View Full Version : I can haz swamp? Oh, and other things you would like to see in in-game environments.

I keep hearing tell of 3 continents.

One, will presumably be a temperate forested environment, and another will be an icy tundra.

However, I would really like to see a cqc environment, that has reduced visibility through either natural phenomena(dust storm, mist/haze off a swamp), or (insert thing that reduces visibility). Something that has people slowly creeping forward, constant radio checks to avoid friendly fire, on edge for the possibility of an ambush, and then...

Well I would also like to see mini-map interference, where the mini-map is wrong, and you do not show up on the over-world map. Something to actually make people use those grid coordinates on the map.

Overall, there are many things I hope for, and would like to see in Planetside 2. However, one thing that has always disappointed me in video games, is the lack of creative environments. A sin that many, many first person shooters are doubly guilty of.

So please, PS2 team be creative :thumbsup:

I think we are going to see different zones of environment in different areas of each continent. So one might have high cliffs and plateaus on the East side with rolling hills and forests on the West. I think we'll see plenty of different kinds of terrains to make use of :) I'm particularly looking forward to barren wastes reminiscent of WWI battles ^^

Even on Indar they have 3 different biomes. It has a desert canyon, a savanah-ish area (mix of dirt/sand with trees and grasses, then a flat seabed area. So yes the over all theme is a desert, but there is a bit of variety. So i wouldnt imagine there not being the same variety on the other two continents.


Plus they never ruled out adding more later.

Snow, that's all I want!. Although I think a thick jungle terrain would be very interesting to play in as well, especially with the weather effects they may be adding in.

Thick jungles would be pretty cool, hopefully Amerish has some.

A really mountainous continent would be cool too, huge changes in altitude and mountain passes etc.

Well, MOAR SNOW of course, but since I already got Esamir, wouldn't mind seeing some type of Archipelago like Cyssor, only with MOAR BRIDGES!!!

The Devs have some sort of super awesome dynamic weather system in the works (or planned, its definately been mentioned in a few videos) where, on Indar for example, Dust Storms and shit like that can crop up, which combined with the persistant smoke/detritus/whatever from a prolonged firefight which builds up and clogs the air too, will give some very claustrophobic scenarios...Dunno if any of that affects electronic stuff, like sensors, HUDs or mini-maps or whatever...But something might (hell, just start launching jammer grenades or something about :D)

They've also mentioned that they've handcrafted the continents, and some areas will favour certain vehicles...Whether they've made areas that favour troops (like a dense jungly area as you say) i dunno.

But yeah, im looking forward to seeing all the different biomes/continent designs in action...Hopefully there will be something to suit all tastes with more to come later in the game.

List of the eviroments i would like to see:
Jungle,
Deserert,
Urban settings,
snow maps,
swamp maps,
vulcanic maps,
and maybe also some areas over crowded with fallen debrees from space ships.

about environment/visibility:

in the desert on indar the overall visibility seems to be reduced due to lot of dust in the air. in one video where tb or matt flys across the map very high you can see that the dust inflicts some kind of fog. i am ure we will have a crystal clear view in forest-biomes.

what i would like to see is a place with strange huge and extremely colorful flora. like one of the planets in starwars epIII where order 66 is executed and the jedis are slaughtered by their clonetroopers.

these are all the concept art so far ive seen about the continents and one is Biodome inside No in game release yet on all of those

I really hope they add in swamps like the first game. Some of my best memories are training up my mossie skills by flying under and between those super-terranean roots.

Urban environments. There must be places where people live or lived on the planet, but there seems to be nothing but towers, bunkers and facilities. I'd like to see a big city.. even if its just the ruins of the city after years of fighting, but something to fight through that isn't just all natural.

Perhaps a series of towns and villages surrounded by agricultural land - marked fields, hedgerows, small patches of woodland. Make Auraxis seem like a planet that people actually lived on.

I would love to fight on a continent with an active volcano instead of dormant one like Searhus. At random times it'll erupt and cause debris clouds and falling rocks that can damage us. And when I say debris clouds, I mean like this:

I would love to see environments made to favor specific unit compositions on a big scale. Deserts would heavily favor vehicles in general, swamp (dense forest?) to cut out or severely limit flyers, Urban ruins would be great for Infantry focused. That just from what was already mentioned, but you could really tailor it to whatever unit mix you wanted. Bad terrain with some sort of cover could be infantry only, open skies with bad terrain would make air control vital, that kind of thing.

I want Searhus please. Nothing like fighting around lava lakes in the caldera of an active volcano, it was by far the most dramatic and memorable environment in the first planetside.
