Platoon size?

Smedley says that Platoons will be 100 people (10 squads of 10). This is an official announcement, source below. What I am wondering is if anyone has heard anything else (with a source please) that would show this may have just been Smedley mis-speaking.

Smedley and ... someone else, have said as recently as E3 that Platoons are up to 100 people.

Aparently outfit members may be visible on the map/minimap regardless of if they are squadded or not.

Smed said 10 squads in a platoon (100 players), put pretty much everywhere else, even more recent stuff post Smedterview, have said 3 squads in a platoon (30 players).

Considering how much we have heard the latter, and that it's what PS1 had, I'm going to assume it will be the same as PS1 until we see for certain otherwise.

I wouldn't mind 100 man platoons though.

My only problem with a 100 man platoon is its no longer a platoon but a company sized element. This is the vet in me coming out I guess.

100 is too much. 40 or 50 max would be okay though. Since they change the galaxy to hold two squads (20 soldiers) I think the platoon size should increase as well

Platoon should to me be 30-50 or so people fill up to and call it a Company.

I guess you can form a platoon with as little as thirty people, but you can have as many as 100 in your platoon. Thats kind if the way Im reading it.

that doesn't really make sense because that you mean you couldn't join up 2 squads or even 3 partially full squads.

Think about that, guys. That means 7 platoons per continent per empire.

That's not nearly enough organizational units to cover the front line, so you'd be having multiple *facility* objectives per platoon. That's just way too messy.

If each squad is led by a sergeant then the platoon leader would be able to direct each squad to there appropriate objectives. Having a well ordered hundred man platoon would be a monster on the battlefield.

Then dont allow 100 in your platoon. Keep your platoon smaller and let the larger platoons falter. Strategy and freedom to run a battlefield as leaders see fit is the best way. What may not work for you may work for others.

SoE hopes to create a parallel feel for outfits that’s like the US military, for players to recognize outfits for what they do, like how the 101st Airborne Division is known. To help with the identity, Outfits will be able to customize the look of their armor and vehicles. Leaders (with the right certifications) will be able to unlock abilities and customize the skill tree for the Outfit. Drilling down, an Outfit can have more than one Division, so they can have for example, a light assault Division, an Engineering Division and etc. Group play will be the same with 10 to a squad, but in addition, platoons of up to four squads can be formed.

Platoon-30-50
Company-100
Battalion(Outfit)-500-1000

...or The Rule of threes. Everyone has three guys under thier command.
Fire Team leader has 3 Riflemen
Squad Leader has 3 Fire Team leaders
Platoon Commander has 3 Squad leaders.

Josh Hackney mentioned 100 man platoons in an E3 interview, and I believe it was mentioned in one other place, but it was probably a brain fart or he misspoke. We've heard 30 in too many other places, so it's safe to assume it will be 3 squads maximum, until we see confirmation otherwise.

If the galaxy holds 20 then it should be 20, 40 or 60 surely logically? (100 works too) Otherwise you just have 10 space sitting around, unless a non platoon joins in.

Will there be any way to group up platoons easily or remain in contact with other platoon leaders? So if people did want to work together they could? Then the numbers would matter less anyway. 100 people though sounds excellent if that is the case :) that way there is plenty of room for people to work together more easily.

With all the different statements flying around and everything being in flux, it's difficult to tell what is what. :p

Anyway, seeing as this is in the latest official video, it hopefully also means that it's the most accurate and up-to-date information on the subject. At least until something new pops up suggesting otherwise.
