In honor of the new political debate forum opening, I'm starting a thread to take back the lounge for non-political purposes! This thread is intended for the most pointless things you can think of without resorting to spam. Or maybe even some pointless debate about something non-political. It's good clean fun, I tell you.

This thread not resorting to a spam threat would surprise me

I never did get to plan that MW, but my friend said it was better than the MW2 I had. I got to play MW4, and liked it also.

But I didn't like MW online, the mechs just move too slow. Unless I took my Firefly with 1 small laser, and all the rest jump packs! I could get up to ~325 kph!

My favorite Mechwarrior game was the original Mechwarrior 2. Mostly because it had the Maurauder/Zentradi Officers Battlepod.

I was an avid Battletech player/miniture painter and collector up until FASA stopped using the Stinger, Wasp, Pheonix Hawk, Archer, Warhammer, Cursader and Marauder due to lawsuit after lawsuit from Harmony Gold. Since it was decided that Harmony Gold did not own the rights to the designs (Big West entertainment of Japan did and they never cared who used them) FASA had every right to use them, but Harmony Gold kept taking them to court time after time. FASA just decided to drop them to save on lawyers fees.

Unfortunately, now that Wizards of the Coast has ownership of the Battletech franchise, I see no chance that the good ol' ripoffs will come back. Neither will Ral Partha likely release a Pheonix Hawk LC2 miniature.

Similar to some people saying the Pheonix is a riopoff of the Redeemer, if you rip something off and make something quality out of it, who cares? It's still good. Granted, creatively original thinking is cool, but that's where we got the "modern" art craze of the that 80s/early 90s. Some artists should be shot.

except for that little problem that mechassault gets owned badly by almost any other mechwarrior game

Mech Warrior is the only true Mech sim. Mech Assault is just an action game geared toward casual players.

Clan mechs have differant name designations in the Inner Sphere and within the clans.

That said, I prefer the game back in the 3250 and 3251 vehicle sourcebooks. None of this clan tech crap. Straight up big guns and nothing but. The Ferret recon helo was a lot of fun in the table top game. It go so many bonuses for how fast it moved that I never once had one shot down. Sure, it only had a machine gun, but it was fun to pester small mechs in their rear armor locations. The Savanna Master 1/2ton tank was also very cool for this. Med laser shots to the back of anything under 30 tons qwn.

I love Mechwarrior games, but I never seem to have money to buy them when they come out. I also liked the Earthsiege games, that was some sweet Mech action too.

What about the ugly offspring of the Mechwarrior series (after Activision lost the contract) the Heavy Gear series. I personally kindof liked them, though the gears in the game operated more like souped up Mechs from battletech than they should have. They're were supposed to be much more agile if you followed the tabletop game. I suppose if you put a Heavy Gear in the context of PS, they were like a double sized MAX armor.
