Just a thought this and I'm not sure if its already been discussed!
I'm thinking purely in future terms here and I mean way into the future. This idea came to me after watching the farewell Planetside video on the PSU home page (which I will add was a marvellous piece of work!).
Whilst I'm looking forward to PS2, I think it'd be cool idea to have the opportunity to play on PS1 continents as a PS2 player in some kind of event? In the distant future of course once the game is released and is settled. Whether that would mean completely re-modelling a PS1 continent for PS2 purposes or possibly an event which takes you back to the old Planetside game engine entirely for a day.
Working in the 3D industry myself, I understand the logistics of such a move would be a huge task but I thought it'd be a rather original/unique proposal that could be looked into in the future!
What does everyone think?
TBH PS1 conts are lack luster compared to Indar. If the trend continues with all the other new conts being the same quality as Indar I don't want to go back to PS1 conts. Even if its only for a event.
Besides as you mentioned its far too much work anyway. Seems like way too much work for a random event.

We don't need to go back to PS1's engine, just reuse the cont. I would like to see the battle islands make a return!
On the subject of events, what about having meteor showers? Or other astronomical events, like comets or eclipses. Wait... Auraxis is orbiting a planet, We could have an extended night cycle while we pass through it's shadow!

What? Never?
Yes the PS1 continents as they stand are an age ago in terms of quality and design but still, I think it'd be an interesting concept to trapse around on PS1 as a PS2 player at some point in the future.
I'm sure many others would like the idea, it would also give new Planetside players to get the chance to experience the history of the game.
Anyway purely thinking out loud here.
I'm with Goku, probably not worth the effort. On the other hand, I think we can count on many more continents inspired, perhaps heavily, by PS1 maps. I think that'd be even better, referencing and perhaps even copying some areas of PS1 maps, but tailored to PS2's style of combat and territory.

I want all the PS1 maps on PS 2. We are the customers and if enough of us ask for that I and sure they will pay attention.

Why?
What so special about having every single PS1 continent available on PS2? That wasn't the point of my thread by the way.
PS1 players should have the opportunity to guide and present ideas to the PS2 team (which they are). On the other hand whilst PS1 players are paying to play at the moment and have done many years beforehand (as have I) it doesn't mean (I don't think) they have the right to dictate the way in which the development of the game goes.
I'd feel pretty embarrassed telling a team of professionals how to design a game, I'd just hope they would take any ideas I had on board. I wouldn't be so aggressive and use a stance such as yours.

Well what I ment is that this is what I, and I'm sure a few others would like to see. So my point is that some people are saying that this would not be worth SOE's time, or resources. But I'm saying that if a big enough percentage of players would like that to happen, as customers SOE would surely pay attention to us.

This is what gets me narked.
Just because we pay to play doesn't mean SOE have to meet our demands/expectations in PS2. Your paying for an entertainment service, not a say in the development of the next title.
Whilst in development an existing user base input is extremely important but there should be none of this expectation that we are somehow entitled to a say in the development of PS2 because we pay a subscription fee for PS1 every month.
