As cool as it would be for new people to try the game pre-PS2, last time a trial was on there were many many characters made for the purposes of hacking.

Unfortunately, probably mostly due to age, the game does not have the necessary backend systems in place to keep the hackers out. Previously the only way to get them banned was to create a petition and for that to then be reviewed by a CSR. This of course took some time and it was easy enough for someone to come right back on a new account.

Thanks for the civil response.

i think that playing ps1 in its current state is not the best way to promote ps2

as awesome as it was in the day ( and still is now if you know what you are doing) , it is a very clunky and cumbersome game that is hard to get into.
so ps1 wouldnt be the best promotional tool for ps2 imho.

I assumed the game had been maintained to some degree. As a 10 year DAOC vet I thought PS1 was in a similar state to DAOC. Guess I'll just have to focus else where for a bit longer.

dont get me wrong, its still great fun to play today, you just have to be able to look past the clunky controls and dated graphics.
lots of people seem unable to do this, so thats why i think it wouldnt be so good for promoting.

but if you can look past it, then getting a 30 day sub could still be great fun.

Didn't intend to be uncivil; I misread and was thinking the thread referred to the 30 day reactivation we just got (that EVERYONE is talking about). 30 days FTP would be awesome but yeah, hacking would be rampant, I think. That's a sour taste we don't want in the mouth of new players.
