View Full Version : PS2 Computer Spec Survey

Hey guys. I basicaly have two accounts ready for PS2. One of which is my PS1 veteran account which I have not used a Beta key for. The other is a normal account which is 'active' due to a PCGamer Beta key. I recieved an email for my beta key account asking for my PC specs, however when I click 'share specs' from the email, it just takes me to the beta page saying:

'You have already signed-up for the PlanetSide 2 Beta program. If your email address has changed since you signed up, please update it in Account Management so that we can send you the latest updates on the Beta program, including how to jump in if you are selected.'

Clearly this hasnt shared my specs. On my veteran account I havent even recieved an email, which is frustrating as I would expect my veteran account to have earlier access than beta key account. Anyone else having these issues or know of a solution?

Cheers

So Im wondering just how much of a difference are the person system going to do in order of them to get ahead of other people.

Obviously a person who signed in yestarday won't get ahead of everybody but...People who have signed up for a while and have the better specs for testing, could get a bump IMO.

So Im wondering how big of a bump will those people get?

Also what are the devs looking for?.....Are they looking for rare combo of systems or are they looking for the most common systems?

and if so what are the most common and what are the most rare?

I put the same system specs for all my 3 accounts...maybe I should of done it different.

Just put real specs. You are doing it to help testing, not to start playing earlier. There wont be that much playing in there test as you think. And if you put fake specs you wont be helping them.

I'd say just to be honest. They will need a wide range of specs, so as long as we're vets and/or have a PCGamer key, we'll get in soon enough.

If they need people with high specs at first, it won't help anything to have a lying low spec player. If they are really looking to target low spec performance for one of the tests, it wont be much use to have a high spec machine giving invalid feedback.

So just be honest. If you have multiple beta keys and multiple computers, maybe use one computer for each. You will be helping them out as well, giving a wider range of specs to test on.

But beyond that, just be honest.

Probably they will take a mix of all. But especially mid and low specs I would guess. If someone has an 670 and 32 gigs of RAM he will get a good performance anyway.

I think they will ask you run a benchmark, to see what fps you get, with which specs. If a lot of people do that you can get to know what the minimum specs are, and what effects you fps the most. (How much fps difference between two identical systems but one with more RAM?)

And you should definetely fill in your real specs, they will need a wide range, and you do this to help improving the game, not to get in quickly.

bjorntju1
2012-06-26, 04:48 PM
They want high to low-end. You can do the survey and act like you have the most awesome system on earth. But they need every range of system. So I think everyone has an equal chance.

So, like you, I clicked on the link in the email, and got taken to the page telling me that I had already signed up!

Boo - There was no survey button in sight!

However, having read through the Producers letter thread, there was a little nugget of info! (Can't remember who posted it though, so can't give credit - Will go back and edit when I do)

So, here's how I find the survey link! Step 5 is the important bit!

1. Visit www.planetside2.com
2. Click "Sign Up for Beta" (even if you've already done it, or submitted a key)
3. Log in with your Station Account
4. You should be now presented with a screen that will allow you to take a system survey - Complete and you're ready to go! Just need to wait on the email!!

5. If you are presented with a screen telling you you've already signed up with the beta and have no option for the survey, you need to change you're browser language to English US (weird I know, but do it)

6. Once you've changed the language, start at step 1 again, and you should now be presented with the survey option. Win Sauce

EDIT: All credit to meepr - he (she?) was the one that posted first about this in the Beta Producers Letter thread

I originally got the message people are getting above, but changed a few things and then got to the survey again..

I turned down my privacy settings to allow all cookies (the account management page kept telling me i didnt have cookies allowed).

Someone in another thread mentioned something about the language choice of your browser having an effect. So i went to languages in the browser otion, added English[US] and moved it to the top. I then closed out of internet explorer and loaded the page back up and this time i could complete the survey.

Hope that helps.

