Over the last few months, I have been nerding out to my girl who is a gamer in a sense that she has tried about every new MMORPG out there since 2004. She has given a chance to EVE Online, Rift, Vangaurd, SWTOR, EQ2, and a few others. For the sanity of this I have gotten her to try CS:S (she did ok) and CoD: MW2 (She did horrible).

Well... in our talks I have left her so many pages of words via msn about PS2, (we live 18 hours apart atm) that my English professor would be PROUD. I really put the hurt on her in explaining just how passionate I am about this game, and how much as a gamer the original has meant. So, tonight I really laid it on her. I talked about all the new videos, information and interviews since E3. Specifically I pointed out many things about the interview with Smed, and how much I love what he has planned as well as how I would probably do horribly gay things with Higs and his Higs hair.

Well... She wants to try Vanu if she even TRIES PS2. I am through and through NC. So I tell her... For you, I will, somehow, manage to teach you the Planetside ways in the Vanu colors (Purple and green are her favorite colors HA). She goes "YESSS" and I explain to her JUST how very very deep the blood goes with this. I tell her "It’s like... playing the Horde for six years and only the horde... and one day someone you love convinces you to switch to the Alliance. It’s about a thousand times the controversy in your mind as a Planetside player. You’re likely to log in, see purple around you, and say "SHREW THIS NOISE VANU = THE SUX I'm OUT!" lol... Yes?

So, this is about one thing.

Love, would you switch factions for someone you love? Betray those brothers and those loyalties you have made for the many years past well before meeting this magnificent woman?

I really do wish I had the balls to link all of you the 30 minutes’ worth of writing I just did to her about it and her replies lol.

Even then there are things she does not like, for instance flying etc. The trick is to make it sorta social, and easy. She likes to be a gunner, so she gets kills, but doesnt need to bother with a damn map, or stuff like that.

I suggest you play VS with your obviously more intelligent, and wise girlfriend. Then play NC, when she isnt playing with you. This way you can get the NC fix, and when she shows up, she can continue to correct your misguided path... Before you know it, she will have saved you from a miserable career as a ruffian misfit. Finally, when you are fully purple, you will no longer be blue, missing her... :D

That said, we played WoW to 70 together (we quit when our daughter was born because we didn't have the time and haven't gone back) and I played a Shaman while she played a Rogue.

She played a Rogue almost exclusively so she could hide when Horde showed up. Though it was quite often that she would stealth up and I would get attacked by someone thinking a lone Shaman would be easy pickins'.

It was adorable to hear her squeak and watch her eyes get all wide as she then backstabbed and stunlocked the bastard, dumping every ounce of firepower into him she could manage, while I self-healed and made with the shock spells. After he was dead she'd be breathing quick and still trembling.

Wise Vanu says that to foster healthy relationship, this couple must both roll NC and VS on different servers so that neither of you suffers from unhealthy build-up of unreleased tension. Over time, unreleased tension can eat away at basis of good relationship.

My wife plans to try PS2. She's playing Skyrim for the time being. She plays DayZ as long as I'm online with her.

She's not super excited about PS2, but she doesn't get super excited for specific games until after they come out. Probably something I should try... except we wouldn't have a pair of shiny beta keys to share if I hadn't been super excited about PS2. :)

As for faction... I'm already playing with GOTR, so purple is set in stone. She'd probably play any faction with me though.

The TR don't have this issue. My wife firmly supports me and my efforts on the front. My kids have been taught with the best schooling my Empire has to offer. Oh man, my girlfriend just rolls her eyes when I show her the PS2 videos and tell her about the game.

I am also desperate for a new laptop to play PS2 on. I went as far as laying the ground work over time introducing her slowly to the idea of giving her my old laptop now, then her "contributing" to a new (gaming) laptop that we could....share later on.

It is a rather weighted question.

I mean, look at what happened to Anakin Skywalker when he swapped sides to be with his girlfriend :P

But in all truth, when you first log in to Planetside 2, there's no better time to start experiencing the other factions. The game will be brand new, there's new players, new faces, people are excited to play, people are trying out all the factions with you, and you can play with your girlfriend while you both get a feel for things... that sounded weird, you and your girlfriend can get more familiar with the different factions. It may end up being inevitable, she may love the Vanu and their purple sleek and flashy stuff, while you hold true to the faction you spent years with, but at least you tried to be more open minded.

I'm serious about being open minded when it comes to this. Stop thinking about how good it felt to laugh at the Vanu when there were none left to argue with, stop comparing the nagatives of the other factions with the positives of the NC's perspective, and think of the positives of all factions.
