View Full Version : PS1 Free Time - Are Planetside Reserves Vets ?

As an occasionnal player of Planetside 1, the Planetside Reserves account fitted perfectly with my play time. So I've been playing PS1 for many years now, until SOE decided to stop the Planetside Reserves accounts this year.

Now as I never paid anything for PS1, do you think I'll be considered as a Veteran ? Will I get the PS1 Free Time for the 1st July event ?

In my subscritpion section, it says "subscription expired/ is closed". And when I click on Details on the right, I have activated functions.

I also already contacted SOE support weeks ago in order to know if I was considered as a Vet for the Beta Key giveaway and they told me that having PS1 registered on my account "afforded [my] priority access when [they] do start giving out access."

Now I hope it'll also work for the PS1 Free Time.

Not sure but.
To clarify, PS1 is not going free. Players who had an active (paying) account are being granted 30 days free in support of this weekends PlanetSide Day.

It seems to be the case... I still don't receive it whereas some friends who paid for it just got the Free Time.

Don't you mean 2007? :p Since the reserves started in 2006, and it ran for a year.

About your question. I dont know. I remember RadarX telling a few weeks ago that they aren't sure if reservers people get into the beta. So they don't know if they are counted as vets.

Yea the reserves accounts could be made between 2006 and 2007, but since few months of this year (2012), their free subrscription has been stopped.

I noticed it all by myself by the way.

the grant should be done processing at 11:59pm pst tonight, it's only valid for people who had a paid account, no reserves.

And then says paid only.

Looks like reserves are SOL (although some are reporting their reserves accounts activated, so no idea wtf is going on).

You guys are an extremely passionate community. We don't want to make a promise we aren't able to keep because a) we don't think it's the right way to treat your community and b) because I'm scared of what some of you might do.

I really hope I can hold these guys to their word. Or at least release an update or something telling us they are running into some issues I have not seen hide nor hair of anything like that yet.

Have you guys?

If you paid a sub for PS at some point and have not gotten your free time submit a SOE Support ticket asap they will work it out.

I submited a Support ticket, but never paid anything cause I only have a reserve account.

But because a lot of reserves got the free time, I just don't know why can't I get it !

Reserves accounts (I.e. free accounts) are not eligible. We did not want legions of hackers getting in to ruin the vets fun. It's also worth noting that if you do get banned for hacking its an account wide ban to all games, including ps2, so no beta access.

Sounds like every Reserves players are considered like hackers. That's sad, because I spent some really good time on this game with friends only with a reserves account and without being a hacker. I never wanted anything bad for PS1, on the contrary, but as I've been a PS1 player it looks quite unfair that I receive these kind of replies.

I just felt right to bring every old players from PS1 to the last big day before the start of PS2. Especially because it went very well with the upcoming F2P model of PS2.

We absolutely do not consider every reserve account to be hackers. However, hacking was extremely common when the reserve accounts were activated because they had no "skin in the game", as they say. Accounts that are paid, i.e. bought a box, paid a sub, are way less likely to be hacking (although some do, don't get me wrong) than ones that never paid a cent and could create new accounts for free once banned. I'm sorry that you can't join in on the events, although if you really want to, you could always purchase PlanetSide (I believe it's 15 or 20 dollars) and you'll get 30 days free time with that to play again for the 7/1 event. http://www.soe.com/getthegame/

Yea I've been thinking about that option, the problem is that I'm not sure I'll be able to play a lot this month and I just wanted to meet everyone on July the 1st or a couple of days more to talk about the awesome upcoming opus of Planetside with vets and devs ! And also to have some fun :)

So this Free Time fitted prefectly with my expectations.

Anyway, I'll meet you later on the PS2 beta then ! Thanks for your replies Matt !

So on one hand you are saying free accounts support hacking far too much for there to be any fun, yet you are making a free to play game. This is not a very good statement.

On one hand there is PS1, which wasn't equipped to handle the hackers, and on the oher is PS2, which is being made after SOE has learned all of the painful lessons that hackers had to teach. Your concern is not without substance though, hacking could still be a big problem in PS2, the difference is that SOE is now prepared (or so they say) to deal with them where they werent able to before.

I have a question.

