I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but I like studying maps(in this case PS2 maps) and finding where some pretty cool fights will go on.
For one example on Indar, if you look to the very bottom, there is a sort of "bay" area between the TR and NC. And there is a slim territory of two hexes directly above it. I bet the small two hex territory in between will be a place of a lot of conflict, and I want to see how the two factions use the bay to their advantage.
Find any other neat areas where you think it will get interesting? Please post them here.

Def looks like there are gonna be some cool areas that will be conducive to good stories.
I just worry that the middle areas will be the primary fight locations and there won't be fights at certain spots, barring any unforeseen ceasefire or severe tactical oversights.

We'll see if its worth worrying about when we get into beta
As for that little 2 hex spot, when I look at it on the map without overlay it looks like the little facility is either on top of or inside of a little plateau, accessible by two bridges from opposite directions. That sounds interesting to me!

Looking at the map there are plenty of areas where a good outfit could possibly flank an enemy stronghold and cut them off. See how they do without any war resources.

I'm hoping that the resource system will provide incentives for taking the fight to more remote areas of the map. I imagine that the developers would do their best to make sure that every area has strategic value either geographically or economically. If the outfits are doing their jobs well and paying attention to the map, I have no doubt that we will see some interesting battles all over the continent.

We know that the zerg (theres been a massive discussion about this term and i don't know what it means anymore. lol) will go for the middleish areas, it is up to the outfits to scuttle round the left or right and take what is needed.
I am confident in the strategies that teamwork will bring forth. We just need to wait till open beta when there is 2000 fighting.

100% agree... If Vanu manage to push that far, that bay would be a critical location for us, since our immunity to interference from water obstacles is a signature attribute. I suspect that it will be treated like the other water masses I saw on the other maps... I hope anyway.

That island to the left, if it is not out of bounds would make for some ToD type fun times. Holdout as long as you can. Just bring enough Galaxies and Sundys.. which makes wonder will the Galaxy be able to give the Bus a ride? Sad face if we have no way to transport armor via air.
Given the second map, if it is a later encarnation... then it looks like gilligan's island has been designed out. Hopefully it is still there, though.

That looks like high ground to me and any Mags in the bay will just sit in the bay. Dont think the mags will be able to make it inland from there. If anything they will just be targets for NC and TR AV or artillery .

I thought this too. Of course there will be major areas of contention but hopefully the front lines will be dynamic with an equal struggle between the factions.
Also, if you want to fight somewhere less well known then just go there and cause some trouble. I guarantee the defending faction will show up. :D

Well I just figured because hes flying from the tech facility in the canyon area to the tree area (they should name the sub zones...), it hit out of bounds indicating the edge of the map, and the tree area has been stated to be a highlands area. Just makes sense to me, unless I'm talking about the completely wrong area. I'm talking about the large empty inlet on the south side of the map that is part of the barrier between the two subzones.

That is the exact location as he flies under that bridge too.
One spot I believe will be a continuous and alright warzone
Is the area between the zervan amp station and the biodome in the highlands. There is a main southern access road leading from VS territory and a bridge crossing it east to west with a small facility to the north at the mouth of the road and one on the easten side of the bridge opposite the dome..
That place will be a constant fight.
Note: The topography (particularly in the south east [TR] also appears to be designed to channel large groups of tanks along very specific roads, ridges, bridges etc etc which should lead to some nice ambushes.

Interesting areas for me include the TR and NC spawning areas. There will be a lot of conflict there as the VS will have them pushed all the way back. ;)

NC looks by far the easiest to push back to spawn and keep there :/ TR have a back door and VS are on open ground while NC is backed into a corner.

The more I look at the map it really look like it would be a bunch of steep cliffs going down to the water, no place for a mag or anything else. It still would be great if that area was not out of bounds so air could still travel over. Even better if it had a bridge going over it, you'd be fucked if you happened to fall off:rofl:

Seems to be none or very little cliffs on the VS north. So its probable that the Mags will be able to pull back into the ocean regroup and come back in. Advantage VS.

Am I right in thinking that the NC and TR footholds are closer to each other than to the VS foothold?
If they are, then we can expect to see the NC and TR zergs going straight for each other's throats on the south side of Indar. That could give an advantage to the VS who could choose to assault down both the west and east coasts for both enemy footholds.
Maybe the centre of the map won't be the meat-grinder everyone is expecting?

I do find it a little concerning that each empire seems to rest in a different biom of sorts. From what we have seen in footage and screens it seems like the upper light brown area is more open land, the more green area is trees and canyons and littered with cover and the other rocky area is more canyons and elevation. It would be lame if each empire was sort of stuck into an area that catered to a certain type of fight.

Yeah, the different biomes are intended for different fight styles. VS terrain seems suited to armour with flat desert areas like North Africa in WW2. El Alamein here we go!
Malorn had the idea that the NC are f**ed because everyone likes to fight in green areas, and they got the green area!
(I have to say I preferred fighting on the green continents)

I agree the green areas look cooler for sure.
It would just be pretty sad to me if as Vanu I'm constantly fighting on open ground tank based areas. And I'm always stuck looking at barren desert where another empire gets something more interesting.
I don't think switching up the faction footholds would be too hard, and they might even plan on doing so.

that will be super interesting to see. I know there have been threads discussing the possibility of changing the foothold locations but it would definitely require a server reset so mmmmmm idk. Maybe though! If I'm stuck looking at sand 24/7 as Vanu I'll probably be for it.

How would they sort hex ownership? Bit of a pain if they all revert to neutral?
Maybe different servers will have different factions in each foothold?

I sure hope we get grid references. Because i didn;t like it in COD, maps too small. Would have liked it in BF3, but they never added it. So developers. Please add continent wide grids, then hex grids so that in a hex, we can co-ordinate effectively. Thank you.

Seeing you all write about tactical attacks and stuff ...
I really hope this works out the way we imagine.
BF3 failed horribly at it, new audience treating every match as a TDM, no
matter what the actual objectives really are.
"Oh, there's an objective to capture - awww, screw it, i need to boost my KDR !"

My brother said one time that this game will probably end up being a massive version of COD, i could see that happening, but i feel with enough PS1 players, and people that like tactics. We will still see lots of strategy and such. (I hope)
Edit: And even if a game doesn't have tactics, like COD, you will still have people that will employ them, like me and my friends, and BF3 we would have plans and such for attacking objectives.

If massive teamwork and tactical tools are available, we will make it happen.
Mission system, minimap waypoints, ingame VoIP channels would be the
absolute minimum. With those things in place i have faith we will be able
to give the game the right direction.
Nothing wrong with a few clusterfuck meatgrinder fans - every army needs
some cannon fodder. But we also need guided warfare.

To be fair, I have seen a lot of COD players attempt to strategize but it doesn't really work imo because of the game itself. BF3 had more tactics, but ultimately it was taken by COD syndrome. With the size of PS2's continents and the mission system to guide the zerg, I don't see it being an issue.
Also, an even fight is rare so often it will be tactical players winning.

Looks like 3 Tech Plants, Vanu at F3, TR at E7, and NC at B5. I think I read or heard that you need a tech plant for galaxies, so hitting those would probably be a priority. It looks like NC has the most defensible one by virtue of being away from the front. It's tough to tell between the Vanu and the TR tech plants which is more vulnerable, the TR's is right in the path of any NC zerg, and the VS tech plant is the path of any TR zerg.

From looking at the map it seems that we have 3 types of bases: AMP, Biolab, and Tech. Each of the sides has one of the base types in their territory. So that thing in BC2 is probably a biolab.
