.

Especially the first combat music.

EDIT: @OP - Do you actually play VS?

See I hear this music and can see a video of some outfit fighting with this in the background. I like it a lot.

I know it's not militaristic but the VS aren't really all that militaristic.

regarding the music though.

I think the main thing for me is that the Music is dynamic.

So if suddenly 20 enemy tanks roll into the battle I want the music to reflect that.

I don't want high energy battle music playing if i'm skulking around in empty space with an infiltrator by myself.

so perhaps one type of battle music for small skirmishes which escelates to more chaotic battle music when it gets to heavy player count chaos stuff.

speaking of which, battle is chaos. war is confusion. i think the music should have some of that in it.

This is the track i think sums up that ideal pretty well - and it's got that technology edge for the Vanu

Your problems can be easily solved by not playing for the VS, you fairy.

I'd pay if they could make it that something like this:

played every time combat started. (armored core ost FTW, it even fit vanu with giant future robot)