I bought PS in 2005 boxed and used my 30 day trial using a throwaway visa/amex or something. Also made a reserves account in 06. Sadly, my parents at the time did not allow me to get a sub because of some reason I don't remember. They probably thought SOE would steal their cc info or something. I had the same problem playing SWG also.

Am I still considered a veteran even if I never paid for a month of the sub but did pay for the game itself?

Maybe someone can clear this up for me:

I bought PS1 back in 2004, when I was like 15. I liked it, but I didn't have a credit card of my own and my computer really couldn't run it. I honestly can't remember if I bought a month's subscription or not.

Now, 8 years later (and about 2 weeks ago), Planetside 2 is shown at E3, and I'm pumped because I finally have a computer than can play it. Then I hear that vets get early beta access. I bring up my SOE page, and it says this:

http://i.imgur.com/63lDp.png
(Link if picture is too small) (http://i.imgur.com/63lDp.png)

So I go "Sweet, I actually have game time left!" And start playing. I've been playing for the past 2 weeks, and it's fun playing the orignal while waiting for the sequel.

However, then I hear that this 45-day pass I got was some kinda apology for a hacking incident, and now I'm hearing about this 'Reserves' program, which I know nothing about.

The long-and-short of my question is this: Do I qualify as a 'veteran', in terms of beta access? Or was I part of this 'reserves' thing? Can anyone help clarify this?

I've got a beta key as well that I was going to save for a friend, so I'm not worried about if I'm going to get into beta or not. It would just be nice to be in the first waves, is all...

I would be considered a vet, and I will get access but I just don't like how Higby worded it. Should just say that since /some/ reserves never made the commitment to PS1 as the Vets did beyond the year they don't get access. But they should feel welcome to grab beta keys elsewhere (Such as the magazine or the twitter/stream givaways). Because FtP players are going be value members of the community. Not just a broad FtP reservists were hackers thus we don't like them BUT we are going try to get you to play PS2 anyways.

Just checked, Planetside 1 is still 19€ (24$). It should have received some kind of discount in preparation for PS2. I'm sure the game is awesome and all, but you'll have to admit 24$ is too much for a 2003 game.

Eh it's all right, if we were good Reservists and didn't hack to begin with, and we didn't bother trying to play PlanetSide after the reserves were done, we still got that 45 day trial that was offered before. Not sure if it was suppose to be like that after the whole hacking fiasco though.

Somehow i doubt its hard to make a program that changes your hardware serial numbers ;)

IP ban is never going to happen. Account-wide ban is nice when people don't just play one SOE game and stand to loose their other games too.

I'm not so optimistic as others about their ability to stop hackers in PS2. I've heard it all before, all the promises that they are ready to take on hackers and in the end the games were flooded with them. F2P = F2H and I consider that the n.1 threat to PS2.

As for reserves saying how they would've liked free 30 days, if you were really into PS you would have subscribed back then :p

They already have the SOE authenticator, how about making a server that only allows authenticated accounts? And then refuse to sell a new authenticator if the previous one was associated with a banned acount.

As I said in my first post, I wasnt really into PS. I got no clan. I just had some fun to play from time to time.

Generally, I never subscrived for mmo (except for wow for a short time but it's because I dont think I had any friends who didnt play this game). But when you subscribed you usually need to play the game a lot while you can to get the benefit. And I dont like this idea, it not fits with my way of playing.
Im more the kind of player who needs several games at the same time, not only one.

And if I buy a game once, I should be able to play it forever.

And here I see potential problems for PS2, I hope your anti-hacking strategy is better than APB's strategy, cause it was FULL of hackers, and I say that as someone who is really not too paranoid about stuff like that. I wish you good luck with that, for it is going to be a looong and tedious fight and I hope you guys are winning :)

The problem with that is that'll force your friends to authenticate as well, even if they dont want too, or they cant play with you on your server. You can also, usually, download the authenticator on a mobile for free. And you can do this from your pc and put it on your mobile (i think) without it needing to know your mobile number (Ithink). But its a nice idea.

Perhaps it's better to give rewards for doing such things rather than penalize those who don't. For instance give free station cash bonus if you get an authenticator, or if you associate a creditcard or mobile phone with your account. Then when those people do end up getting caught, KA-BAN!

Only a few days would have been enough. At least to be in game during the event and to be able to talk with the devs and the players about an upcoming game called Planetside 2. Because I think I'll be into this one !