Just be honest and put in the specs you have. It's bad enough we have people using their vet status + PCGamer key(s) and whatever other keys they have to get in. For all we know, the same guy could get in 3 or more times, and that's several slots wasted to improve one guy's chances.

I'm not counting on that guy to offer any feedback of any kind what-so-ever unless it's negative (people can't help but bitch at the drop of a hat.)

However... every impersonal invitational system has an exploit, and people are just too darn selfish to consider others.

I don't think there's any wrong answers here anyway, just answers.

Truthfully there's no way to know if lying about your stats will help, for all you know your actual stats could get you in and saying they're higher might not. If anything at each wave of invites, they'll take equal numbers from varying groups of specs, from low end to high end. So I highly doubt lying about your specs makes any difference whatsoever.

Actually I think if you choose Core2Duo and below and a Geforce 7000 series you will most likely not get in the game, they said the minimum specs would be something like a Core2Duo and a 9800GTX and that's when it will be optimized. You will still get in the beta but I think they won't choose you first.

The better thing though would have been to use the old Dxdiag thing, harder to lie with it.

RadarX, I have a predicament. I have two machines that I want to test Planetside 2 on, one of them is a Dell Inspiron 14R with an integrated graphics card that can barely run CS:S and the other is an XPS with some decent specs that can run Red Faction: Guerrilla on the highest settings that I also intend on upgrading before release. Is there a way for me to register the specs of both machines or is there one that I should stick with over the other?

Can you state with 100% certainty you will select Humans?

Since bots claimed 90% of the beta keys, that would be discrimination!

We can't discuss any aspect of the Beta selection process.

I never asked about selection, I was asking if there was any information you could give us about how soon the lower end machines could enter the beta without having framerate issues.

Also, damn you and your secrets. :D

Maybe they want to be sure they have a lot of english speakers for the first rounds of the closed beta? Plus the fact there maybe won't be any EU server for some time. Or maybe I'm looking too far and it's just something bizarre.

man, i really hate it when companies don't script for IE ...

Okay, so:
a) Must have english set as language in browser (at least for IE) if you
don't do that you will never get to the survey.

b) Opening the site in IE it always tells me that my browser doesn't accept
cookies, although it very much does accept cookies ... not even with low
privacy settings it works. -> Firefox exclusive as it seems.
(For Quake Live / BF Heroes i also had to use Firefox)

I did it easily in Chrome on two different machines. People seem to be having problems at random based on various browser settings.

(I didn't get an email, but just hit the sign up for beta button again and got the survey, using Chrome with (American) English)

On the What OS do you use? question, Windows 8 was conspicuously absent. Though I will probably "upgrade" to 7 at some point (Say, Januaryish).

Also, the graphics card question is remarkably vague. There's a huge difference between the low-end (integrated) cards in each series and the high-end cards.

Hosp
2012-06-27, 12:26 PM
RE the vid cards, they all share the same pack of drivers in a series. So the survey may only be directed toward that and not specific cards. (at least for Nvidia, I don't use ATI).

However, do i have to goto SOE customer service to see if I'm even still signed up? Tried using 2 different browsers on 2 different comps and it's not saying I'm already signed up like it used to. Though i can take the survey just fine.

The emails are still in process. I just got the one for my work email about 10 minutes ago. If you've signed up you should get one.

I still haven't received it. It's almost been a whole day since the e-mails have been sent out. I already did the survey yesterday so that isn't the problem. But I am afraid I can't receive PS2 e-mails, and thus wont receive the e-mail for the beta when I get invited.

When I click "Sign Up" I get this every time:

"Thank you for signing up for the Planetside 2 beta. Please click on the button below to complete the survey regarding your current computer specifications. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you in the game soon!"

I fill out the survey and submit it. Then I can repeat it over and over again. This makes me very unsure of whether or not I'm actually signed up for Beta. :(

I have a question. I activated a key from twitter on my vet account. Does that override my vet status?

I had another variation on this.

In IE7 I deleted all history (temp. files, cookies, forms, passwords, everything!) and closed all browser windows. Then when I opened the PS2 site I got a rollover screen I hadn't seen before asking me to sign up for beta. Did that, signed in and I got the "Take Survey" button.

Now, back in March I mistakenly registered a new account on Station when resubbing. That account still didn't get the survey even after a history wipe. So I did the language trick and it worked! (this last was in Firefox)

Hello, bjorntju,

Thank you for contacting Sony Online Entertainment. I took a look at your account and everything appears to be working correctly. As long as you have access to the email that we have on file you should be good to go. If you're unable to provide your system specs via the survey in the email, or you didn't receive the email, you can always provide it to us manually. I have included instructions below on how to include your system's information in the attachment of this help request.

Original message:

Hello,

I have a question. I signed up for the PlanetSide 2 beta a long time ago. But I have a problem, I hear people are receiving e-mails about a survey they can take about their computer specs. But I still haven't received that e-mail. The problem isn't that I can't take that survey, since I already did that via the PS2 website ''manually''. But I am worried I can't receive PlanetSide 2 e-mails. And thus won't receive the beta invite e-mail when I am selected. I don't have SOE in my blocked contacts list. And it is also not in my spam folder. I also have PlanetSide 2 checked in my e-mail preferences.

Can you check my account (bjorntju) to see if there is something wrong. Or are not all e-mails sended out yet? Maybe I am overreacting, but I am really looking forward to this game and it would pretty suck if I get invited to the beta, but don't get the e-mail that I am invited. (I also played PlanetSide 1, if that matters)

Thanks in advance,

Bjorn

So we probably have notihng to worry about :)

Ok guys, don't get your hopes up, it's just a speculation

By reading alot of posts i concluded that some people did, and others did not receive the system spec survey e-mail. And also i noticed that people who did not receive the e-mail also couldn't take the survey by just logging in, it would just say: You have already signed up for beta!

And considered that they stated that the tech beta phase was close, it could be possible that they may be already picking people who might participate in it.

If this is true, I'm sorry for the guys who didn't get it. But it would mean we are getting closer to beta.

What are your thoughts on this?

ps. Sorry if this has been brought up before(that tends to happen to me alot)

Also the issue where people couldnt retake the survey was due to a browser localisation issue (if you didnt have english(US) set as your browsers language then it would not let you take the survey.

Which reminds me I need to update it as just got more RAM :)

I think the reason people couldn't take the survey was because they had some settings wrong in their browser. As in why not everyone has received their e-mail. I don't know. I find it odd also since it can't take that long to send out e-mails. But I am almost 100% sure this doesn't has to do with the selection process.

I sended CS a question and this is what I got back:

The you have already signed up for beta! is server side, that can't be browser problems. Their server has just not authenticated you as someone who is able to take the survey

This could be because of:

1. It has not been processed yet(like radar said)

2. They don't want too much people to be able to choose from, and Radar just said that because they don't want us to know what they're up to, which would be understandable(highly unlikely though, but possible)

bjorntju1
2012-07-02, 06:05 PM
There were browser problems, people changed their language (or whatever it was) and then the survey did work. There were also people who received e-mails were the survey didn't work. And again, I never got an e-mail. But it was possible to do the survey the first time I tried. Also RadarX said that everyone should receive the e-mail.

It probably doesn't mean nothing, and the CS told me I am ''good to go''. Maybe RadarX can shed some light on this, so we know what the deal is.

Doubt it's a problem, I think it relinks the survey in case you upgrade your system, then the devs get an updated survey as well.

I think it has been mentioned before but probably worth doing so again for fresh eyes on this thread... Make sure you have your browsers language set to English US before you either click the link in the email or the sign-up button on PS2.com

It has been stated on twitter that they are looking into who it is happening, but I don't think it has been fixed yet.
